I'm farely certain they released an SDK which included the source code for the game-logic at least.
The colours used here make little sense... They may as well run around holding a flag with the text "shoot me!"
It's a good start but using colours such as blue (or pink) do not work well with the environment the game takes place in.

Nothing wrong with creating content for such an old engine as surprisingly the limitations you'll find yourself working around will end up teaching you a lot. Working around such limitations can often teach you some great methods in regards to optimisations and various tricks.
