Super Office Stress

Game review

After unsuccessfully looking for any reviews on this game, I decided to just go ahead and buy it. At 2.99 I wasn't expecting much, and the insane premise looked interesting enough to warrant a impulse purchase.....my mistake.

The only way I can think to review Super Office Stress is to make a list of what is wrong with it.

1. Minimal interactivity with environment and enemies.

2. Combat is simply holding down the attack button while running straight at your foes and waiting for them to die.

3. There is so little animation that I wasn't even sure that I was being attacked until I saw my health bar going down.

4. The only aspect of the game that actually allows a choice is deciding which items to place on your body.

5. Graphics......I knew they would be bad, but they are unforgivably glitchy. You can see enemies through the walls, not as an occasional glitch, but all of the time. It's like the developer didn't even care.

This game makes the first 3d Wolfenstein look like a next-gen masterpeice. I really want to like it, and I sincerely hope that the developer patches it into a reasonably playable game, but in its current iteration, I simply don't see why it exists.

Ensign-1

Game review

Most indie games focus on simple concepts that can be fully exploited with a small budget. This has led to some great classics, but I feel the possiblity of truly grand-scale indies has been left untapped. Ensign 1 is the sort of game that I wish had 10 million dollars behind it.

I knew from the summary that the game allows an FPS portion when your ship is docked, but I didn't realize that you can actually move around your own ship while it is traversing through space. This feature is already implemented, and the potential here is pretty astounding. Instead of a simple HUD, you have a real ship, with real physical space, and the ability to hold multiple passengers that can move freely to different ship operations.

The game is currently in a very unfinished state, but if this sort of concept even remotely interests you, there's no reason not to throw in your support now. This is truly a concept that needs to be explored, and the current price is an absolute steal.

(Since this is only an alpha version, I'm giving a 10 for potential, and the fact that the current build is easily worth the $5)

Trine 2

Game review

The original Trine was like an extremely pretty tech demo with some great, but under utilized ideas. It was fun to play around with, but combat was ridiculously easy, and almost every puzzle could be "broken" by flying accross the level using the Wizard's levitation spell.

Trine 2 is basically Trine 1 with better graphics, less fluff, and superior level design. The puzzles are much more rewarding than in its predecessor (levitation bug is fixed), but combat is still a total joke (still quite fun though, just no challenge). Frozenbyte has thankfully gotten rid of the trinket system, and replaced it with collectible poems and paintings. Aside from that, the game largely plays the same as the first.

I can't help but feel that Trine 2 is a bit of a missed opportunity, being slightly shorter than the first, and not really fixing the easy combat. Despite these criticisms, I still give it a 9/10 because there simply isn't any other game that can quite match the Trine experience, flaws and all. Put simply, if you think you will like Trine 2, you probably will, and the $15 is a low barrier for a great gameplay experience.

(Also there is an expansion coming soon, so there is a good incentive to start playing the original campaign now)
