We must get paid at least something for all those advertisements. I really have no idea though. It really matters what web hoster he has and its plan he has on it. For example some sites may cost less to get hosting for it if they make you include advertisements.
Youtube gets tons of money from other companies that want to advertise on it since its the most popular video-sharing site in the world.
