Please post on the bug tracker if you're having an issue. If you're using an ati card, go into the settigns app and disable bumpmapped water and that will probably fix it for you. Bugs.evolutionrts.info
Thanks! :-) Lemmie know if you have any ideas how we/I can make it more fun, etc etc!
Haha, well the evo dev team consists of 2 people. kaiser, who does all the models and textures for units, and me who does everything else. So yeah, one man effort more or less (don't discount the models/textures tho, that stuff is a LOT of work!), however, I have had tons of support from the spring community. So yes, more or less 1 or 2 man project, lots of work, blood, sweat and hot blooded man-tears. Also, this game accidentally about 4 years of my life lol :-)
It is it's own game now :-)
If you are an existing spring user, you will have some trouble upon first run because unitsync refuses to stay in it's own folder so it will index every spring map you have. The game works fine, jsut the initial run of the lobby or settings app will take a while because unitsync is essentially indexing all your maps into a new archivecachev9.lua
The next release of the engine will solve this issue.
So yeah, just a heads up. :-)
Well to some extent we all get shaped by our opinions. I myself have found that even the Same gfx card developed by 2 different manufacturers can be worlds apart. I suppose the moral of the story is that **** happens.
Hmm the driver crashes are odd. Make sure that there is proper cooling in the case. Also it wouldn't be a bad idea to get custom drivers from guru3d (that goes for ATI owners as well). The dump info from the driver crash will tell you why it crashed tho.
Addressing you in particular, you probably won't have any issues if you have a decently powerful card. Thanks to brink, ATI really had to get all of their Crap into one sock, which is good for everyone. If you have any trouble, just ask in the lobby channel. Someone can probably help get you going (that someone may very well be me Hehe).
Dude... just let it finish.
It's worth noting that I don't mean to sound rude, but as a developer that has to continually deal with ATI's lack of proper OpenGL support, you can imagine that ATI makes me quite irritated.
Wrt ATI blanket claim... ATI makes awful drivers when it comes to opengl support, there is no denying it, as it is a widely known fact.
Regarding the 450GTS, it isn't a driver crash. Tell him to clock the card back to regular factory specs (in other words, undo the factory overclock) and it will behave normally. How do I know this? Because I have a 450GTS and had the same issues. I came from a 9600GT.
Wrt drivers, it is also widely known and non-disputable that nvidia makes the best drivers. It isn't possible to claim otherwise with a straight face.
The newer ATI cards have less issues with OpenGL.
Evolution RTS is open to anyone to install and play. There was a mixup where it was released way too early, but it was remedied pretty shortly thereafter.
Yes. Tasserver.jar in the install directory. Kinda silly to use the lan server tho when you can just use the main server for whatever you wish. That is to say, you can do anything on the main server that you could do with a lan server with a lot less cpu load on one of your own machines.
Of course, in a twist of irony, the main lobby server decides to go bonkers today. I'm sorry guys, it should be fixed soon (I don't actually have anything to do with it, but I know that it's being worked on).

Yes, very yes :-)

You'll probably have the best luck with getting a quick reply by posting on our forums (no need to register, just join using your google account) at Forums.evolutionrts.info
************* site ate my post edit. I am posting from my phone so this will be short. Intel integrated chipsets are generally intended to support programs like word and PowerPoint, not 3d games. You may be able to run the game at lowered settings, but integrated chipsets are almost universally awful for gaming and Intel and ATI have even worse OpenGL support in their drivers (see brink for prime example) so your mileage will most definitely vary.
Basically, you are using the wrong spring version. There is a version later than the one you have. I can't explain to you how much better off you'll be by waiting for the desura release.
It's a full fledged game... How did you mis that part? Also, it isn't a "mod".
Did you watch the vids, look at the screenshots or go to the website?
If you enjoy Total Annihilation (God knows I did... Played TA to death), make sure to check out Evolution RTS! It's not available on Desura yet, but it should be soon, and it's Free!
P.S. Also, who the heck grabbed these screenshots? Most of them are from mods, not OTA :-(
Notice I also added some new images and videos and crap in the past few days.
Maintaining indiedb/desura pages in addition to the website is a pain in the ****, but meh I guess I'll live.
I'm hoping that we can have a ready to go version on desura in the next coupla days, but then it'll be up to the desura guys to approve (I doubt there will be any trouble... we've put a LOT of work into streamlining stuff).
Anyway, so yeah :-)
MODDB admins please delete this or at least remove it from the list of mods that use the spring engine. It is dead now, but it did use illegal/stolen content from atari and while spring as an entity can do little to stop use of something like that, we do not condone it.
It is a widescreen video. I recorded it at 16:10 (my native res is 1920x1200) and when I encoded it at 1080p, adobe premiere chopped off the extra 60 pixels on the top and bottom.
Well I had written a HUGE comment, then realized that it only allows for 2000 characters.
It is similar to both in certain aspects, but completely different in other ways. For example, as a newbie the game will not punish you for tiny mistakes like in sc2. Your armies are more or less unlimited in size. The gameplay and graphics are phenominal. Features a dynamic cover system (that is if the game sees map features a vegitation for example, your units will game stealth from radar). Dynamic unit damage textures (I haven't finished implementing this yet, but it will be there soon). Incremental updates happen often, so if there is a bug or an exploit, it gets fixed generally within minutes instead of on a monthly patch cycle or something silly like that (blizzard, I'm staring at you.). Each tech has it's own special abilities and weaknesses (eg, hovers go over water, have a very robust unit diversity, amphibious units are very fast and are stealthed from radar, all-terrain units have the ability to cloak (including the factory), actual physics system, beautiful weapon effects and textures, etc etc etc.
Suffice it to say, you WILL have a lot of fun playing this game. :-)
Yeah, I know :-(
No need to pm them.
The min specs that you need to run the game with all the bells and whistles on (not including dynamic water... seriously, dynamic water doesn't even look as good as bumpmapped anyway...):
3 ghz dual core cpu
4 gb ram
Nvidia 9 Series video card (or ATI equivalent, but ATI hates OpenGL so your mileage may vary)
^^ those will allow you to run the game with the normal maps, shaders, bumpmapped water, reflective units, shadows, etc... Basically, the game can't get much better looking that what you can get with those settings.
Lowest I would go CPUwise is a 2 ghz, and if you have an older series nvidia card you can get a pretty decent framerate by disabling some of the more advanced graphics stuffs. If you have an integrated video card, you can prolly run it on the absolute minimum settings, but no guarantees.
Oh but there are flamethrowers as well :-)
Most of the bots are *A only. If you are playing BA, then try using RAI or KAIK. AAI usually doesn't work all that well.
Epic winsauce detected!
Do not download this ****. Old version is seriously old (lol2008?). Go to Springrts.com for the newest version.
Very cool smoth, can't wait to see the new version in action. If what I've seen in the sauce is any indicator, epicness will ensue ;p
May I have an invite as well? I've been following this project for a while now and am really anxious to see it in action.
Guild Wars can only connect to one server, and everything that matters is stored on the main server. The only thing the user ends up with on his comp is assets.
