Well to be honest the game is about 40% done now, so it's about 20~25 years left now.

About the possibilities, I think you have a sensible approach, once the core is done you can move onto bigger things. Using a tablet as a command console of a capital ship sure sounds like a neat idea, I can see people putting them on the couch arm, pressing the buttons and shouting commands in the imaginary bridge of a living room.

Or using Oculus Rift(that's the name) to see from a fighter cockpit perspective.

Definitively you will break the mold. Even more so if you actually manage to squeeze a good grand campaign map in there.

I tend to think games this days do not innovate and actually are having less and less options for you, despite technology keep going forward and in theory that should allow games to become bigger and complex without being overwhelming. Instead we see a constant thread of streamlining everything, and making everything MMO with a focus in instant gratification aimed to the wide population of kids (and not so kids) with attention deficit.. look a butterfly! what was I saying.

Oh yeah, a lot of games today focus on quick, easy, cheap thrills that get old fast and thus discarded. Hence most companies put only so much effort into them, but then it becomes a self perpetual spiral downwards to mediocrity.

I truly believe that options, in the case of tactical and/or strategy games are key to achieve a maximum potential. Modern strategy games tend to put a lot of attention to graphics and mp (looking at you TW)and less and less attention to you know, tactics and strategy, without forgetting about the little details that give a game it's soul.

I could go on ranting for hours but I'm sure that would be certainly boring for all. So I'll cut it here by saying this game is shaping up really great and I'm looking forward to play it, no matter how much time is needed.

Yup, look at Dwarf Fortress, Toady has a dev plan of around 40 years or more, and people is waiting patiently, btw he just released a new version for those that didn't know.

Haven't you thought about making things even more interesting like having bowmen and crossbow men as separated units differentiated by resources needed, range, rate of fire and attack?

Or in the case of the Japanase have ashigaru and samurai units apart? (i.e. cheap food and wood yari ashigaru vs expensive food/wood and gold yari samurai)
