Played through and beat it and I have to say it was nicely done and of a quality I expect from you guys. ECHO was a neat concept, as well as the chargeable cube. It felt good to use both portals again too :p. Awesome stuff.
However, I did notice a few bugs:
- The menu images for Chamber 8 and 9 were the same.
- When using ECHO and holding an item with the right mouse click the particles emitted from the gun didn't seen quite right.
- When using ECHO, part of the cursor is not draw in the middle but a little ways up.
- When I portal-ed some light then removed the portal so that light no longer shone through, I could still charge my cube where the light had been; it acted as if the light had never gone away.
- When the chargeable cube is charged then thrown into water, the emitted light particle persists even though the cube does not.
- Not sure if this is one or not, but when firing an orange portal the projectile trail is blue not orange.
- If you load a game where you are holding ECHO then switch to the portal gun, the sprites on the portal gun become messed up.
Some of the above aren't major game play concerns but are strange nevertheless. Again, I loved it. Looking forward to UP!
I can quite often get distracted by pretty visuals. When I have finally gotten over the graphics I look at gameplay. If there is not gameplay then the game is really not worth buying. Graphics can only entertain so long.
The main reason I can't get anything done: I lose interest quickly. It bugs me everyday that I have ideas but no motivation. I have never gotten a game to a point where I could even really consider releasing it to try to get a group following for motivation.
Making games for other platforms than PC just seems like too much work. I mean, it would be cool to play something I make on an iPod Touch, but for now I just work for PC.
Ah, nevermind. I was using the old version with the patch so I tried downloading and installing the new full version of the mod. Now everything works fine.
I love this mod. The atmosphere is amazing, and when mixed with the music and dialogue... amazing.
Anyway, I am having an issue. The game crashes at the beginning of "finallevel2". I can't even load the map from the console without it crashing. If it was a specific part of the map I would be able to skip it with cheats, but I can't even load the map. This means I cannot beat the mod too. If anyone could provide any assistance, that would be great.
Besides this minor incovenience, however, the mod is still as scary as I remember.
Haha! I knew I recognized these textures from somewhere! They originated from ExitE from what I can dig up.
Anyway, I noticed that not everything that is shown in the picture is included in the ZIP. Sure, there are the VMT files for the portal gun lights and crosshair, but not the VTF which actually changes the texture.
Trivial error: you didn`t close a bracket in "Portal_2_Anims.vmt".
Also, I would have to agree with Hunterbrute; recreating those old textures seem next to impossible. They seem a little too complex in the animation to me, and I would have no idea how one would do the closed portal texture.
Still, I love to see people messing around with the portal texture system. I hope it keeps up because I would love to actually have those old textures!
I'm PC here. Most of the Indie games I follow are PC, I make PC games, and I spend so much of my time on a PC.

The portals in the first screenshot are nice and colourful and do work.
However, I feel that the second screenshot has colours that are more close to the trailers and official shots I have seen, and they seem to fit more with the environment. They also seem to look sharper too.
I've been looking all over for something like this! I tried months back to try to change the DX9 portals into the DX8 ones, which is when I realized that the two use a totally different texture system and gave up. I could not for the life of me figure out how to do it due to my lack of knowledge. The lack of documentation with focus on the portals didn't help either. Thank you very, very much!

And I thought the pictures were stunning... I almost cried during the video. The way the rocks shine, how the light was reflecting off the water and onto the rock, the water effects and shaders, and... the waterfalls were just stunning. There is a huge difference between the old, bland, brown caves and the new, living, colorful caves. I am really impressed. This is going to be freakin' amazing.
The "paler" orange looks much more accurate. The skins actually look really good against the Portal 2 textures, but I am sure they look much better on the original. I think this is the closest you can get, considering the quality and availability media with this portal design in it. You've done very well!

I'd love to attend one someday, but for now I watch them online. This was actually the first year I cared. Last year I didn't know what a video game conference was. Watched E3 through Kotaku.
Portal doesn't have a sequel... yet...

I found the files to your test chambers a few months ago on myApertureLabs (thanks to your YouTube channel) and loved playing them. The atmosphere was very unique, yet I felt that it still worked with Portal. Those challenges were fun, but at the same time hard enough to almost rip my hair out (Chamber 05). Still, I enjoy playing them over again. I love the idea of the time trial maps.
I was really surprised when you decided to put it into a mod, but at the same time very excited, and immediately started tracking it. I can't wait to see what else this mod introduces! Keep up the good work.
