It's...okay. A Mario clone with shoddy controls, grating music, and occasionally frustrating controls (more than a couple times I accidentally walked off of the 2d platform and fell to my death). However, it is not BAD. It is okay. Average. An okay platformer on a shooter's engine and controls.
This mod is pretty good. The new gameplay features are well done, the soundtrack and weapon sounds are both brutal and make the entire game feel more intense.
However, the mustaches bother me. Max looks more like a traditional film noire cop, to be sure. But this mod throws most film noire out the window and makes the game feel more hardcore and brutal. I couldn't see Vlad or Max with mustaches. Facial hair is normally an extension of the individual's personality. Vlad would most like have a clean shaven or small mustache in this game, as he is a suave and sleek character. Max, on the other hand, would probably sport either a clean shaven or a beard. The mustaches just do not fit their characters.
...Did I just rant about facial hair?
And for the record, I am not removing points for the facial hair. It rubs me the wrong way, but I wouldn't remove points for something you see ten times at the most. This is just the score I find reasonable.
Your opinion of this mod will depend heavily on whether or not you are an enthusiast of these movies. Almost all sounds are ripped straight from the movies, the skins are FANTASTIC, and it truly feels like a game based around one of his movies. However, if you do not like the movies, this mod is NOT for you.
This was a fantastic play. This feels more like sci-fi rather than futuristic compared to the previous installment...if that makes any sense. To explain what I mean, if the previous installment was Deus Ex this would be Star Wars. It still is fantastic to play. It is well voiced, the mapping work is fantastic, and there wasn't a single battle sequence I didn't enjoy.
Almost all models and textures are new. A couple of the signs have some rather amusing text on them, and it pulls off the futuristic tone extremely well. The carnage is constant and always fresh, so download this now! It's only a few button clicks! Do it NOW! I COMMAND THEE!
This is a very entertaining zombie survival mod for Max Payne. The essential gameplay elements are intact, but with a cliche yet well executed twist. However, the zombies have set spawn points and there are some areas that you can stand in to actually make them all stop moving. More maps and more varied and random enemy spawn locations could make this much more engaging.
This mod is FANTASTIC. The voice acting is spot on, the action is great, and the level design is only slightly below that of Mona : The Assassin. It's short, but it's a good length.
The only way it could be done better in terms of length without feeling padded is if it had previous missions and more house levels with the protagonist's lover. This would make us feel more for the protagonist. All we really had to demonstrate their love is her greeting him at the door and having sex with him. For all we know from that scene she could just be a ****** he pays extensively and provides for.
This mod advertises sci-fi gameplay in a noire setting. What it delivers is nothing but skin changes and the base Max Payne. It can be amusing for a time, but other than that this is a waste of your time.
It adds cool sounds. What else is there to say? They don't change the game in any noticeable way, and without being mixed with another mod this is certainly not worth an entire playthrough.
I don't know what to say about this one. It's below average. The turns are far too short. The AI is absolute ****. It is unbelievably difficult or a breeze depending on where they end the turn. Sometimes they all gather in a circle and I can off all of them by the end of my turn. Sometimes I get hit by an explosive at the very ******* beginning.
