Perhaps a little much gloss over the legs and the dome above the head. If you could make the texture of those parts be as dull as the flat sheets of metal of the body then it would be better.

That's what happens when you make a game to fulfill your heart's content. With quality and fun in mind instead of just money.
Sadly most studios today have forgotten that with quality and fun money always come for sure, but instead they aim for the quick buck now.
Ship energy and abilities make more sense like this in the traditional sense of the word sense :P hehehe
Abilities activated by a single click that rely upon the amount of power at hand are classic and proven to work. May I recommend something perhaps in between what you have thought before?
Besides the one time click abilities (like shoot faster for x amount of seconds) you can implement toggle-able stances, which would be "permanent" abilities that would change the balance of a unit, ie. 20% more shields but 30% less speed. Down the road the research tree could modify said abilities and even if you like there could be mutually exclusive ones so you either research a better mechanism of diverting power from engines to energy weapons or shields but not both.
Dunno, there could be many options that should be relatively simple to program, but hard to balance.
May I say this is bonerific? Is that a word? This is like the pic of the month or the year or something. It has the UI, the backgrounds, the textures, the weapons... had it be some fighters and a carrier around it would have summed up pretty much all the lately work.

I completely understand and in fact that makes me want to support the game even more in the hopes it eventually grow large enough. In fact is better to do it that way, you need to learn to walk before running.
Regardless of the final product be sure, I will play it anyway, just like I wrote, I do like Homeworld a lot (used to play it like a mad man). Be sure, I'm not put off or disappointed! I'm 100% sure this game will be gold!

Excellent! The details, specially the little ones are what bring life and character to a game. Those are the things that let you immerse into it's lore and do tell great things about the makers of the game.
Will you include a single player campaign?
Is there a tutorial or something on how to make a portable installation?
And how to make it run in windowed mode?

Every time I read Riptide I can't stop thinking on both the song and the dead island game. When watching the video of the song for the first time I keep waiting for a zombie to kill the girl or something.... but I digress.
