Even so it's still a bit of a nightmare due to the way the engine is set up. I have tried in vain to use cde and koshi tried using erlang to get a dep free build of the engine (and by dep free, I mean packing it all in the executable).

Here is my beef. All I care about is supporting ubuntu and ubuntu derivatives. Unfortunately, the engine devs do not see it that way and basically want to support everything debian (and other distros as well).

For example if the following distros were supported I'd be happy:
Ubuntu
Lubuntu
Kubuntu
Xubuntu
Linux Mint (my favorite)

The problem is, it isn't that easy, and tbh I'm kinda burnt out on it.

Because packaging for linux is extremely difficult. Linux' allergy to "Dependency Hell" makes packaging the engine + lobby + settings program very difficult. Moreover there is the fact Debian has somewhere around 50 different distributions doesn't help.

It is available for linux, but via different means. If you look in the Ubuntu Software Center you will find it.

Are you on G+? If so just run over to Gplus.to and make a comment or whatever. G+ is pretty much my live update feed that I use, and it's probably where I will be coalescing the writing/narration group.

Do you have any examples of work you have done (pm it to me if you don't mind). I'm not looking for real professionalism. It's not like indie can afford to be too picky, but solid English and grammar are of course a requirement.

That is very strange. What I need to diagnose is a screenshot (press f12 in game) and infolog.txt

It's possible that the install is bugged, but I'm gonna hazard a guess that your video card is an ATI, and ATI openGL drivers are lolterribad.

Anyway, you can find the screenshot in <whereveryouinstalleddesuraprobablyprogramfiles> \ commom \ evolution-rts \ screenshots
and infolog.txt will be in <whereveryouinstalleddesuraprobablyprogramfiles> \ commom \ evolution-rts \

I need to figure out some way to automate the process of infolog gathering. Use Pastebin.com to copy pasta the infolog. You should make this post in the help and bugs forum. This comments section is the wrong place for this.

I know nothing about this game, but assuming it uses OpenGL and you have ATI/Intel graphics, it may have somehting to do with your video card drivers (ATI/Intel don't make very good drivers).

Directx != OpenGL

Drivers mus have proper OpenGL support, and intel drivers do not. ATI drives also have awful OpenGL support. Clean commands are sent to the drivers, it is the driver manufacturer's responsibility to utilize those commands correctly.

Your built in card may have all the power in the world, but without proper drivers, that power is useless.

I never said integrated graphics wouldn't work. I just said that I'm not going to spend hours troubleshooting them, because it is always an issue with the drivers not having proper OpenGL support.

Buy Nvidia, and you won't ever have this problem with any game because Nvidia writes amazing and PROPER drivers. If your drivers are crapping out on you, you shouldn't be blaming the game devs that are using them correctly, you should be yelling at whoever is writing the drivers to stop being so lazy.

And yes, doesn't matter whether you are american or not, this is really really bad news for the entire world. The US is under the impression that they own the internet, and actually, we do own many very important parts of it. Up till now, the US could be trusted not to screw it up. At this point, I'm worried that that time has passed.

You have intel graphics (which I don't actually support, because they are awful video cards (and integrated video cards barely deserve the title...)

Anyway, try, once you get in game, press enter, and type:
/advmapshading 0
and press enter again. That will make things look awful, but it may work for you. I'm sorry, but intel graphics cards are quite horrible and lack decent OpenGL support.

Bad for you, you just hit a pet peeve.

Evolution RTS has nothing to do with Supcom. The gameplay is entirely different, the engine is entirely different, in fact, the only commonality that the 2 games share is the fact that they are both RTS games. Evolution RTS is very "Twitch". In a typical multiplayer game, players are throwing armies of units at one another within 2 minutes.

Inspirations for Evolution RTS are mainly Expand & Exterminate, Total Annihilation, and a Sprinkling of StarCrap 2, but it is entirely different from all 3 of them.

What tutorials? You mean the flash ones? I used Wink: Debugmode.com

I need your infolog.

