I'm a student in London studying video game design, development and some history... and some other stuff, on one of those courses that gets slagged off by everyone for being too unfocused... so yea, hate me :'(
If it was weekly video updates I'd be with you, but a few screenshots aren't going to reduce development to a crawl, not even close.
These shots all look amazing.
PHILLIP!!!!!!!!! The Nolan North of mods. On a serious note though it looks awesome. Some nice animation work there.
It's looking nice. Good job.
I respectfully disagree. The maps don't look empty to me, just uncluttered. I think too often source modders in particular fill their maps up with tons of props and you end up constantly being in situations where you walk into a corridor or a room and think "oooO, lots of stuff, I wonder what I have to do here?" and it quickly becomes apparent you just have to walk through it, trying not to clip on all the physics objects as you go.
Minimalism in itself can be a very striking visual element. It's all about the mood you want an area to covay, and what you want the area to be used for, from both a gameplay and story perspective.
Maybe they could add some striking features that can build some more detail, but I'm not entirely convinced on that front on the basis of what this trailer alone shows, and if you mean cluttering them up, that's not necessarily a good idea IMO.
How not finished would you say it was? It looks really good, kind of mount & blade meets Civ meets Stalker, but not massively polished. Is this Alpha footage?
I begrudgingly did it and "637 people like this"?
That video isn't coming out any time soon is it -_-
Of course if you release a video of awesome alpha footage, send it to some big game sites along with some info on the game and it's progress, like RPS, PCG, GiantBomb etc... you might have more people aware of the game and therefore more people willing to like it on Facebook.
Holding back initial gameplay footage from fans when you don't actually have that many fans because nobodies actually seen any gameplay footage yet and only people who follow source mods are likely to know who the hell you are and what the hell this is, seems a little silly.
Feel free to disagree, but imo this is a perfectly legitimate if consistently annoying marketing technique being used at completely the wrong time.
What about Mod support? Also a good single player campaign. Also not being bugged to crap for months on the pc rendering it practically unplayable despite dedicated server support alla Black Ops.
Colour me Cynical -_-
I'd love to do some testing for you. That hallway up the top is really eye catching, nice work.
It's easier to get good, even great artists to create the assets you'll need than it would be for an artist to get great (and they'd need to be great) programmers to put the kinds of AI and world systems that you're talking about into place. So if you really can do what you say you can do the artists will come.
I'll be honest, I have my doubts, what you're talking about is massive, but I'm looking forward to you hopefully proving me wrong.
Very nice work.
This looks awesome, I'd say don't stop but use in moderation. Just keep ones that work really well. The melon is most definitely one of them.
Exciting work, it's looking great and you guy are obviously being very intelligent as far as your design goes.
Looks pretty good, I agree to an extent with sgccode9's comment about the text. I could read it but it wasn't exactly easy on the eye. Only other thing I would say is that custom some sfx would be cool but that's just me being very nit-picky, there's nothing wrong with using the default HL2 sfx.
I am? O.o
Well thanks... btw, I accidentally deleted your friend request, and I have to admit, I can't work out how to send one myself, so if you want to re-send I'll be sure to accept this time.
Looking great as always.
Is it a lady? O.o
The floor texture could be a lot better, as said by Mr. Walrus already, it just doesn't quite fit, and isn't a particularly nice texture to start with.
The curved glass also looks a little weird, it took me a while to work out what it was but I'm guna give you the benefit of the doubt and say it's probably just an optical illusion of sorts that doesn't really come into play when it's in motion.
Other than that it looks fine IMO, nothing stunning but there's a lot of custom content there by the looks of it and it all fits together quite nicely, you've used the space well and it doesn't look too cluttered or too sparse. Nice stuff.
I like the idea but at the same time... I'm not entirely sure it's legal. Have you had any contact with Valve concerning this?
The arsenal looks awesome and I'm liking the way they're looking in game now, great work.
Really interesting. Thanks for posting it :)
Pretty cool* Damn the 5 minutes limit on editing -_-
I don't see how anybody could complain about the release of a tech demo. Although I don't doubt some people would manage to find a reason to do so...
Is he... oh my O.o
Will this be coming to steam?
Why pay for MW2 when you have Insurgency? Seriously people, chill out until the game is... well, actually fking out.
I'm personally not 100% convinced but at the same time think it looks pretty promising and I'll leave it at that.
Awesome, but Friday the 13th? So brave...
Brilliant work there...
"I want kids... so I dont have to find beta testers..."
Then I lol'd harder.
It's looking gorgeous, but what's up with the August the 7th release date? Is that true?
Also you might want to change "scheduled to be released in early 2010"
I was somebody on the fence (never played the original) but after reading this, those reviews, and watching that trailer I'm definitely guna give this a go.
You never know, it might even wean me off Insurgency... although that'd be a tall order.
An enjoyable read and a great sounding concept, looking forward to playing this...
Site hasn't been updated since 2009, this page the same, and the developer hasn't logged on since then either...
That is absolutely incredible work...
I'm sure other people have found fixes, so I hope somebody helps you out. Also good luck on finding a job...
