Well, it depends on how you learn and how ambitious you are. When I started back in december '08 I watched many hours of lectures on DVD, read books, read articles, read tipps&tricks from the pros, read blogs of artists I admire, check out new drawings and paintings of the great artists these days every single day and I was drawing for hours, aswell.

I did have interruptions aswell though. My longest period of doing nothing is about 2-3 weeks. And my highest amount of time spent a week is about 30 hours.

It's also about your perspective on things. It's not about drawing something from a photo or something, it's about studying the subject and understand it in any matter. That's something I still have to learn a lot about, as I am simply drawing with my mind off way too often.

The real problem about me is that i'm learning everything at the same time. So i'm learning modeling, web design , Coding , Story writing , mapping and voice acting. Well you get the idea.
Do you have those moment where some random painting flashes in your head and you only copy it to a peace of paper ? It's hard to explain in words but you get the idea.
Myself i'm taking a path of something like a comic-book artist. So i spend a lot of time learning human anatomy even then i mess up.I always try out different styles (manga is my favorite :D )
I have about ten books about drawing and a lot of manga books in my house

I know what you mean, I'd recommend to focus on one thing especially and do all the others just once in a while.

There are moments when I have a particular image in my head and I really want to bring it down to paper, but it never worked yet. That's because the image is either blurry (more of an emotion involved), I get distracted by another idea or the white of the paper or simply anything else around me distracts me from my idea and it's gone in a thousand of a second.

I don't think there are people who can do what you just described, only those people who have a certain desease, they can actually memorize objects perfectly and draw and paint photorealistic in every detail. But, they often have trouble learning about composition, which means they can draw photorealistic stuff, but can't show emotions in a painting in any way.

The pros of the industry have something in between. They perfectly know what composition works best for their certain idea and what elements should be included in the final result. It's just a matter of experience and how much you've learned in the past about what you're doing right now and that's not just for painting or drawing.

I think by he time I'll get in to a real institute i might become a professional concept artist and game developer.

I have the same thing. But or some reason i never liked drawing landscapes, instead i liked monsters and people.

Uns du Arbeite is fantastish !

Description

So, here it is: My Demo Reel with pieces of 2009/10.

I am a wannabe Concept Artist and started to create stuff like that about 6 months ago and before that, I learned drawing for 5 months. So, about a year ago I was a total noob in drawing and painting and this demo shows how far I came within those 11 months.
There would be a lot more to show, if this demo would also include my drawings, but I decided to only add a few of my recent pieces.

-------------------------------------------

I already explained why I did this video, you can re-read that in my blog here on moddb. Otherwise, there is nothing more to say than:

~Enjoy!
