I think it's just an example. Obviously the video focuses a lot on cavalry, who don't perform as well in very hilly maps. This is going to be an issue for those that like to or feel the need to use cavalry - as well as the AI armies using cavalry - especially since the more modern, quicker-firing weapons are already a big detriment to cavalry use.
Great news! I like Verdun, but even though I can run more demanding games much easier, for some reason Verdun has seemed choppy since I got it a bit after it released on Steam.

Though - and not at all trying to degrade the work done - the building itself doesn't look too much like its real-life counter-part. Is this just due to engine/ environment/ prop limits? Just curious.

The Totenkopf (Death's Head or simply skull and crossbones in German) has been in use in some Prussian/ German military units of their days since Frederick the Great. Its use isn't exactly unique, since lots of units from militaries from around the globe - regular and irregular, Revolutionary-era to modern day - have used and still use it. The biggest difference when it comes to Germany is that the symbol has become synonymous with the SS, Einsatzgruppen, and other more strongly Nazi-tied sections of the German military leading up to and during WWII, since they were pretty fond of it.
The Freikorps during the post-WWI time was kind of a mix; at times they acted as militia and peacekeepers, sometimes soldiers participating in nearby (former German Empire territory) conflicts, and many towards the end came to be absorbed into the Nazi party and its associated paramilitary factions.

Obviously Allied forces used flamethrowers on the Western front, but not to the same extent as in the Pacific Theatre. The Japanese made use of bunkers, pillboxes, tunnel complexes, and other hard, static defenses much more than the Germans did, which is where the flamethrower really shined. Flamethrowers are not optimal for more fluid fronts.

Are these new United Provinces uniforms/ units? I can't seem to find them in the current version :x
Many Red Army soldiers wore the Budenovka, even up prior to WWII; that weird pointy cap. (your link didn't seem to work, so I'm not sure if you posted the same one). However, Russian soldiers throughout WWI also apparently wore Papakhas as well (I have a large history book of WWI containing lots of pictures - many of the shots of Russian WWI soldiers either show them wearing the peaked infantry cap or the Papakha embedded with the Imperial seal/ coat of arms), and both the Papakha and Ushanka have been around quite a while. It's not out of the ordinary to suspect that an officer might have one due to rank/ better equipment.

There's definitely pictures of whiter/ lighter Panzers...while the Russians definitely ran with the winter camo biz, specific Panzer units/ individual crews or elite detachments may have gone out of their way to make or acquire their own. Obviously I'm not certain, though.

I really don't see the incentive to be the Empire, realistically...Chaos seem to have way better armour (when they have it) and melee weapons, and if nothing else the huge difference in height and muscle mass alone make for a big advantage. D:

I've always wanted to see the MP-18 implemented into a game or mod. Definitely one of my favorites :)
It'd be better if it were much more simple, in my opinion. The track itself is good, but I don't think it'd fit as well with the atmosphere, given all the electronically enhanced/ added bits. The track used in the Nestlings mod comes to mind (if I recall it's only one piano playing without any synth/ electronic editing), though it's a bit lighter; so something darker and more foreboding would do wonders.

What? No, I'm sorry, but you're stupid. Just because a soldier fights under a bad government doesn't mean he supports that government. Also, your 2nd statement is completely redundant; all people are technically normal civilians by default until they join the military, enter into a governmental or law-enforcement position, or enter into a different employment that is directly under government jurisdiction.
Just because a German soldier - even at the beginning of the war - signed up and fought for their country does not by -any- measure automatically make them a Nazi, or mean that they supported or were knowledgeable of all that their government and the SS were doing. And yes, the SS was approved of...by the high-government. Does that mean the entire military approved of the SS? Not by a long shot.
I know a few friends my age that had grandparents fight for Germany during WWII and didn't support what the Nazis did in any way (hell, I know a few older guys who had their parents actually fight). They weren't conscripted; they fought because they wanted a better future for their country/ wanted to defend it, or they simply wanted a better future for their family.

The mod is supposed to be based after a nuclear holocaust. Weapons are not going to be in new/ pristine condition. No, this doesn't mean they're going to automatically become "old.", but they'll still see wear and tear. And yes, you might have gunsmiths that survived the bombs, but where are they going to get all the nice, new materials they used to get from factories and such? Bombed factories on the surface, that, even if they had the proper parts, would have barely any or none at all in good condition? Not very likely. They'd probably get the materials to manage firearms from other firearms and pieces of scrap metal.
Nevertheless, great work on the model and texture.
It lacked players and some things could've been improved on, but RE:CB did not suck, sir.

I didn't read the news post, it's that simple. Half the news posts I see offer little interesting information. And everything else I see looks great; I just really dislike the HL2 rebel outfits, because so many HL2 mods out there don't bother to add any new skins whatsoever. It gets old - fast. But again, all the other pictures look fantastic, and you've really done a great job at creating a unique atmosphere.

Well yeah, but this never happened in the M&B1 version.
Things have been going great after I downloaded the little hotfixes - way smoother than things ever were on M&B1. My only problem (while playing for Gondor) thus far seems to be that Gondor has multiple generals and armies, but aside from Prince Imrahil going out a few times, they have all stayed inside their respective castles and strongholds; also keep in mind this is quite a while after the war has started.
Because of this, all the surrounding enemy armies are rampaging through Gondor and forcing the player to pick up an enormous amount of slack. To add to this, Prince Imrahil was defeated a few times and for in-game weeks now has not rebuilt his army at all.
Anybody notice this as well or have any ideas?

