It's hard to judge this mod fairly, as all we got in the end of a turbulent development was a buggy alpha build, but I can say for certain that ExtinctCity was hard for me to finish.
The levels are poorly built in terms of level design and gameplay, which just wasn't fun.
Some corridors were too low to walk through and dozens of zombie simply spawned in front of me! Navigation was also hell, with the brushwork and props pulling at my sides like vines and halting my pace at every turn.
Extinct City never had much of a chance to see a beta release, who knows, we may have gotten a more enjoyable experience. But as it stands, this mod simply isn't fun to play :(
While it is fun to play through, there really isn't anything original to show, most of the assets have been cobbled together from other resources and the fact that saving functionality is broken is unacceptable.
At the state it is in, just play Missing Information :/
There is very little here, in fact, there is barely any gameplay involved.
Much of the mod is spent watching scripted events, which wouldn't have been so bad if the mod had more intuitive ways of "Accidentally" killing your targets.
Only give this a try if you truly are a die hard fan of experimental mods.
Eh... I've seen worse, still doesn't make this any good (Other then I hate greenpeace).
No story, not much effort put into mapping and overall, it's a just a bunch of unconnected kill boxes taped together.
Not worth your time :/
Well, if there was an award for a mod that has sent me into more fit's of F-bombs, Massive Attack would take the grand prize... yay...
Yes, the mod can be beautiful at times, yes, it's a nice break from a tropical island, yes, some of the maps have great action sequences and great scripting... but it's just so damn frustrating and obnoxious.
For starters, the mod jumps from Metal Gear Solid to AVP, Far Cry to Land of the Dead and hell, even Terminator makes a grand entrance. The story is hard to follow (Then again, the Metal Gear series have such absurd story lines I suppose it makes sense) and the cut-scenes are boring and incredibly long and tedious. And for every good level (I enjoyed the zombie and horror levels, especially the scene with the black ooze engulfing the hallway) there was a stupid, horribly built level.
Even with the patches that address the worst issues with the game, was that underwater maze level REALLY necessary? And many of the boss fights are incredibly one sided and punishingly difficult.
All the levels, good or bad, always revolve around key-finding. I gave up several times and just no-clipped my way through unlocked doors just so I could end this mess.
Many times I jumped from rating to rating, as some of the levels were well done, but in order to get to them you have to get through a swamp of terrible gameplay.
But considering all the pro's for this game, it's simply too frustrating for me to give it any more then a 2.
Really dull with very little combat and a story flimsier then a house with wafer cookies for foundations.
Your time is better spent elsewhere.
Simply put, I couldn't figure this mod out, every turn resulted in a crash and no matter what I did, I couldn't find my way past a few rooms due to getting lost or aforementioned crashing.
Ugh... I hated this mod.
Why would this man go to such an extent to get his brother out of jail, I mean, slaughtering civilians and security guards at a bank just to get thrown into the slammer?
Overall, this is one of the very few mods I never finished, I just couldn't find my way out after getting the crowbar.
But, in hindsight, I didn't think I was missing much, the level design was ugly and boring, plus, the atmosphere was non-existent.
You know what's scary?
I've played worse.
But that doesn't change the fact that this mod was long, tedious and hell on my fingers.
I never want to see a 10-mile long hallway filled with nothing but crates for as long as I live D:
