Being new to this site...I thought I would place myself...I am think a few of you know me... fatrap? Isn't this one of your places?
Anyway... Let's place me at GSC Forums...at the Bar, formerly Siro's...now the Zoners and Loners. Did I mention that there are now more than 2.5 million hits on the Bar Thread?
Now, conversation suggestions...I think we might get to talking about the novel I have been writing...set present day in the 4,700 square kilometers of Exclusion Zone around the Chernobyl Power Plant and Pripyat.
I am at 733 pages in ms format...and am winding up the endings...the resolutions...some not so good because the door is open for a sequel.
This is a sprawling story, with elements from espionage tied to a high-level political struggle for power in Moscow, Russian-style. The science fiction and the reality blend seamlessly. I have done a great deal of historical research, research on the Chernobyl accident...as well as much much ,more.
I have created unique geography inside the Zone...and 5 Wild West-style boom towns along the Southern Boundary...the South Zone Settlements.
There is the River System and the smugglers and traders and cargo haulers who use it.
There is corruption, especially rife in the Ukrainian and Russian army troops responsible for guarding the Zone borders.
Besides genetically enhanced mutants...courtesy of the arch-villain, I have also created a creature that is pure predator and roamed the Earth long before the first small bipeds walked upright...the Krailiaki. They have mythology....and a societal structure.
I have mutant dogs...war dogs that have mutated into much larger, smarter, vicious creatures that live to protect the pack... these are the Tserberi...which have an accidental mythology of their own... and there is so much much more...
