Well, here we have another "old school" HL2 map pack, and I say map pack, because here we have a set of 6 chapters, which offer us very special maps which not necessarily have a logic together.
In all of the maps always have to look for a key or something in order to open some doors and proceed into the map, the mod itself has some cool battles and most of it develops underground until you reach the surface.
Battles were fair enough and also were entertaining, the only issue I complain about is the end, for me, would've been perfect that once you reach the house near the buggy to escape, a final big or huge battle comes down, I hadn't that so I got very disappointed, I mean why is the point of offer to the player a bunch of weapons and ammo as a "gift" at the end of the mod if you can't use it??? There would have been perfect to fight against some hunters in an ambush like combat, some elite combines and maybe a helicopter.
Overall is a nice mod to play, with the simple goal to escape, also being a rebel and not Gordon adds another nice touch to the story.
In conclusion play it! I guess your gonna be entertained"!

This is a very "old school" horror mod here you explore and look for things like keys and stuff in order to progress, also the horror in this mod is quite psychological so is not horror-survive action like, here we don't have a total conversion as "Grey" or "NH2" and compare this work to those mods is simply out of place.
I like that just to be the first time, this guys have developed a nice mod with a concept that definitely stands out. That creepypasta is absolutely a great source of inspiration and I don't really know why nobody has developed a movie, or a game around it.
The scares in this mod were good and simple, a thing that I loved, that crucified skeleton just gave me the most horrific shiver I've had so far... Now I know many things can be improved and actually this mod opens the door to a sequel that definitely can be improved.
I have to warn you that if you look for a Cry of Fear mod style, this is not that kind, I guess this is closer to the "Korsakovia" mod kind, though that one is better than this one.
Overall I loved the concept and the fact this guys finally were able to release it is always a good point, I hope they improve the mod in the future until we have a better and bigger piece of work.

The Overall reaction is: WHAT THE FRUCKK IS THAT???? I really don't get the concept, and I really don't understand why this thing it has higher rates than Claustrophobia mod for example.
The only nice thing was the dark humor at the end with that grave announcing HL3 is dead...
I don't know to me this mod is a totally AVOID IT!°!!

This is another mod in the category of those in "Continuing Development", because here in this release we have the first official delivery called Estranged, Act 1. Now, if that is a good thing well I really don't know. I mean, as a pure mod gamer, I prefer a mod to be delivered as a whole instead of parts, although I know there are some very, very ambitious projects, as Underhell mod, which their only way is to release in parts rather than a whole. With the case of this mod, I guess the job into it is great and huge as in most of those Total conversion mods, but I would have better preferred to wait to see this mod launched as a whole, why? Well because here in this Act 1 I found things I liked but others I frankly didn't like at all.
First, the pros are the quite immersive story around this mysterious island and the whole secrets, the gameplay and story tell is quite linear, a thing that I prefer rather than those cut scenes-cinematic mods like Underhell, also the dynamic "search things such as keycards or so" and "go there and press the button" are not overused, like in Underhell, again that's another nice touch.
Now the cons, or things I didn't like at all, but nevertheless can be improved are, the hectic combat and absolutely stupid weapon system used in the gameplay, I just did not like the formula, many zombies in one part, too few in others, plus be able to carry just 1 weapon which is melee in almost a big amount of time during the maps, I just allow the player to use more than 3 weapons and, please correct that terrible enemy imbalance in the whole mod. Also the zooming use is pretty weird, very annoying in some times I'd rather prefer to use the old reliable "Z" key to do that instead of the scroll-wheel in the mouse, also there is an imbalance regarding to lighting in the maps, as dark areas are way too dark and lightened areas are way too enlightened.
Overall, this is a nice mod to play is fun and bad points can be corrected in the future.

Well, this was a pretty interesting mod, the lovely German and Russian WW2 weapons reminded me a lot to another great HL1 mod called "The Gate" which I hope the 2nd source version of this one coming soon...
Anyway I think this mod is a great total conversion, as some reviewer said, it had the all time old school atmosphere of adventure total conversion from HL1, but I guess some of HL1 total conversions are better in gameplay terms than this one.
Now, the main flaws I see in the implementation of this mods are that well, is horrendously influenced by CRY OF FEAR mod in the whole structure, I mean, items management and stupid fix save games zones, those stupid books!! In my opinion that's the main weak point in here, HL2 engine is just not suitable for that kind of gameplay so just allow the quick saves f6 key it'll be perfect especially when you have to do a lot of backtrack in the main central part of the mod, that's Scheinzel's mansion.
Also balance of the combat and exploring part is another down point for this mod, as it feels just overwhelmed with some enemies in some parts and just too damn empty of them in other parts..
Finally, some points about the story are kind of a joke. I mean, to name swastika forest to the place where the mansion is, is just stupid, and I didn't understood why the story of the mod is located still in Europe?? Better place it in South America like Brazil or Argentina, as many Nazi main commanders ran away there at the end of WW2... This details are just big stupid flaws in the story plot.
But overall we have the classic cool aspects of a classic survival horror mod, a clichéd story of a lunatic commander of some war experimenting with people, monster abominations impeding your way to kill the big bad guy, and some cool scary moments involving dark places as hell.
In conclusion play this mod as it's cool but be warned you have to backtrack a lot search for items and press lots of buttons.

