Report RSS I Tried A HTML 5.0 Game Making Tutorial

Posted by on

I was finally able to locate a game making HTML 5.0 tutorial (which you can find HERE). I've been looking for something like this for some time now but wasn't able to locate anything definitively until yesterday. After toying around with it, I have to say... I really think I'm going to like working with it!

If you don't know, HTML 5 is the next upgrade to the HTML language (I'm not sure if that's the write word).

What's so great about that, you ask?

Well, you can use it to create exciting games with it WITHOUT the need of plug ins. With the shunning of Flash by Apple, this is another great way of getting of getting your game across ALL platforms. Of course, some early versions of web browsers aren't compatible with HTML 5, but, meh... eventually most people will have to upgrade their bullshit broswer (preferably to Firefox).

So, the experience I had was clean and fast. The tutorial really does a great job of explaining things in an easy to understand manner. Eventually, I did run into some things that I were beyond my comprehension, but that's probably because I was new to the language. The same thing happened to me with Flash, so I'm not too concerned.

I expect that there are going to be a bunch of new tutorials about creating games with HTML 5 in the coming months. As HTML 5 gets closer and closer to completion, and people witness what it's capable of, there will be a slew of interest in it. If it's anything like the I Phone, the earlier that you can get a start, the better off you will be.

With that said, I don't really expect Flash to disappear any time soon. Sure there is Silverlight and other similar things, but I'm willing to bet that people are comfortable and familiar with Flash and are not just going to drop it. I could be wrong though...

But, what about you guys? Has anybody else tried any HTML 5 game making tutorials? Do you have any thoughts on the future of gaming with HTML 5?
