bots for it?
Is this still going, or is it the same as the 18.XX project? I think a lot of fans would love to see a Freeworlds with OSP or at least the ability to run a populated (ai) local server if at all possible.
Is it possible to run a local server and have the OSP feel at least? Sorry to hound you, I just don't play MP but would love to play this. I have the old versions with OSP, I think 1.5 and 1.6, they're just very empty.
I'm definitely tracking this one! I don't have SC2, but I will buy it the day this comes out. Warcraft has been one of my favorite game franchises since Warcraft: Orcs and Humans came out, I own or have owned every single Warcraft release including those horrid map packs they used to put out for WC2. Thank you for what you're doing with this and please see it through, no matter how long it takes =D
I literally die a little bit inside as each day passes awaiting this epicness =D. Not a rush post, just an encouraging one! I truly can't wait for the full release, or at least the ability to run a local server and check out a star system or two. Even the demo is truly amazing and the work you guys are doing here is just awesome. Thank you for what you've done and will do with this mod, which is already my video game wet dream since I was a small child.
I just wanted to say thank you for keeping this game alive. I first played it at release and played it non-stop for years, well actually until 2005. I was playing it online competitive (CAL, TWL, ect.) until Enemy Territory came out, and even still continued until it eventually got very difficult to find a good server. Easily one of my favorite games, but it always lacked any good mods. There were a lot of skins and such, a lot of maps for MP, but nobody ever really released a solid SP mod. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the new release and all your hard work!
Ah! I'm late, but not too late =D. Thanks for the new release, I can't wait to get out there and sink, rob, steal, plunder every ship I see!
Any chance that this would ever have a SP version? It looks frakkin awesome, I just don't play MP = /
Sorry, I don't speak/read German, will there be an English translation?
Can't wait for it!
Awesome! This is the best news I've gotten in some time =D Keep it up and don't get discouraged. I think maybe a lot of followers are checking less frequently, I know I was only maybe once a month. This is really awesome tho, seriously thank you guys!
I see it's open source, does that mean I must have Freespace already to use this mod? Or is this mod stand alone?
That's unfortunate = /
There were too many problems to describe, each time I would find a solution to the last a new one would show up. It was mostly my inexperience with Freelancer. Though I have owned the game since release, I have only tinkered with a few mods. All of which only required double clicking on the .flmod and activating in flmm. Some of it was my carelessness or negligence, others were just the blight of windows 7 64 bit. I find that any game older than around 2006 on that system will plague you with issues. When I want to bad enough I'll figure it out, it took me around 14 hours of messing with it to finally get CF working. Not only did I get it working, but figured out how to set up FL perfectly to have as many installs as I have mods and never have to reinstall it again (save for a HD wipe).
Star Citizen looks fantastic, unfortunately I think it will be too "sim" for my tastes and it appears to be online only. I enjoy sims, but being an old man of 30 with a career, wife and child it's tough for me to devote too much time into one game. While I would never condone dumbing down a game to suit a casual gamer, I just thought that Freelancer had the right amount of sim while keeping the gameplay fun and accessible. I love the controls, probably one of my favorite aspects of the game. While it was fun playing games like Tie Fighter with a full joystick setup and all, I don't own a joystick anymore for a number of reasons (space, four year old finding it fascinating, no money to get a decent one). Star citizen would be perfect if they took away the mmo aspect, or at least made it optional, and gave you the option for Freelancer controls.
That is effin amazing!
I forgot to mention, I really wish they would hire your team to make Freelancer 2. It's unfortunate that they abandon this game, especially since it's going on over a decade while still having many dedicated players. I really think your team with make a proper and epic sequel to this game.
I wanted to post a new comment since my last one was just complaining about my inability to get this mod working.
I have to say that in all my time playing different games and having a serious interest in mods that this is by far one of the best mods I have ever played. At first I wasn't sure about it, that it didn't change much of the original game and all of that. After playing it I understand what you mean by that and it is completely refreshing. This truly is Freelancer 2 and an expansion pack or two! Not to mention the graphical updates, I'm not sure how in depth you went compared to FW:TOW but Crossfire is absolutely beautiful. It's difficult to go back to an unmodded Freelancer after playing Crossfire. From the different effects of weapons and explosions to the entire universe itself.
There is so much content that this could be the only mod one would need for this game. Two things I have to also comment on are the neutron star and the Sol System. I have always been interested in neutron stars and to finally see one portrayed in a game that I can inspect and interact with is amazing. Since the first time I played Freelancer I thought about how much potential the game had for making me truly feel as if I'm traveling in space, the one issue was the size of the planets and the systems themselves. The Sol System truly feels like the closest thing you could possibly have to an actual to scale solar system. I can't describe how awesome it is to explore the system and just take in its beauty.
Take care, keep it up, and again I want to thank you for this fantastic product you have shared with us and your hard work to create it.
Got it fixed. = ) It took countless hours of searching and trying different things, but in the end I got it to work and found a way to have as many installs of the game as I want with every different mod. Just copy and paste my fresh install, on patched version and one unpatched version. I have an alienware that I got about six months ago, storage isn't an issue for me. =D
I would love to try this mod, unfortunately no matter how many times I install it it just won't work. I can run as an admin, compatibility mode, reg cleaner with fresh install, just doesn't matter.
I fully agree, I don't play multiplayer at all. Unfortunately there are so many mods that I would love to try, but if it's multiplayer only I don't even download.
I started playing space sim games on Tie Fighter (on floppy discs lol). I was very skeptical of the mouse and keyboard control system when I first read about this game, but I saw some very good reviews and there wasn't a really good space game out since XvT and decided to give it a shot. TBH I am so disappointed that it is the only game to use this control system. I would love to be able to play every space game with these controls. I would say at least download the demo version and give it a try, that is if you can even find a full version of this game anymore.
I would say go with normal maps unless you can really get a good system working for the space/ground maps. I tried out the maps that let you transition in the map and, while they did a hell of a job working with the BF2 limitations, it didn't work that well. I'd rather see very well executed space maps and very well executed ground maps.
Still alive? I really hope so, I played what you released so far and it's truly epic. Funny how you guys did what I've always wanted Capcom to do, instead they keep disgracing the legacy.
On a side note, I play just by myself with bots. The bots just jump around in circles the whole time, as if they don't have any way points or anything. They don't really even shoot anybody, just jump in circles shooting at the floor even on nightmare difficulty. Is there a way point pack out there or anything to improve this?