On to some bugs...
Ragnarr - from the DL page - already pointed out that a bunch of settlements are in the sea or awkwardly placed; though I'm not sure if their placement is supposed to fit in with the faction's lore somehow. Some of the villages are simply very close to another faction's castles/ villages, and one capital is oddly placed on the side of a mountain...though again, totally possible that those are placed due to faction lore.
The "Start New Game" option takes a long time to finish loading due to a handful of red script errors, and also gives you the Vanilla Warband list of cities to start in, instead of any of the custom ones. In addition, Elven male and female faces cannot be edited/ morphed.
That's all I've uncovered for now!

I assumed it was going to be a for-payment expansion/ DLC, myself. I'm just kind of bummed since I thought this would be a nice change of pace for the RO2 community while also providing a small stream of newcomers into the old WWII fronts.
This probably means we're going to have to wait longer too, but oh well. If it means a more refined product and it's what the devs think is best, then that's that. Best of luck to the team!
Adding to this; if you can't add specular for whatever reason, you could try making the armour section bulkier? Maybe even bulged/ curved outward a bit, to better show it's a thick layer of armour and not a fancy section of cloth. Also adding some baggy assault (special-ops?) camo like in the picture might help a lot too. I'm not really a modder myself, so I don't really know how easy or difficult it'd be to add touches like that - just thought I'd suggest!

Partly it might be because the plates simply don't look very metallic, but obviously that's more difficult without specular.
A big part of it could also be the fact that the "uniform" underneath looks more like a traditional noble's robe or something; not a military uniform (no offense intended D:). Military uniforms typically don't have lifted embroidery, for one.
Agreed; it should feel like you're fighting for a major city, not just an outpost or something.
What's the state of the game, anyways? I've heard about it multiple times in the past, but it was never explained how far along the progress of the game is.

Technically (though it could go either way), he only misspelled it once. He submitted multiple images under one title; he only typed the title out once. The site did all the rest.
Nice work and all, but those muskets seem kind of long, unless NW's soldiers are just short. The Brown Bess Long Land Pattern was only 4.875 ft or 148.59 cm long; it looks like if the soldier dropped the musket down to the ground, it would still be taller than him (not measuring the bayonet).

Pretty sure he's just carrying the one rifle, with the middle selection showing its stats (you can see that he unequipped it in the next picture); the other items you didn't mention are the Epee bayonet, a Chauchat MG, and what looks like a lantern? I didn't think it was -that- much of a big deal until I saw the Chauchat, personally :p
It'd be a big stretch for all that stuff, though it doesn't seem too bad when you consider video-game standards. But an entire machine-gun taking up as much space as a hand grenade seems a little ridiculous.

Your recent news post says they're part Prussian as well, though? And I'm just more confused then. The new pictures have the Swadians with red (UK-esque) uniforms, and some of their (current build) in-game ones are Prussian. You can't have the de-facto French faction fielding red-uniformed armies...I mean you -can-...it's your mod and all. But it still looks and seems extremely odd.
Can you give a run-down of all the factions and their intended real life counterparts, then? All I'm saying is that Russia has a lot of material to work with...you really shouldn't need to blend them into the German states when both of them were their own separate and unique entities.
But I thought the new United Provinces already had strong Prussian influences? And the Holy Swadian Empire seems based off of (at least judging by name and some of the uniforms) the later Austrian Empire and other former-HRE German states. Russia is/ was a huge faction, so it doesn't make sense to diversify it more with nations that don't share much similarity or land with it, even if it is just fictional game. Why not make new Cossack/ Polish/ North-western Asian inspired units instead?

Now, I -do not- agree with the U.S.'s involvement in Vietnam, but try saying that line to some post-conflict Vietnamese or Hmong immigrants and their families. I know a few here myself, and their families witnessed firsthand how "good" the Vietcong really were after the war had ended and the communists had taken power. Even a good amount of North Vietnamese/ Vietcong soldiers saw after the country was unified that Vietnam was not being transformed into the nation they had originally fought to establish.
There's a reason the U.S. and other nations saw a huge boost in Vietnamese and Hmong immigrants/ refugees over the years following the war (and no, I don't just mean a year or two after the conflict, I'm talking into the 80's and 90's; in fact my state has one of the largest, if not the largest, Hmong immigrant populations in the U.S., not to mention a large number of Vietnamese immigrants as well). The Vietcong turned out to be anything but the "good guys;" or, if nothing else, the nation and its governmental rule that was brought about as a result of the North Vietnamese-Vietcong victory was anything but "good."

It's "fantasy" in the sense that the game takes place in a fictional (ie. imaginative) setting, but it's not fantasy is the sense of a genre.
Unless of course he meant it in the former way; but in that case he'd be saying he isn't fond of anything that isn't directly based on real world events :)
But then in theory he -could- be fond of it since the game is based off real medieval warfare and equipment...
Medieval =/= "fantasy"