Yea the concept is gorgeous and I actually quite enjoyed playing this. My only major complaint is with the camera which is really choppy and hard to manage with both 360 and mouse & keyboard controls. Three fairly minor complaints were that the camera clipped through objects sometimes which is extremely minor and didn't really bother me, and the final boss confused me, I kept targeting and shooting it's head and it wouldn't die, then I worked out I could shoot the hands so I thought I'd have to blow them off first, shot him 5 times (3 times in one hand, 2 times in another on the same side) and he went down completely, which I found very confusing. Finally re-spawning where you actually died would also be nice, rather than a little way back.
All in all though this looks extremely exiting, lovely maps, runs well, great concept, enjoyable gameplay camera issues aside and a great atmosphere (music was really fitting but not over-riding, just a nice compliment to the gameplay & vistas).
This looks really cool, I'll certainly give the demo a go.
When ever I log on all the servers are either empty, or might as well be empty... are people playing this or am I just missing peak time?
Oh man... that's not some, that's a bloody horde. Looks like it'd be fun though :P
> Sci-fi Comedy/serious toned game
Not sure about that description. I know I'm splitting hairs but that just sounds like a serious game with some (hopefully) humerious moments. Comedy/serioys toned just doesn't really make sense.
Other than that it looks pretty interesting.
True, as long as it doesn't break gameplay in any way, if it looks better it is better. Obviously for a game like insurgency maybe not because realism is kind of part of the aim, but Orion is a sci-fi multiplayer shooter with dinosaurs... why focus on realism?
Lovely texture work on the model...
Lol, good answer...
Beautiful... so exited about this title. Hope you get your finished trailer done soonish so I can plug you guys in the GamesRadar forums.
I agree about Sneaky's comment on the skybox, although it does look pretty good already, and thats really all I have to say. Very interested to see where this project ends up, certainly looks and sounds promising.
That does look more than just a little neat. However your guna have to build one hell of a game before I replace Gordon Freeman with it.
Good job though.
That is a really nice tree...
This will be the best Halo game on pc since CE.
The first chapter was cool, found the final map a bit fiddly and frustrating simply because I kept falling off or dropping the eye. Chapter two was cool too, the don't touch the floor map was well designed, although it took me a while to work out you had to go downstairs, the fire map and final map took me about a minute each though, compared to the 10 minutes that the other two took. The fire map was a good idea, it was just way, way too easy, then the final map wasn't challenging at all, although it did look gorgeous I must say.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with chapter 3.
Looks nice. Very moody... is it guna get a box release then?
Loving those screens, so exited about this game...
It's looking great.
Why are we hailing Gabe Newell? O.o
Looking good, I'd say the areas look a little sparse, I mean what you have is fine, but they could do with some stuff there, like a couple of combine computers (I presume it's meant to be a combine place) in the first map and for the second IDK, but something. Still, like I said it's certainly looking promising...
To be fair if you don't ask you don't get... not that I'm saying you should have given it to him, in fact I'll go on record and say it was a good (if entirely obvious) decision not to.
"So you just said what you just said for nothing."
No I said it because I personally found it too hard to play, mostly cuz I didn't get what I needed to do, apparently it's because I'm an incompetent idiot but that's fine, still makes my complaint valid since incompetent idiots play games too and therefore are part of the demographic.
Awesome, looking forward to playing it...
If you guys manage to get it near that it'll be stunning.
Don't rub it in -_-
Sounds good, enjoyed both Nestlings and Post Script so definitely tracking this.
Also yay for voice acting ^_^
Nice model but fking awesome texture work, well done.
I loved it up until that point then though, so I can't wait for a fix... *puppy eyes*
Obviously just to confirm I know a fix is something that can't just pulled out of thin air, but please don't let it be an "if" it gets fixed, but a when... other than that take your time... I can wait *sits in the corner and twiddles thumbs*
Wow, nice work.
I have the same problem, I checked some youtube vids and no it isn't.
I have a massive problem with mr. whirly, can't get out at all... E does nothing.
Keeps crashing in the hospital level for me in the room that is originally full of electricity but you go back to and can enter after he burns his hands, doesn't seem to be in the same place every time though.
i rAGE QUIT THIS MOD. FKING JUMPING PUZZLE >.<!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is this still coming?
That ok, we understand, and 12 votes isn't much so I'm sure it'll be bumped up as more people play it and especially when it's available for DL here 2.
I didn't really get it, got stuck on a the first map for half an hour, didn't get what I was meant to do, stopped playing.
"Erika is going to be the most sophisticated and aspiring main character in all the history of main female video game characters."
Lol, steady on there son. April Ryan from The Longest Journey, Zoey From Dreamfall, Alyx from HL2? Yea thats all I got -_-
To be honest if sophistication is a word that can be attributed to her then she'll be one of the most sophisticated and aspiring main characters in all the history of main video game characters full stop.
Good luck with this, concept is awesome and all the screens and vids are very promising. I'll be sure to plug you guys when ever the oppertunity arrises...
Absolutely loved this up until a point, and then the difficulty just ramped up too far. Managed to struggle through to the boss on normal, but had to change to easy to get past it. I think you just threw a bit too much in, and the quirky mind-f**k I was in love with at the beggining was mostly gone by the middle, only to be left with sets of rooms with increasingly insane numbers of enemies inhabiting them, not that there weren't any good parts past the half way point, it just wasn't all good like it had been up until then.
Still, overall I found it a good experiance.
