Since i am a huge fan of Illwinter Games, i try not to be too biased about this.
The graphics are better than Dominions 3, but won't impress if you are a polished graphic and effect loving gamer. The sound also offers more to listen to and doesn't urge you to play the game muted.
The Gameplay is rather different than Dom3. Since i didn't play CoE2, i can't argue if it improved or not.
If you expect deep optimization of unit types and endless management of your casters to spent you resources on the summoning of very specific creatures, this won't happen.
You will never have enough resources, never have that many casters, which are a rather important resources themself.
Summonings for most races/classes are random, same applies to recruiting options for commanders/casters.
Also, the punishment for losing battles is more severe. No fleeing units, and if they do and you lose, they DIE. Every lost battle hurts.
It can be a challenging game, like all Illwinter titles i know, but you will never complete a game and be able to say: "So, I beat the game for good." And even if you do, check out the modding section of the forum.

Fast paced retro jump'n'run(on the ceiling)'n'jump'n'run(on the floor again). But Music gets really annoying and you lose orientation easily (perhaps this is designed that way).
A game that will end in total oblivion. If it doesn't, you are not playing it right. Can also be seen as a "Fallout"-prequel.
Just joking. Or not.
Best challenging tower defense game you will find. Period.
Its a fun game. More than fun. It's the best roguelike dungeon crawling game with more parody elements than you can count. And on top of it: Huge Eyebrows. Graphic is desirable low end.