Well, overall I liked the concept, it feels like a total conversion mod, without getting out of the OpF and HL environments, the story is clear and neat and is pretty cool to see how it evolves from the beginning to the end of the mod.
Combat is nice and very strategic, which is a thing I love in this kind of mods. Also the OpF weapons are perfect to do clever combat to the end, actually weapons are my favorite thing in OpF, and here is pretty well applied to the mod.
Also the puzzles were clever and all of them pretty good, though I know that some inexperienced gamer could found them kind of hard, but nevertheless they are perfectly beatable.
The cutscenes were pretty nice too, and voice acting though it had his mediocre parts and some kind of cool ones it was well applied too.
The whole maps were medium to big size but always got me exploring and battling so that’s also another detail I liked.
I know this mod it had some buggy glitches, like sometimes faulty triggers or so but that’s rather a common problem in many HL mods, so it didn’t bother me at all, besides all of them could be solved via noclip.
And at last that final escape added a perfect ending to the mod and always got me pretty well entertained as action didn’t was down a bit, so yep I can say this is a very good mod every real HL-OpF pure gamer must play!

Well this were 3 really tough series, where combat is pretty hard, the story line is weird and the mapping is mostly bad, really narrow spaces weird textures, dark maps, but overall it had some fun in that combat and custom weapons like the AK47 in mission 2 and custom weapons in mission 3 worth to play this one.
Obviously this was from 2000, so we're talking about early days in mapping, so don't you expect anything perfect.

This mod, feels great. I mean is one of its kind, is maybe only of the few that based on HL1 are trying to recreate a HL2 mod, a HL2 environment and that's so unique, so far I know no one have try to do something like that, as remember, in fact only another map work contains HL2 material.
Though some maps were narrow the combat is OK, and the whole objective is placed nice, also when you are in the citadel building the atmosphere in there really feels like the ones we found in HL2 maps and mods, related to CMB architecture.
Overall this is a nice mod for HL1 you should try, but if you are trying to found perfection then this one is not for you, this is for people who really love HL spirit and environment, and appreciate the concept of HL1 to recreate the spaces of HL2.

OK, so I can see now why some people say this mod is a HL1 classic. Because, back then in 1999 one year after HL1 was released, I guess this mod sure it was impressive. With a coherent story involving Gordon having to achieve an epic goal and the whole combat against grunts and xenians, and also some puzzles along the way, this mod sure blew the minds of many gamers whose desires for more HL1 maps were big.Now its been 13 years after and to me it doesn’t look great, actually I had terrible troubles to find the crowbar at first place, sure or maybe it was my mistake and I didn’t see it in the first maps at all, I just found a glock which it was practically useless due to the amount of enemies you have to deal with at the first steps. Also I believe the whole map design sometimes feels boxy, and some areas are just too narrow, so it felt that after some years of HL mapping some mods were definitely better than this one, compare “smart decoy” to this one and you see what I mean, the former is an almost perfect HL1 map, or kind of closest to the HL1 perfection in map development terms, also the celebrated Adam Foster’s “Some Place Else” a prequel to “Minerva” was also between the really well done maps for HL1.The previous doesn’t quit credit in this mod, because it was one of the first in HL1 mod universe back then when Planethalflife or Halflifefiles were the big and almost unique HL1 dedicated mod spaces. Also the coherent story tell of the mod and some clever combat parts make this mod worth to be played.

Again, Chris Ameyugo, AKA: Kasperg, surprises us with an outstanding and almost perfect (because no maps can actually emulate reality, but this work is pretty close to it indeed)map and texture work, in this re-launch of one of his famous maps inspired in the famous falling water house.
Overall a great experience, is pretty close to a cool 3D museum experience, and actually in gameplay terms, we found some clever puzzles involving music and some exploration, also the dark humor touches are perfectly fit into the mod if you are curious enough to find it out.
The architecture design of the house and the environment and atmospheric feeling is there, the natural sounds are so real and those careful details are just a plus and the difference between bad and just good, outstanding mapping.
Now, the only bad points I see in this map, is that there's absolutely not combat in this kind of maps, and I know that's not the goal or the purpose of the mod, but I just can't stop imagine how it would be to see a great combat scenario or combat HL2 mission in that cool map!!, it would be just TERRIFIC, killing some Hunters, some Elite Overmatch units and maybe a heli or a gunship would be just great!! I'd love to see Kasperg putting some combat action into this map, and maybe a little story, like trying to murder Breen on his woods residence... you know that would be really AWESOME.
But despite my imagination this map worth a million and I'd say is now a classic into the Kasperg's maps and mods repertory.
