Hey i'll reply here too as don't wanna flood the 3d page with engine speak. Like I said it largely depends upon what exactly you want to make. As Koroshiya_Ichi has said there is torque. The half life engine is the source engine, there is also a lot of support for unreal and cry engines.
Cry engine is pretty good for vast out door environments. There is probably most support for the unreal engines. Source is great for physics based stuff.

saw your post on the 3D artists page, if you're looking for a free (well, the demo and essentials versions are free which are plenty to get started) engine you might wanna check out the Torque engine at Garagegames.com Theres a strong community and alot of folk building quality games with it.

Thought it might be worth mentioning, take it easy!
