There is an unsupported Mac port available on our webpage Red.planetarena.org and, believe it or not, the official Mac port is any day now, so I've been promised :)

Latest word on Mac Port - the dev is telling me that it should be ready by the end of the week. He's got a few minor issues he's working out(he's a bit of a perfectionist). I think it'll be well worth the wait from what he is telling me.

It wasn't called Qfusion because of what I wrote above. Reading comprehension 101 please. As far as which engine is better, I didn't realize this was some kind of contest. Maybe if people like you(among others) didn't try to make it such, and trollbait projects like you're infamously famous for, there would be greater cohesion between game communities. I suggest you get a new perspective on this and grow up a little.

Thanks :) Yeah we are working on the engine constantly, by 2009 I'd expect it to be quite more advanced, and probably a bit faster even.

Wow dude, you don't let up do ya? LOL. Let me fill you in on a little history(and for others who are interested). CRX was originally written by myself and Victor Luchits(who wrote Qfusion) in 2002. Since then both engines were developed independently, with completely different purposes. Qfusion was primarily created as an engine that could be used as a mod base, that could use Quake 3 content and game code. CRX was developed in a more specific manner, with code that linked more to various items in the CodeRED series of games, and then eventually Alien Arena, and was never intended to be used by other games. One quick glance at the code shows that they are completely different engines(the only code they share at all is the light bloom code), that do not even run the same type of game code. I hope that helps clear thing up for you :)

It was based off of Q2 and Q3, so I have put id tech 2 as the engine and updated the profile.

Not so sad. This is a monumental release for this game which has received an enormous amount of work since the last version. Delaying the release a couple of days makes alot of sense given that Nexuiz and Warsow both released on the same day. We have alot of confidence in this version, and feel it could be the beginning of something very, very big in freeware gaming. I could post the details of what we have lined up, but I'd rather just let people find out as it happens. The people that love the game will be very pleased, and the people who love to hate the game(I'm pretty sure that you are one of those, correct?) are going to have to pick their jaws up from the floor.

If you like UT2k4 you should like this game then. Style is definitely along those lines, and there is also alternate firing modes and dodging.

Well the theme is retro sci-fi. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it's one of the things that make the game unique.

If you want different, try the Cattle Prod or Team Core Assault modes. How many FPS have a mode in which involve cows? Or try All Out Assault, the mode that has vehicles you can jump into.

Nobody in our community or dev team owns a Mac, so we have no way of doing it. A person had volunteered a few months ago and then never followed through. Basically our stance is regarding Mac is that it is not going to happen unless *somebody* who owns a Mac steps up to the plate and ports it. Otherwise, there is nothing we can really do.

Actually the balance is much better than alot of people starting out realize. Every weapon is useful, and has an alternate firing mode that makes it useful in other situations. In fact, aside from the base blaster, most of the weapons are pretty even in terms of usefulness.

Actually the AA gameplay, like Nexuiz, is much more like UT than Quake II. (Alt-fires, mutators, vehicles, deathball(think "bombing run") etc), so yeah, the comparison's to Quake seem a little off, IMHO, for both games.

Hi, and thank you for the review of our game, Alien Arena.

I just want to point out a few things that maybe got overlooked:

Those screenshots of Alien Arena look pretty awful, because detail textures and emboss filtering are both turned on. Emboss filtering is not something most people would care to use, it was added because a few players requested it. I personally find emboss filtering pretty ugly and never use it myself for taking screenshots or playing in the game.

I'd also like to point out that Alien Arena not only offers the standard DM, TDM, and CTF modes common to the Quake series, but also there is an All Out Assault mode, in which you can get into vehicles, as well as Deathball, which you can capture a ball and shoot it into a goal for extra points.

Thanks for the comments and feedback, always greatly appreciated.

I definitely need to get a manual written.

I also should have re-written the controls menu to add the flashlight. Alot of people don't know about that feature, unfortunately.

In the meantime, I'll probably post a sticky thead in the COR forums about how to set up a server and configure the game, etc.
