UE3 is definitely a nice engine. However, CryEngine 3 is fresh and new. We really wanted to see what it was all about on the development angle as well as play with all of its fancy pants features. It is quite a nice engine. The visuals you achieve in CryEngine 3 do vary differently than Unreal Engine 3 mostly because of how the renderer just reacts to things. I won't choose favorites in public but I can say they are both solid competitors.
