Mod Review on Jul 21st, 2014
I liked Rabbit Hole. From my point of view it offered an original twist to the classical plot inside HL2 Universe mods, and I think that’s nice.
To me this mod seems more like a survival horror, or better say, is a HL2 universe mod, which progressively turns out into a zombie survival horror, and I have to say I liked the idea of the mighty Combine scared by this supernatural-poltergeist forces under the city.
Now, about the gameplay, to me seems fairly good, the combat in the surface of the city feels quite right, but obviously this mod is not centered into CMB soldier combat, but in zombie combat mainly, so once you’re inside the catacombs beware of it, because there’s plenty of zombie combat down there, also is a decent point in favor to have plenty of ammo and med kits around.
The “experimental” part with almost 0 gravity was a total surprise to me, and I think it was quite good implemented into this mod so I didn’t find it annoying as some have pointed out.
So maybe the big cons about this mod, from my perspective are related mainly about the gameplay, I mean, for me is pretty much annoying to fight hordes and more hordes of HL2 zombies, because for me that kind of combat is very, very slow, I like faster and more dynamic combat in HL, so I decide battles against CMB troops than zombies a million times.
So I guess for me I would have preferred the lasts parts of the mod after the fog no-gravity section, would have been focused more in trying to scare the player than those battles against zombie hordes. Specially once you reach the underground cemetery, I found that part very hectic, because you fight hordes and hordes of ghost-zombies, so that makes it way to much struggling, and I guess the author kind of lost a cool part there in the cemetery to have a more scary ending, though the idea of having the G-Man involved in those poltergeist issues was a cool touch too.
In conclusion I found this mod original because thinks out of the box.

This is amazing! I hope this entry would have won the competition, because the combat is so intense and the whole map quality was delightful!!
Those visuals are pretty outstanding and just made me feel like I was in a real city shattered by the combine, I also think the whole pace, between zombies and CMB combat in this mod is very well balanced, this mod also allowed all the way plenty of exploring areas which hide very rewarding ammo and health so that's another great point in favor.
Then the part that really blows me away is the sniper turret!!! Oh boy that was simply brilliant!! you know just the fact the developer allows me as a gamer to use the CMB sniper rifle was fantastic!! I had so much fun and entertainment in that part, and I say is great because so far, I haven't seen any modder to actually enable that HL2 sniping weapon, so congratulations, because that part, and the whole intense combat, makes this whole mod worthy and I'd say from now a classic, yeah, a mod that allows you to make use of the sniper HL2 Weapon deserves to be called a classic!!
So play it!! If you love hard CMB HL2 Combat, you're going to love this one!

I have to tell you, I didn’t like this one. some pros, are about the good mapping, and almost ultra HD new models, and indeed we can see it has some very nice and polished parts, in a pure Black Mesa style, but oh boy!! some others like the final battle are a complete mess… And then that hectic and daunting stupid use of bots to open doors!!! I really don’t matter to use bots, but in Source engine they’re more handy than in HL1 for god sake!!, and I have to tell you this mod relies more than 40% of the time on that silly bot dynamic.
And also another super bad level designing decision is to place a backtracking dynamic, when you’re in the bio dome complex part and in the core, and in Dr. Eddie’s lab. Oh boy!!! please don’t do that!!! many stuff to search in order to open doors like more than 3 freakin’ keycards!!!! and I didn’t found the last one, so I guess that was a horrible trigger glitch, I just have to use noclip more than twice!!! that’s enough. The gameplay navigation is frankly terrible in the most crucial part of the mod, even in the confuse beginning is terrible too, and here I’m talking about of not knowing where to go and how to proceed.
Battles are OK, but at the end xenian enemies became 100 times more powerful without any explanatory reason, and also you have to take care of those stupid ally bots, so be ware of letting them get hurt because that’s gonna be the end.
Sorry but in this case as I replayed this mod, I realize the wrong points definitely outweighs the positive mapping and technical good points, so yeah, I recommend this mental mess only to truly lovers of Black Mesa Research Facility. And though the concept is good, involving some connections between the HL2 world and even Portal!, and offering 2 different finales, this mod easily goes to hell because the worst level designing decisions it makes, it was a pain in the butt to play, no joke, really. If I have to decide between this mod and Absolute Redemption I totally stay with AR mo

Well I say I like this mod, because its whole intention reminds me to the old school mods we used to seen once in HL1 modding scene of the first years of the 2000'nd decade, which is basically mods built in very narrow, almost boxy scenarios lousy transitions between maps and mainly the whole maps built around the puzzle(s) concept even involving some backtracking (a thing that I hate in HL mods, but this is ok, as Riot in Progress mod is the big backtracking hell or I should better say mess!!!)
The stuff in the map that is already been delivered feels OK and I hope the developer finishes the last part of the house in order to play the whole mod.
Also I liked the main language of it is Spanish as is my native language, and those models are just pretty nice touch, I loved the melee weapon by the way, I just only would love if they can re-model the fire weapons too.
So in conclusion this is a nice nostalgic project you should try.
Muy bien hecho sigan adelante y traten de mejorar todo el mod me gusto mucho ya que es uno de los pocos mods disponibles en español!! gracias amigos!

