This is a very deep and hard subject. Even I find it hard to counter.
But the evil is our own doing, with our own free will and selfishness.

But the thing is that you don't understand is: He has a plan, a plan that includes every single human being. A plan to stop evil for good and for always. It may seem like He is doing nothing, but His work is all around us. No man can say when his plan will come to an end, but one thing is for sure, his plan will succeed, for he is God, equal to no other.

That, my friends, is the truth about God.

Well, God did alot of good to the poor souls in the 9/11 incident, and those who died in His "Holy Crusades", not to mention the countless that died for being "Heretics". I think Religion stopped humanity from progressing by huge amounts...

I can agree with that. But we all do or will eventually think that there is some type of higher power in the Universe. For me it is God.

Humanity is in the middle both good and evil. How can god defeat evil if it can be both at the same time?

Guys can't you see!! God clearly says that He does not delight in the death of the wicked. here is an excellently written argument against God being evil: Moddb.com

Also I think that God does stop evil, we just don't see it; He won't let satan and his gang of demons to do everything (the story of Job where satan was permitted to whatever he wanted to do, in order of testing Job, BUT satan could not kill Job!!) so I think that God does stop a lot of evil things from happening but he gave us free will and whats a free will if we can only do good and not be able to do anything evil?

Well, if he gave us free will to make our own choices. Then why did he send all those prohpets or w/e to tell us how we should live our life? Makes no sense. "hey! heres free will! Now do as I say!"

Lol? xD

IMO, the best society would be one without religion. Or one with only 1 religion. (Which is never going to happen Lol)

Um you realize that He gives us laws and rules so that we would be healthy. Just look at the 10 commandment I mean at least 5 of them concern us doing something to another person. And then the commandment saying do not eat animal fat or blood well both of those HAVE been proven to be unhealthy, eating animal fat makes you fat! Of course God knows that people will not follow His commandments but at least He gave us guidelines to follow. He sent his prophets to tell others about His plan for the world and to basically tell other people about His existence. So you can chose whether to believe that God exists which still isn't enought because even Satan himself believes that God exists. No you must have faith that God has given his one and only son to pay for your sins. In other words believe God instead of just believing in God. It's up to you but I would not want to wake up once it would be too late…

Don't get me wrong, I believe in a higher power in the universe. But to me, the bible and all the other god related things people kill each other over is not something I would ever put my faith in. Did you know that they have found a old cave with over 100 Different bibles that date back to the Roman Empire? All in 1 cave. So, one have to ask; How much in the bible is actually gods will, and how much is the will of church/man?

Also, I am quite sure that many of the things in the bible is written as were they RULES. They may have been guidelines. But in the Danish version of the bible, I am 100% sure that they are written down like were they rules and not guidelines. :P

Reply Good karma+2 votes

i agree that they are rules but nobody can follow all of them; that's why i kind of described them as guidelines because since we have a free will then we don't necessarily have to follow them, however following them makes us a better person in general, but according to the New Testament nobody can save themselves by doing good deeds, since everyone has sinned, and the penalty for sin is death, but Jesus paid that penalty, now all that we have to do is accept Jesus's sacrifice, and believe God that he has the power to forgive our sins through Jesus. also what are you sources for the 100 different bibles? A great book that i will suggest is 'The Case for Christ' really read it even if you don't believe in God. btw i think we already started the debate:)

I don't know.. Read it in one of those 'Illustrated Science' magizines I think. It was years ago, but I can try and dig it up.

Don't know the book, I'm sure its a good one, but the last thing I am going to read; is something like that. It would most likely just annoy me. Like all things religion xD

As for the Sin part, we are all going to die, sin or not.. Lol

If one needs "guidelines" to know how to be a good person. Then that person lack morality at its most basic from. Those kind of people carry the term 'Psycopaths'. Psyco + religion = ? - I could have filled it out, but all religions people would hunt me down and kill me for it Lol.

it would only upset me but i would not try to hurt you. anyways I still believe that God stops a lot of the evil to the point where it begins to affect our free will. he gave us a free will so we chose whether to follow him or to sin and really a lot of the time i chose to sin. but what can he do about that i mean asides from killing people just before the sin or taking our free will away from us making us robots or ending the world then there is anything else that is possible since even killing satan himself would restrict our free will because what is a free will if we can only do good and never even know about the evil?

Well, I can understand that "god" interveining would restrict our free will, but the world would still be a better place. And removing evil isn't necassary removing our free will. All it takes is removing the things that makes us violent and so easy to corrupt. Not exactly a sacrifice IMO.

i don't want this to sound mean and evil but since someone who chooses neither doesn't choose God and so they don't want to be with Him, so what can God do but let them do what they want. so they cannot go to heaven since that's where God is. so the only other option is hell, sorry. someone once told me that hell is not to be considered a punishment but rather a consequence of our choice. also hell will be the opposite of heaven; so in heaven there will be no evil, in hell however there will be no good.

