I thought it were a chigger, but it werent no chigger! But it were!!! Spookey!! So i ran! HEY! You're not my dad!!

Report RSS Far Cry 2 griping hour!

okay, i've played FC2 long enough to have the authority to rant about it.

take a dee3p breath, hold it, and start reading! if you feel like passing out while reading this, feel free to, and pick up where you left off when you regain consciousness. then hold your breath and try again.

First things first, the game is wonderful and i love it. it is 1/4 as massive as battlefield 2, but the gameplay and physics more than make up for it and as a result, FC2 triumphs over BF2.

Now, goody goodness aside, i am really disappointed in the limited multiplayer land area. it looks like what, maybe a square mile? at best! 5 Sq mi would have been much more appropriate!

THEN they have to limit the available number of vehicles to SIX! and to top it off, the vehicular selection SUCKS! we get what, 2 boats, and 5 kinds of cars, and a hang glider!

here ya go the entire list!!!

fishing boat
swamp boat
car
dune buggy
jeep liberty
jeep wrangler
gun mounted truck
Hang Glider

the only viaraty of these vehicles are the three types of mounted weapons found on the trucks and boats and the colors of the hang glider!!

Not to mention the shameless plug of pasting the Intel emblem on that one glider.

usually video game companies paste their OWN insignia on billboards and trucks and, in this case, hang gliders. which is still annoying, but at least it makes sense!

we dont have any of the COOL vehicles, you know like tanks and helicopters, but on the other hand, it wouldnt make a hell of a lot of sense in Africa. still, it would be nice to have a wider range of vehicles, as well as lifting the multiplayer vehicle limit!

i cant see how, as the editor can handle it, the game cant handle more than 6 cars, or is this an ubisoft server issue?!? that isnt any better mind you!

Now what would i have left to gripe about?

Game play. Multiplayer is tremendously suppressed with only 4 game modes to play, and none too interesting either. very commonplace, the most unique of the bunch is uprising and they even managed to make that suck!

Uprising would be completely better if there were up to 8 capture points, and on top of that, that ANYONE could capture it. battlefield be damned, i couldnt care in the least bit if that was "copying" battlefield. it's a good concept, and fun to play, so why ruin a good thing?

NEXT!

Capture the diamond, no problems here. TDM AND DM cannot be truly improved HOWEVER....

for realisms's sake, a one life to live mode would drastically improve every game mode.

Last man standing Deathmatch > DM

Last man standing TDM > TDM

Last man standing CTF < CTF see? they wouldfnt improve EVERY game mode! but all the same i think a last man standing overall rule should be included. respawn versus 1 life. give us the power to have more fun!!!

more game modes are deffenitley in order. like classic Deathmatch, you remmeber doom, or Quake, where you didnt start out with a weapon's kit and a full set of clips, you had to FIND your weapons AND your ammo!

THAT is TRUE deathmatch! that is how they did it in Doom, that is how they did it in Quake, that is how they did it in Perfect Dark, and that is how they should be doing it STILL.

Dont get me wrong, i LOVE having the kit selection, but i MISS the survivalist game play of fending for yourself. plus having weapons scattered about the map encourages players to keep moving, instead of campping next to an ammo crate.

also, more ammo crates. 10 just isnt enough.

especcially if we were lucky enough to get a 5 sq. mi. area instead of 1 sq. mi.. 1 Sq mile needs at least 25 ammo boxes... 5 Sq. miles would deffenitely require a minimum of 125 ammo boxes.

so what is it, were the programmers pressed to meet a deadline, or did they pull a NO-NO and think that the gamers werent capable or up to the challenge of making REAL maps?

P.S. i am SO pissed off that i cant put waterfalls in my maps, im not even going to start on that.

I agree with the first half sort of I guess. I could never fully understand what this game's multiplay is trying to be. I don't think it was supposed to be a really vehicle orientated game to begin with. Vehicles are [imo] only useful for quick transportation in this game. It is my thought that they were trying to make a wider open version of COD4 MP; consequently featuring vehicles as a means of transportation but not any valid combat element. Now about that 'last man standing' stuff you got there. It would be cool indeed, but it would probably just turn in to a camp fest, or complete sniper battle. Either way it wouldn't work too well. Ammo crates? Really? This didn't bother me too much, and I use an abnormally high amount of ammo (one clip per kill on average lol). I like the concept of losing your main weapon and having to resort to a side arm or knife for one last desperate stand. :P The one thing I completely agree with is the kits selection part. Times are changing I guess. :(

lol yeah, i dunno what they were/are aiming for, but i know what i want :P

Last man standing is just an option i think would make an improvement in multiplayer. as well as other game modes, anything really, just... more than 4 game modes.