Well. I’d say that to me this looks like another Czech or eastern Europe crazy mod. You know this eastern European mods always are kind of odd and crazy, and though I didn’t understand the language I think the story has some acid, dark-humor kind of “plot”.
The whole first part until you get to the worm and the radioactive liquid is fair ok, you battle some xenians guys without trouble, but then that worm part screw all up! Very bad designed (You don’t know where to go and the obvious return its kind of impossible if you don’t use noclip), and I know it was back from the first 2000nd years but I guess back then there were some quality maps around.
In conclusion, play it if you like to play everything available, that for now, sadly it’s not much.. :(

Well, here we have another "old school" HL2 map pack, and I say map pack, because here we have a set of 6 chapters, which offer us very special maps which not necessarily have a logic together.
In all of the maps always have to look for a key or something in order to open some doors and proceed into the map, the mod itself has some cool battles and most of it develops underground until you reach the surface.
Battles were fair enough and also were entertaining, the only issue I complain about is the end, for me, would've been perfect that once you reach the house near the buggy to escape, a final big or huge battle comes down, I hadn't that so I got very disappointed, I mean why is the point of offer to the player a bunch of weapons and ammo as a "gift" at the end of the mod if you can't use it??? There would have been perfect to fight against some hunters in an ambush like combat, some elite combines and maybe a helicopter.
Overall is a nice mod to play, with the simple goal to escape, also being a rebel and not Gordon adds another nice touch to the story.
In conclusion play it! I guess your gonna be entertained"!

This is a very "old school" horror mod here you explore and look for things like keys and stuff in order to progress, also the horror in this mod is quite psychological so is not horror-survive action like, here we don't have a total conversion as "Grey" or "NH2" and compare this work to those mods is simply out of place.
I like that just to be the first time, this guys have developed a nice mod with a concept that definitely stands out. That creepypasta is absolutely a great source of inspiration and I don't really know why nobody has developed a movie, or a game around it.
The scares in this mod were good and simple, a thing that I loved, that crucified skeleton just gave me the most horrific shiver I've had so far... Now I know many things can be improved and actually this mod opens the door to a sequel that definitely can be improved.
I have to warn you that if you look for a Cry of Fear mod style, this is not that kind, I guess this is closer to the "Korsakovia" mod kind, though that one is better than this one.
Overall I loved the concept and the fact this guys finally were able to release it is always a good point, I hope they improve the mod in the future until we have a better and bigger piece of work.

The Overall reaction is: WHAT THE FRUCKK IS THAT???? I really don't get the concept, and I really don't understand why this thing it has higher rates than Claustrophobia mod for example.
The only nice thing was the dark humor at the end with that grave announcing HL3 is dead...
I don't know to me this mod is a totally AVOID IT!°!!

This is another mod in the category of those in "Continuing Development", because here in this release we have the first official delivery called Estranged, Act 1. Now, if that is a good thing well I really don't know. I mean, as a pure mod gamer, I prefer a mod to be delivered as a whole instead of parts, although I know there are some very, very ambitious projects, as Underhell mod, which their only way is to release in parts rather than a whole. With the case of this mod, I guess the job into it is great and huge as in most of those Total conversion mods, but I would have better preferred to wait to see this mod launched as a whole, why? Well because here in this Act 1 I found things I liked but others I frankly didn't like at all.
First, the pros are the quite immersive story around this mysterious island and the whole secrets, the gameplay and story tell is quite linear, a thing that I prefer rather than those cut scenes-cinematic mods like Underhell, also the dynamic "search things such as keycards or so" and "go there and press the button" are not overused, like in Underhell, again that's another nice touch.
Now the cons, or things I didn't like at all, but nevertheless can be improved are, the hectic combat and absolutely stupid weapon system used in the gameplay, I just did not like the formula, many zombies in one part, too few in others, plus be able to carry just 1 weapon which is melee in almost a big amount of time during the maps, I just allow the player to use more than 3 weapons and, please correct that terrible enemy imbalance in the whole mod. Also the zooming use is pretty weird, very annoying in some times I'd rather prefer to use the old reliable "Z" key to do that instead of the scroll-wheel in the mouse, also there is an imbalance regarding to lighting in the maps, as dark areas are way too dark and lightened areas are way too enlightened.
Overall, this is a nice mod to play is fun and bad points can be corrected in the future.

Well, this was a pretty interesting mod, the lovely German and Russian WW2 weapons reminded me a lot to another great HL1 mod called "The Gate" which I hope the 2nd source version of this one coming soon...
Anyway I think this mod is a great total conversion, as some reviewer said, it had the all time old school atmosphere of adventure total conversion from HL1, but I guess some of HL1 total conversions are better in gameplay terms than this one.
Now, the main flaws I see in the implementation of this mods are that well, is horrendously influenced by CRY OF FEAR mod in the whole structure, I mean, items management and stupid fix save games zones, those stupid books!! In my opinion that's the main weak point in here, HL2 engine is just not suitable for that kind of gameplay so just allow the quick saves f6 key it'll be perfect especially when you have to do a lot of backtrack in the main central part of the mod, that's Scheinzel's mansion.
Also balance of the combat and exploring part is another down point for this mod, as it feels just overwhelmed with some enemies in some parts and just too damn empty of them in other parts..
Finally, some points about the story are kind of a joke. I mean, to name swastika forest to the place where the mansion is, is just stupid, and I didn't understood why the story of the mod is located still in Europe?? Better place it in South America like Brazil or Argentina, as many Nazi main commanders ran away there at the end of WW2... This details are just big stupid flaws in the story plot.
But overall we have the classic cool aspects of a classic survival horror mod, a clichéd story of a lunatic commander of some war experimenting with people, monster abominations impeding your way to kill the big bad guy, and some cool scary moments involving dark places as hell.
In conclusion play this mod as it's cool but be warned you have to backtrack a lot search for items and press lots of buttons.
