Games are pretty fun. I'm more into puzzles that challenge my MIND, not my click reflexes. BUT, there are quite a few shooting games I enjoy. I'll play any Valve game. World of Goo is ok. I'm also into games that let me create what I want like Spore and LineRider and a game I can't remember that I don't have anymore that I REALLY liked. And I hope that I can remember it so I can get it again. I am currently trying to start developement on some games/mods I want to make.

Blog RSS Feed Report abuse A Few Reviews

0 comments by Colossal on Nov 20th, 2009 digg this super bookmark

Hey guys. Just thought I would keep my promise and do those reviews. Getting late and I just remembered. Anyway, in this post, I'll be reviewing:  Strider Mountain, Poke646, Left 4 Dead 2, and I'll talk about a few things I've been thinking about.

Strider Mountain: Well. I must say. I was looking forward to the mod. I was expecting a hella long, fun and puzzle-filled, actiony and violent and hard first person shooter. And that's what I got. Despite all the weapons being FPSBanana skins and even the climbing axe from Kreedz Climbing, the combat was exiting and full of enemies, constantly keeping you jumping for new cover and swirling around quickly to release hell onto snowy Combine Soldiers. And me being me, and having created the foliage spawn for Gmod, I was impressed by the foliage of this game. It felt immersive and inviting but at the same time scary and dark. And with the new location of the Combine, it gives a new look on the Half-Life universe. But I was angered to see that it was so stereotypically video-gamey and that you played as Gordon Freeman. Not only that, but voice acting and face posing were bland and boring and the cut-scenes should have been left out. But I give Strider Mountain a review of 8/10 for the above reasons.

Poke646: I heard so much about this Half-Life mod before I got to play it. "dood its osum and its so cool but the story dosnt fit with hl2 but its still so cool!!!"
Well that 13-year-old was right. The story is a paradox with Half-Life 2, but yet the game-play and story just feel... Right. There was an explanation for most of the things in the mod, and the weapons were beastin' (I loved the shotgun). And just recently I saw the Poke646: Vendetta mod after asking if there was a sequel. And I KNOW I'm gonna play that. If you own the first Half-Life game, get this. Seriously. This was added to my "All-Time Mod Favorites List" that I have saved on my computer and I refuse to uninstall it. But I give Poke646 a 9/10 for the above reasons.

Left 4 Dead 2: Being the VALVe junkie that I am, I couldn't wait for Left 4 Dead 2. I loved the original and when I saw the trailer for the second, that was the ONLY time I have ever squealed and jumped around and screamed into my pillow with excitement. And that's also the only time I'll ever do that. While I will object to a third, I won't object to ANY DLC for this game because I could have fun in L4D2 with just being inside a box that endlessly floods with zombies. I LOVE IT. But, there are a few downsides. All melee weapons (except chainsaw) are basically reskins of each other, just with different effects and sounds. That makes me disappoint. I was also disappointed by a few small things, such as the lack of leg models, a few character lines, and the whole "play with someone who preordered and you get their shit" thing. I preordered. That baseball bat is MINE, and some faggy 12-year-old shouldn't get MY bat because I preordered and HE didn't. I don't know why, but that aggravates me. But I give Left 4 Dead 2 a 9.5/10 for the above reason.

And speaking of L4D2 and DLC, this "No Salvation" DLC thing looks so awesome. Not only is it official DLC that's coming out soon after the game, but the fact that it has new survivors and new weapons and new maps make me want it more. And VALVe being VALVe, they were able to make the site for the DLC look like a simple rock band site. But if you read it from the view of a suspecter, you realize there's  so many hints that this is DLC. Anyway, I can't wait to kill zombies as a survivor named "Ox." Seriously, that's bad-ass.

Aaaaand that concludes this update. Thanks for reading.

Report abuse Obsidian Conflict, Zombie Master, CSCZ, and More!

Hello readers who probably don't even read this and won't comment. This is my fourth blog and this one should be loooong (with four O's). I mentioned I would review Obsidian Conflict, Zombie Master, and Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. Of course, I'll throw in another unmentioned review like always. So, I'll shut up and get reviewing.

Obsidian Conflict may- at first- just seem like another annoying Half-Life 2 Co-op mod. And if you think that, then you are wro-ong. With 2 sylabols. OC is, in my opinion, the best co-op mod as of yet. When you get past the small annoyances, you feel like you're in a whole new world of co-op. OC brings in something other co-op mods don't have: weapons and models from other Valve games like Counter-Strike: Source and Day of Defeat: Source into the world of Half-Life. It also offers a huge arsenal of new weapons made by the mod developers. And with a new system, you can slightly customize your character (like changing your flashlight color). Over all, this is definately one of my favorite mods so far. 10/10 from me.

