As much as I appreciate this offer - jump scares are more often then not just cheap and boring. So have fun with it. I appreciate build-up and atmosphere, not some loud stinger that hurts my ears.

I did manage to find it within one of the four in the basement itself after reloading my save file to before I entered the basement. Thankfully I was able to continue.

I am unfortunately rather unable to continue this otherwise promising mod. Within the basement of Samuel's manor you are supposed to find his shard within one of the four chests. I double-checked them all, but without results. Even killed myself on purpose. But there is no shard anywhere. Thus I am sadly not able to continue playing.

I love to imagine the following scenario here...

"Very well, Vort - it's just your and my remaining points of HP. Faster electricity or trigger finger? Let's find out..."

I still remember my first encounter with these critters. It actually freaked me out a little back then... You walk into this new section of the facility and hear equally new noises nobody ever heard before. Shadows passing by in the distance - and suddenly they are all right in your face. Shocked me good.

Sadly I never in all my life had the chance to learn a thing or two about Linux - mainly because I never had to use it. But do not worry, I don't hold a grudge against you now >)

By the way... I recently tweeted you about the fact that I am Let's Playing One Late Night on my humble YouTube channel.

Many big YouTubers have already done it, no doubt... But I am generally not a fan of their screaming and OMG WHAT IS THAT RGHRGHR RUSHING, DERP!!!! ... Jesus christ.

Instead I focus on the slow-paced approach (something that is certainly not for everybody). But I would feel honored if you could give it a watch one of these days.

One year later... I still remember every single second of my first CoF experience that I shared with friends through a Let's Play. Now it is back, improved and more sinister then ever before.

No more getting enemies stuck on corners and stairways... It's like a new nightmare. As well as time to once again confront it - until the very end.

Cry of Fear... One of the most amazing horror modifications / games of all time. We are coming, Simon...

Hats off as always, Team Psykskallar.

I truly enjoyed my time with OLN. Sadly I couldn't figure out the story cause I know nothing from nothing about Linux. Stuff that's common knowledge such as typing cd home/me is something I would have never dreamed of.

It's incredible to see that CoF is still getting better and better so long after it's initial release. Saying "awesome job, guys" hardly feels like it's enough anymore. But since it's all I got... Awesome job as always ~

Beautiful. It is very lovely to see that one year after release the process of updating still continues to deliver new and exciting elements, both awesome yet subtle in nature.

I didn't expect anything less. Cheers Sir Minuit, ruMpel and everyone else on the team ~

The first thought that came to mind when I saw this was "Among the Sleep", another toddler-starring horror gamr currently in the making. It definitely looks like an interesting concept. I would enjoy to eventually LP it in a professional way (aka constructive feedback instead of immature screaming). Looking forward to checking it out ~

I've seen plenty of them rookies refuse to venture further into the zone out of fear - may god have mercy on them for coming here in the first place. Stuff like the Pecker though... It keeps you away, scares you off and wrecks your brain due to it's unsettling nature. No wild beast, no visible vortex of death - only that strange sound, ever "ticking" away like a never-ending swarm of needles stinging into one's soul.

It is not a fairy tale, for I've heard it before, plenty of times. That one night long ago in the middle of nowhere was probably the worst experience. It accompanied me from the moment I entered a building in search of safety and wouldn't let go until the next morning. Watching me through invisible eyes like a ghost. The silence didn't help much either, allowing me to hear it and only it above all else.

But I refused to give in, kept on denying it's existence. So what if there's a legend surrounding it? I couldn't care less. Maybe one day a Stalker will be brave enough to discover it's very source. I however shall continue to ridicule the Pecker.

Because the only alternative would be to allow it to peck away at my perception of reality as well, giving in to the madness... Never daring to leave the house again like so many others.

No, I prefer to stick with my current believes. They are already more then enough to complete my eternal Misery."

"The Woodpecker... One of the countless infamous legends our precious zone has to offer. Some call it a signal of mind-control, frequencies of the damned - I call it a giant pile of nonsense.

You might stamp me a fool or even crazy lunatic for stating something like that. After all, it is certainly no mystery to anyone that the zone is filled to the brim with supernatural junk that often loves to tear you limb from limb. So what gives me the right to ridicule the Pecker? The answer you are looking for is simple: Keeping my sanity together.

The rumors are so massive that one would need the largest shovel in human history to dig a proper hole and bury 'em all inside. Anomalies, Mutants, Artifacts, Monoliths... Last thing we need is some obscure radio signal that won't allow you to sleep at night. It is very easy to just accept it as another danger of this god-forsaken hell. But the more dangers you accept, the more it eats away at the mind.

My finger itches... He told me what I wanted to know. I can let him be or pull through. What right do I have to decide though? Seeing myself a savior only to appear as the bloody executioner? Why care about who I am to him at all? He would only die at the hands of something else anyway, miserable how he is. Am I god and thus fit to judge over his existence? Or am I simply a servant of the devil in disguise to reap more souls for a purpose nobody ultimately understands? Perhaps he deserves a second chance. Even though he would arguably not grant one to me if the situation was reversed... Correct?
So many thoughts, such little time. A long confrontation of good, neutrality and evil of the human sub-conscience that lasts about five seconds. One more second passes... And he is gone. Hits the ground while the sound of the shot still echoes away into the distance. Who am I? And who was he? That's right...
We are all nobodies. And we fight to stay alive, each in their own unique way. Everyone has to do what they must - and some do not return. He did what he had to do and run out of luck today.
One day mine could disappear as well. But until then... It shall continue. This Life. This Curse. This eternal Misery."

TheShadowCookie - - 364 comments @ Please dont' kill me!

"I looked him deep in the eyes...
It was a face like hundreds of other lost souls I had already come across during my so called journey. A scenario like hundreds of others which would occur every now and again. Life within the zone teaches you how and when to kill the hard way. There is no mercy for nobody except yourself - the mercy of knowing that those you kill won't suddenly stab you in the back. And if you don't kill them, you instead abuse them to gain information - only to kill them still in the end.
Yet every now and again I question myself... Putting a bullet right between their eyes in a mere matter of seconds like the piercing strike of thunder through the nightsky while they are sitting helplessly on the ground slowly bleeding to death - is it an act of mercy at all? Selfish desires? Or perhaps just another sign of how one is slowly drifting away from the right path and deeper into the darkness?
However... Such illusions of free choice only serve to blind the mind, distract it from the greater picture. Within the zone, such concepts as sparing lifes and thinking of the future, the world as a whole, no longer have any importance. Let one live today, kill the next tomorow. Like a diabolical raffle designed by the devil himself. It can hit you every single day. Yes truly... The zone is cruel that way, toys with your mind until there is nothing left - until the trap finally snaps out of nowhere, a life and long act of survival wasted.

You may be doing something very wrong, for CoF's difficulty only gets unfair at times if you play on hard mode. I Let's Played it on hard, had trouble now and then, but made it through with correct thinking and strategies. On easy, everything felt so simplistic like there was no challenge at all.

How it all began... The birth of a piece of art, a milestone of horror and sad story-telling, Cry of Fear...

A very lovely introductionary episode to the Making of. Being a CoF nerd by now, I find it to be very interesting how it all came to be. From a simplistic gold source joking-about to a professional "neo" gold source miracle.

Looking forward to the next episode, bravo Team Psyskallar.

Saying that CoF is worse because it needs games is just silly. You see, mods need all kinds of stuff form full games. They don't do it because they force you to, but because it is necessary. Besides, games like Hl2 and all are very old by now and don't cost a lot. Not a big sacrifice to buy them Sir.