Oh yeah, and ladders! FFS i mean come on, ladders! i want to be able to jump off ladders in case im getting shot at! at least if i fall and go splat, i had a fighting chance to evade gunfire!

I like there being ammo crates, for having kits selections, but if we were to have a "classic" deathmatch mode, where you start with a knife, maybe pistol, and have to find everything else, ammo crates would be redundant.

hmmm...., from a map makers perspective it is possible to protect ladders. Like maybe a concrete pipe around it for instance. As long as it's not covering the mounting boxes it *should* work. That's just off the top of my head; I'm sure there is a better way to do this. Come to think of it I'm surprised that no one has tried this to begin with. I might just play around with some concepts like this now that you mention it.

actually, i've thought about that, but the pipes dont work like i want, and for the most part, protecting ladders would create a lot of problems.

besides, that's not the point.

regardless of gunfire, i want to be able to jump off a freaking ladder!

Too true. It is a flaw that we are gonna have to live with with I guess. It's not like FC2 is the first game to do this though. :P If you can't get the cover working the best thing to do would be to put the ladders in places that won't have you get shot up the ***. I know that is rarely possible so I understand your frustration. I'll think of something. ;) Get back to you on this one.

oh yeah, here you go, the icing on the cake:

Multiplayer co-op game!!!

i cannot stress this enough! i want to be able to make at LEAST 10 sq. mi. single player and online co-op games!!!

i cannot express how tremendously awesome it would be to play with people online and STRATEGIZE against the computer in order to accomplish objectives as a team, or fail miserably!

i dunno if a team of 16 people versus the computer would work well for a co-op mode, but who knows...?

up to 6 seems easily workable though.

yes, i would love to make an intricate and diverse campaign or scenario using the FC2 terrain editor, it's just a shame that it's strictly wysiwyg, regardless of the co-op gripes.

also, being able to select the land size should be an option so that players with hign end machines CAN make 10 Sq. Mi. maps! even if only 2 Sq. Mi. are playable! :P that would be an instant improvement.

but no, i just want to play FC2 in co-op mode :(

While we are dreaming about the 'what ifs?', I would like to add custom sky boxes. That would be out of this world great. You could simulate a mountain range, city, or whatever and make level design a whole lot easier. I know that would conflict with their fancy day night cycles, but who cares if you have that feature in MP. If anything it causes more harm than good. For example; you have a map that you want to be played at dusk, and two minutes later it's bloody midnight.

But yeah, COOP would be great for this game, however it wouldn't really make sense with the ending. There are also no real levels so it would be impossible to coordinate two players in the exactly same part of the game unless they have been playing together in real time. What would work would be some sort of support system where you have one guy playing the campaign normally and others can spawn near him just as buddies and lend a hand.

I'm looking way to deep into this. :(

actually time should be, if anything, REAL TIME in multiplayer... not... what is it, 50% faster? hours shouldnt pass in the short amount of time of 5 minutes... 15 minutes per hour maybe... but real time would be better.

as for co-op i think you're looking in too deep, and missing some important key aspects in the shallows...

co-op can play similar to CTD or TDM, or even uprising, having the players on the co-op team start in one particular part of the map, perhaps a remote location, or maybe a jail break, and have little objectives scattered about the map for players to complete. game is over when all the players are dead (under LMS settings) or all objectives have been destroyed, failed, or completed.

then at the end game, players are scored based on survival time, kills, and objective completion, as well as penalized for jeopardizing the mission objectives, if they had.

Oh I see what you are saying. Not a coop campaign, but a special coop game mode for mp. That would definitely work.

well both actually, but a campaign would require linking maps and entire servers dedicated to a single game, essentially turning it into a semi-RPG FPS lol and yet STILL they would probably limit us to 16 players!!! XD