Just because one choose not believe in god, does that make that person evil? I could follow almost all the "guidelines" and still end up in hell. How can god punish us for putting our trust and faith in ourselves, so that we may better oursleves, but if we don't believe in him while we do that. We end up in hell and we are automaticly evil. Doesn't sound like a god I would ever worship or put my faith in. It sounds like a "god" that enjoys robbing people of the chocie that he initially gave them.

God does not delight in the death of the wiked since isn't it better that they repent. Sorry the verse goes something like that, I will not search it up right now since it I am too tired. Anyways the bible also says that all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. So if all sinned then that points out 2 things it's impossible to follow all of laws/rules it can't be done, the only way to God is through Jesus. Only if you believe in Jesus can you go to heaven.

Revan@ It still doesn't asnwer the main question I had, if a good person, that does good all his life and dedicate his life to being good, but doesn't believe in god or Jesus. Then he will go to hell too? This is were I don't see the point in religion, god punishes us for what our ancestors did, not exactly fair..

And doesn't it say somehwere that "God is Just"?

This is part of the reason why I like the new testament more then the old testament because in the new testament Jesus answers why only believing in God (the father) or only doing good isn't enought. Jesus said that who doesn't have the son doesn't have the father either and who has the son has the father also. Not exactly those words but something similar to that. So since everyone has sinned no matter what you do you still sin from time to time. So in answer to your question, a person who tries living a good life without God, is not saved. But why do you think that God isn't good if all he requires is people believing and trusting his Son that through Him they will have eternal life.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote
Headhunter128 Author
Headhunter128 - - 5,145 comments

Well, you just confirms for me why I don't believe "god" should have my faith. He wants us to repent, but if he is not willing to forgive us then what would be the point? And you say that it is Jesus that will forgive us on his behalf (If I understood you correctly) then it will never happen as I believe less in Jesus than god. I believe he existed, but not as gods son or on gods behalf.

If you want a perspective on how much faith I am even willing to put in their existence alone, then I would rather believe that they were aliens. Lol. Makes much more sense to me xD

Reply Good karma+1 vote
Ten10dix
Ten10dix - - 6,421 comments

Lol, Aliens would actually be more plausible then a perfect being that created the Universe.

Btw, if God created the Universe without Evil, how comes Evil entered it? I mean, how can something that never was created appear randomly in the Universe abd spread?

Also, this is how I see God:
God: Believe in me and you will be saved. Don't, and you will be sent to some really horrible place the rest of your life and get torutured for all eternity.

So... If a mass murderer believed in God all of his life (like the people of the Crusades, for example) would he go to Heaven? And contrarily, would someone who never killed anyone or never harmed anyone go to Hell for not beliving in God?

believing in God and believing God are 2 different things. I will let you figure it out and how it is different. also only believing in God will get you nowhere!! God sent his one and only son so that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. also when Jesus asked Peter who Peter thought Jesus was, Peter answered by basically saying that He is the God. so if anyone wants to be saved, no matter what they have done, all they have to say is 'God i believe that you sent your son, so that I might live and forgive me for my sins, i will follow you from now on.' there you go that's how easy it is!!! (i just made that up based of what i said and what makes sense) anyways when Jesus was being killed the 2 people that were on his sides were also sentenced to death, now one of the 2 didn't believe that he could be saved while the other believed that Jesus was God's son and that He could save him. so the one that believed was saved the one that didn't wasn't saved. i can't see what's so hard about believing God, i mean it can't be easier then this.

oh and satan's pride was the beginning of sin, and evil. i don't know why God didn't kill him, but i am sure he had his reasons why he let satan live.

To make things even harder now. Don't you know there is no such thing as good or evil? The very perspective of life we have been taught about good and evil does not truly exist. He can't combat evil because there is no such thing as evil. He can't help good because there is no such thing as good. So how do we tell if God does exists when neither good or evil exists?

No matter, I feel a little bit more secure if I do believe in god.

Another thing to combat skeptics. How do you know that God does not exist? Did you create the mathimatical equation proving he does not exist? Its the only way to tell if he does exist or not. You can't just come out tride and true saying God does not exist to everyone without actual mathimatical evidence.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

mathematical wouldn't be enough for me i would need scientific proof, to leave God, not happening you guys. as for what is good and what is evil? well humans were made so that they couldn't tell the difference, until the ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, that's when we began to understand what is good an what is bad.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote
Tover87
Tover87 - - 3,181 comments

There is no chance for any scientific data to come through to confirm that god exists. Just as through mathimatics it is strictly impossible because the equation would be far bigger then this universe and actually the entire Multiverse that is beyond this Universe. What exists out beyond the multiverse I wonder, more multiverses or nothing? Anyway back to my point. Making this impossible to confirm god exists or not.

They way I see it whether you believe in him or not you will see him when you die. It does not matter your religion. Through I see it though is that god represents himself differently to everyone depending on what they believe in, even if they are non-religious. That's what I believe in anyway and how I see things.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote
Headhunter128 Author

I agree with you Jolee that none of us can prove each other wrong, but when religious people use a thing like the bible and call it EVIDENSE. Then religious people are no better than the rest of us non-believers when we find things that suggests that fx the bible is man-made.

