There have, in recent weeks, been a few interesting bits of games reporting going on. Allegedly, a games reviewer working for a major gaming site may have been fired due to a less than perfect review of a game. I'd like to take a brief opportunity to state Mod DB's stance on things like this:
Since we primarily review mods and indie games, having huge publishers breathing down our necks isn't a problem. We (And you, since we let you write reviews as well) can quite happily say what we like about content. As long as it's justified in the review and has had more than a token glance at spelling and grammar, it's fair game to be published on Mod DB.
We include ratings from 0 to 10 on the basis that people may want to use them - and we have no problem with you rating something as terrible even if we advertise for it. If they complain about our community ratings and demand their latest 'masterpiece' is rated higher, they can advertise somewhere else.
aye, tis bloody ridiculous! if the game is naff so be it! the reviewer shouldnt be pressured into resigning. bloomin rediculous, and just shows how much game reviews are not soley based on the game itself.
Glad to hear moddb asserting its' independence. Can you cite the incident of the reporter being fired for publishing a critical review? I'd like to read more about it. THnx.
Sure thing. There are plenty of places to choose from, so it's easiest to just link to a Google search of them all:
