Fun, fast tactical shooting(puzzle?)game. Steep learing-curve, though!

I tried some roguelikes like Nethack but they didn't cut it for me because the "raw" game experience always seemed kind of stale and not.. well.. pretty enough.
Enter Cardinal Quest, which had everything I had hoped for. Nice 16bitesque graphics, rudimentary story with "cutscenes", great music and sound effects plus that je-ne-sais-quoi early 90´s feel to it.
If you liked games like Hero Quest and D&D and you´re looking for a game to kill some o´ that spare time, this is for you!