And if we see him when we die, why can I not wait untill then to believe? If I meet him and starts to believe in him, but then is sent to hell. That would conflict with the requirements for going to hell, or not being "saved".

There is also the notion of him turning his back n us, then why would he care if we believe or not?

As for good and evil. They does exist. If I think they exist, then they exist to me. It is the same with your faith. According to you guys god exist because you believe he does. Its logic, not science mates ;) So by saying there is no good or evil, then you conflict yourself when you at the same time claim god exists. Have you ever heard the term "Ignorance is evil"? It measn that by denieng the possiblility of something, you blind yourself from a potential truth. Denieng truth is welcoming evil to ones doorstep.

History have many examples of this. The Crusades was one of them. Evil was commited becasue that people denied the possibility that they may be wrong and to defend the safety of ignorance they sought to destroy those that could shatter it and deemed them heretics.

alright, there is a part in the NT where Jesus says to Tomas "you believed because you saw but blessed be those that believe without seeing"
it was something like that...but in the bible Isaiah 40:22 says that the earth is ROUND!! we all know that people thought that the earth was flat until like the 1500s or latter. but why did they think that the earth was flat even thought the bible said it was round? this isn't new it has been around for about 2500-3000 years! then the bible says that blood is life and scientist found that out in the 1950s or may was it 1850s. anyways point is that the bible has information that has been around for a long time, but people have been ignorant of it.
i agree that we cannot prove either point, because God is invisible, we cannot see him and if we did we would die from his holiness. in science there is a rule that we cannot observe what we cannot see.

Sorry Revan, the Greeks figured out the Earth was round sometime in B.C.E. (Before Common Era).

All religions all contradict eachother which makes me always think about God. As I said, no one can prove God exists or whether we just fade away out of existence at the end. Personally, I see why people created religion, we all want to believe that there is something at the other end after we die. We don't want to fade out of existence.

Now to the question; why were the Crusades commited? The Crusades were commited because once again religions contradicted eachother and the Pope couldn't stand Islam being in Europe and in Jerusalum neither could most people either. Thus the crusades began, because of serious differences between two different cultures. It was not by word of the Lord that the Crusades began as most people would claim. It began due to contradictions of other Religions.

The word of the Lord is rarely ever truly heard. Must I point to different religious relics including the Shroud of Turin. They have found proof that it did exist in the time of Jesus and that it the Face is actually from a real person. The way I heard was that some type of energy had to be focused to create that Image. We never had that type of technological means to do so and we still don't.

Also I can present to the three young children who claimed to witness the spirit of Mary, in 1917 Portugal. Each were given one prophecy, each correlated to future events and were written down in 1917 never to be opened untill the events began to pass. The last one is what I remember the most. Remember when Pope John Paul the Second was shot? After he recovered he opened that final prophecy and found out that a man would attempt to kill someone in white robes. As you can see, he believed it was him, since it correlates to him being fatally shot in St. Petersburg. Can you dismiss these facts?

Never said is was the word of the Lord. And I'm quite sure that "Couldn't stand" was closer to fear of being pulled out of his little dream world.

I believe the key word is "claimed" :p I do not know of them and even if I did I would still not believe them. "A man would attempt to kill somone in white robes"?? Rofl.. Of course thats going to happen at some point. The fact that it was him could just as well be a coincidense or maybe he told someone that then believed that it was their duty to forfill that prophesy. And there is those kind of people in the world. But I already know the religious answer to "coincidenses".

You want a prophesy? -Sometime in the future we are going to have another war- There you go, now I expect all of you to worship me when it begins XD It's easy to predict the furture on certain points.

Religion have been manipulated sooo mnay times by mankind for me to trust in anything that according to them is th will/word/intention of god.

Revan@ Science have also proven that what you don't see what you don't want to see. You should not trust your eyes, they can fool you.

As for the bible, there is more than one version out there. I am still looking for my source, but I assure you, the chnaces of the bible we have today of being the "original" is slim. there have been to many corrupt religious leaders for it to be that.

now i try using the KJV of the bible, but i agree that there are variations of the bible. also God has given me a lot of things, basically i can ask him for whatever i want and He gives it to me. (i asked Him for a good graphics card and a while later (a few weeks, at the most) i find a 'ATI HIS HD 6870' on sale for $160; normal price was $210. i rounded the prices but it was about that, anyways that's not the point, the point is that I believe that the GPU was on sale because i asked God to give it to me; I know that half of you here will say, "It was a coincidence, pure chance, nothing else!" but i disagree with you. i mean what are the chances for that happening? also i forgot to tell you that when i was asking God i particularly mentioned that i would like to have a GPU that was within budget, a Ati HD 6850 or 6870, but i would rather the 6870. i only wanted it to be cheaper.

so now how about this test: ask God to reveal Himself to you, (ie ask him to give you a sign of some kind. so you could like ask him to make it snow, rain the next day if there is no rain, snow forcasted. or do what someone in the bible did, 'put fleece -don't know if i spelled that right- outside and ask God to make the ground wet and not the fleece, and vise-versa) but actually have faith don't just go like 'oh sure this will happen' but actually have faith then tell me how it went:)oh and at least wait 1 day.
