Just another guy who loves shooting zombies and making the world a little safer... one headshot at a time. I like thinking about what I'm playing, at least. Each game has something to offer, and something to teach if you just know how to listen. I've played with all sorts, and have given up the rambo way of thinking... sometimes there's just a better way than guns blazing.

Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword

Game review

I was unfortunately disappointed in this game. It is difficult to start, unfulfilling, and discontinuous with the Mount and Blade series. I would not recommend this game for die hard fans of the Mount and Blade series unless they truly are desirous to see what the firearms system is like. I often hear it called "Warband with mods". I can only hope that War of the Roses proves to be better constructed.

Pros: Graphically, the game is still of good quality. The whistles and bells added in the way of options for sieges, caravans, and townfolk interactions are interesting. I still ponder the reasoning behind the bar fights, however. It gets extra points for the Commander multiplayer option, which was new and is somewhat enjoyable. Also, just like any of the Mount and Blade series, it shows how much it sucked to be a peasant in the middle ages... at least a taste thereof.

Cons: The firearms included were indeed black powder in every sense of the word. Loud, obnoxious, and inaccurate until a lot of training is poured into their usage. I find that the troops are very unbalanced, and often find that a lucky bandit is all it takes with a firearm to make battle much less fightable. I feel that the strategic shift in battles are somewhat less than enjoyable. Also, I get really annoyed by the steeper learning curve attached to this game some days. Heaven help the gamer who wants to get a decent weapon or armor, as one must track down the specialist of catagory of choice in order to get it, which can take far too long. Honestly, I'm getting ready to FEED them the thalers rather than pay them.

Overall, I do not recommend this game and feel that one would better spend their time in Mount and Blade Warband. However, if you know someone else who owns the game, it might be worth it to look into the captain mode. In short, if you feel you can live without another multiplayer option, stick with the older stuff. I hope that War of the Roses does a better job.
