...how to do concept art for mods without doing it?
I'm currently struggling with my mod work and it's the same question ghosting around in my head like a few times before:"Why do I always fail on work that's relating to mods, when there are rules appearing, although I don't in school?"
This is a current WIP of a piece that I'm doing for a mod:
And I'm kinda sick of it. That is because I'm struggling while doing this one. Most of the work in my gallery was without any rules given, I just wanted to realize a certain idea in my mind and workflow is always nice in those. Except a few times but then I already quit at the beginning. However, if there is someone asking me to do an idea he is having, I feel like doing it and also have good ideas, but I somehow can't realize them.
Now, I really don't know how to handle this problem. It's freaking me out because I want to do Concept Art for mods and it's like if there is no modteam everything just flies by and then I think "Maybe I am ready for modwork now" and then I fail again.
What do you think of that kind of blockade? Shall I just try to work on for modteams and hope that experience will solve that problem or shall I quit again and just try to get more skilled in an other way?
I think that if I join a mod and fail and fail and fail and fail it's of course experience but if it doesn't get better, why going on? I really want to be part of a team and doing concepts for them, I want it really bad, but it doesn't work yet.
What do you guys think?

By the way, here are two things from a sketching session.
stay tuned~
cheers.
Want a truth ? You don't fail, your method fails.
Keep that in mind. You are always you. It's a simple matter of trying a different method.
Your sketches above are also reflecting your frustration as well.
Why's that?
well most modders are always looking for a concept artist who can realize their ideas. But it is hard to completely transfer what one person visualizes to another person who should realize this. As a Storyliner, I'm confronted with a similar problem, but we have to realise that people like you also have brilliant ideas, even though they are not the same as the ones we have.
If you ask me, its about people misunderstanding your work and the amount of effort put into it. from the art i see on your page (which keeps improving work for work), I'd say your as experienced as any other concept artist here so it's nothing to do with experience!
And jjawinte is kind of right there. The Characters pose in the sketch seems frustrated, and the Hurricane next to it resolves in pure destructive (negative) energy.
I think that you guys interpret a little too much. You can't have a clue about that stick figures feelings, you can barely see that it's a figure at all! And I was thinking about that scene for a couple of months now. Not 100% exactly like that, but pretty much it.
And that 'hurricane' is just a result of letting my mind wander while doing something. And it's more relaxing to actually do round lines instead of dead end straight linework that needs a lot of concentration. And I also like it because it's symbolizing freedom of the lines. They're unique in any way and they don't have a certain purpose. There was no clear idea behind that and that's actually kind of refreshing, in terms of relaxation from recent work.
Thanks for commenting though, I like reading your opinions and thoughts to this.
