Should never need root to run Desura. Sounds like you are trying to run it from a folder with out write permissions for a normal user

we used to use gecko but its a pain to embed. Chrome is the cleanest by far

The warning comes from chrome that un did a fix that uses the correct version.

As soon as chrome supports webm we will be switching across

The closed beta allows us (the developers) to fix issues with a small amount of people before releasing to the wider public which is easier to manage. Getting close to a full release soon

Version control is a software program that you check your code and art assets into and it keeps track of changes and by who. Very useful for game teams as it keeps a track of who does what and when and also handles merging of changes and backups.