Wrt map starting positions. They are there, but just not visible (this is an issue with the lobby, not an issue with the game or the map). If you notice, in the battleroom, on the map tab, you can set startboxes, starts before game (drag start positions around), random or fixed. All work. Never should the starting units end up in the top left corner unless you chose "Start before game" and didn't bother to drag the start markers around on the minimap.

Wrt unit stats, that part could be better, no arguments here. I'll see what I can do to offset the window that comes up. On the other hand, it seems a little odd that after space+clicking you wouldn't move the mouse at all. Not stating that as an excuse, just an observation.

Wrt game crash, can't reproduce. It's possible that your computer couldn't handle running the AI (although unlikely). If you could please get it to crash again, and then use Pastebin.com to post the infolog, I would really appreciate it. (Infolog is in desura/common/evolution-rts/infolog.txt )

This is not a help forum. This is a comment box on a newspost. What you have posted doesn't have anything to do with the news itself. In the future, please post bug reports here: Desura.com

or on the bug tracker.

Thanks for the feedback!

You have a bugged install. Desura must have jacked something up. Remove the game, then go into program files/desura/common and delete the "evolution rts" folder (this is to make sure that everything is gone and nothing funky).

Downloading via the lobby only works for maps. Sorry about the confusion.

Can you please post a thread in the forums? This is not the right place for troubleshooting.

If it doesn't work or is exiting with an error or something, I need to know.

Sometimes with old sp1 versions of xp, people don't seem to have some needed dependencies installed (unfortunately I dunno which ones they might be as I am unable to replicate the problem), which causes the updater to crap out (lobby will still load normally, just without the newest version).

I'm adding a new startup script which will update to latest (this already happens) and remove old versions when launching from within Desura.

Currently this is the only way to get it on linux (assumes *buntu/debian):

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:spring/ppa
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:evorts/stable
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install evolutionrts

afterwards you can run “Evolution RTS” from your Applications/Games
menu or launch “evolobby” via terminal.

Of course 64 bit is supported. It runs the same on 64 bit and 32 bit. It is a 32 bit application.

I don't understand how you got the impression that it wouldn't run on 64bit? My system is Win7- 64bit and my Linux partition (that rarely use because I favor working on a VM) is 64bit Linux Mint. Both play the game just fine.

I spent all day yesterday trying to get help from a linux dev wrt CDE ( Stanford.edu ), but had no luck. I'll keep trying though. As soon as I have a proper portable build of the engine, I'm set, but if I can't get any *nix help from the engine devs, it will be a much longer process. If you want to see progress or speak up and lend moral support, the forum thread on the engine dev boards is here: Springrts.com

I'm sorry this happened to you, but unfortunately the fact that you are setback so far is a result of your own gross negligence for proper versioning control. There is simply no excuse for not having your code in an svn or git repository.

Regardless, good luck to you all, and I hope that you have learned your lesson!

Wow, that's uberfucked. This is why I trolled the net hard for old sd7 versions of evo and made the ******* pull them down. I would be livid if someone disrespected me this way.

When I was lead dev of MyUPB, we had a jerkoff trying to do this. Little did he realize that we had a "Powered by MyUPB" section hidden in the code (in obvious plain sight, but you would have to read the code or... god forbid, search for "MyUPB" in the code to find it). He was trying to sell it. Thankfully, the company hosting/sponsoring us was even more ****** than we were and sicked their lawyers all over his ***. That made us feel at least a little better.

Sorry dude, you didn't deserve this. That guy needs to be taken out back and shot. Repeatedly.

It's in the process. Desura requires us to provide and maintain it in a way that is different from how we would normally do it on linux. Long story short, it's a process. Hopefully it will be available soon, but koshi had some IRL(tm) stuff to take care of so he couldn't do much with it this week.

So, in short...

Soon(tm) :-)

P.S. It's worth noting that linux is a market that I want to hit pretty hardcore, so don't get the impression that this is a low priority. In fact it's quite the opposite and is very high on the list.