Zombie Master isn't just another zombie mod. ZM is an awesome zombie mod that was Steamwork'd because of it being just so awesome. It features many new types of zombies that make the game seem more than just a never ending swarm of repetitive zombies. And unlike some other zombie mods, it's not just players against spammed-up HL2 zombies. It's a group of players (in FPS mode) trying to survive zombie forms of themselves that are sent countlessly by other players called zombie masters (in RTS mode). And it features many new weapons, the only one from HL2 being a crowbar which is updated to have delayed swings. There is a downside to ZM, however. When you first get the game, it comes with no maps, forcing you to have to join servers to get content. I give ZM an 8/10.

Condion Zero is basically a Valve-Gearbox-Ritual collaboration game. It comes with 2 games, Condition Zero and Condition Zero: Deleted Scenes. I'll go ahead and say it: Condition Zero is just CS with bots. Deleted Scenes (by Ritual) is a full-blown campaign with a new story for each mission. I personally can only play Deleted Scenes because normal Condition Zero makes me feel like a loser trying to get better at an easy game. So what I'm saying is, only half of CSCZ is fun, and that's the half by Ritual. I would personally thank everyone at Ritual for making CZDS, but sadly, they were bought out by some stupid, crappy, casual game company (MumboJumbo). So since only half CSCZ is fun, I can only give half of a good rating. 4.5/10 from TEH COLOL.

Lastly, today I bought all 3 Penumbra games and started on Overture. I'll create a whole review for each one when I finish. But, now, I'm tired. Colossal is going... Going... Going... Going... Going... Going...... You know what? I'll just go now.

Report abuse The Postal Curse

0 comments by Colossal on Jul 11th, 2009 digg this super bookmark

Hello, readers, and welcome to another whiney blog full of... bloggyness. I'll just start and say that the "new" Left 4 Dead theme for Steam is really cool. Of course, it'll take some getting used to from the default theme, but it is pretty well made. I completely recommend this to anyone tired of the way Steam looks.

On another note, I said I was going to talk about Postal 3. Well there's so little publicity about it that all I can say is: Postal III is a new incredibly violent Source engine game developed by Running With Scissors and is scheduled for release in North America (I don't know if it'll be on Steam) in maybe late 2009 and you can watch the trailer HERE.

Ok, so now I know I can do run-on sentences, let's change topic. Today I played the mod "CURSE" for Half-Life 2 and beat it perfectly. It's a pretty unique mod. It's got an amazing atmosphere and the mapping and modeling is perfect. Although the gameplay got repetitive, I found that I couldn't stop playing until the credits rolled. The game itself is linear, but it has optional sidetracks that can earn you a bonus in visual and gameplay (such as bosses). But the only thing that angered me about this mod was the shortness, like many great mods are. Luckily, though, they'll be continuing the story in episodic format. I personally rate the mod 9/10 for the shortness, but the incredibility of it.

That's all for now, don't want carpal tunnel from typing so much. Next blog I'll talk about Obsidian Conflict, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero (kind of late, eh?), and Zombie Master.

Report abuse Neotokyo!

Last night I installed Neotokyo the second it came out. Unfortunately, it was late and I was tired, so I went to bed. I woke up this morning and went straight to my computer to play it. At first I was angry because it was hard finding a server that wasn't full. But I found a server eventually and saw what Neotokyo was like. It was awesome. I was constantly moving as a recon class (my favorite class) and got quite a few kills. Unfortunately, I never got to even come close to grabbing the ghost, except once. I got the highest rank and felt like building, so I switched to GMod. When I relaunched Neotokyo, I joined a server, chose recon class, and was about to pick my favorite weapon when I noticed that I had lost my lieutenant rank. What the fuck!? Really? I worked so hard for so long to get that rank, just to find out it doesn't save?! I was angry. I mean, I guess it keeps the game balanced, but still. And I was also angered by the lack of a desktop icon. But oh well. That's the end of my review. I give Neotokyo an 8/10.

Next time on the Colossal Blog: I talk about Postal 3

Hey, random people looking at a random member, page. I'm Lemonosity. Or Lemon. Or Colo. OR even Colo-Cola. Or ZachNorik. WHATEVER, I'm me, you're you. I'll get straight to the point, I joined ModDB because I have a small dream of someday MAKING my own mod/s. I've had a few ideas, but the thing is, I can't map or model for shit, so I'm stuck with dreams. If you would even CARE to hear any of the ideas, just ask about it, and I'll tell you. At the moment I'm a beta tester for the in-coma Portal mod called Aperture Deja Vu. I've asked a few other mod-makers about beta testing (just a FEW) and SkinnyCap was the first and only to accept it, so I'm grateful for that. Also, his mappack Portal: Underground story has a lot of similar ideas and chambers as Deja Vu, so if you want a BIG demo of Deja Vu, go download that. That mappack was also mentioned on Podcast 17 and got an ok-good review which is awesome. Well, that's all I feel I can say FOR NOW, so if you care about what I say, just come back in 1-2 weeks to see if I actually make another one of these. Out.
