I'm one half of Team2Bit, an indie video game studio developing 8-bit futurist titles for a variety of platforms. We are proud members of the IGN Indie Open House, a collective of independent game developers that work in the IGN HQ. Under the name TEAM FIST PUNCHER, we competed on and won the IGN/YouTube show THE NEXT GAME BOSS with our game WASHINGTON'S WIG, a sidescrolling platformer featuring an intrepid canine racing to return his master's wig. Our first major release, FIST PUNCHER, will be coming to Xbox and PC later this year.

Stay away from his jump kick and try to rely on special attacks (move done when holding the right trigger or R key). Throwing other enemies at him is also a good strategy. If you try to go toe to toe, I recommend throwing 3-4 punches and then retreating using the roll escape (second analog stick or O,P or ctrl,shift on keyboard).

At present, the game is local coop only. However, if we got on Steam, there is a much higher chance of us adding online coop.

Reminder on controls. The game is designed in XNA and Xbox controllers are recommended. However, the game does support keyboard input as well. Here are the keyboard controls:

Arrow Keys - Left stick (Movement - double tap and hold left or right to run)
Space - A (jump)
1 - X (punch)
2 - Y (kick)
3 - B (grab)
R - Right trigger (hold down to perform special attacks)
A - Left trigger (defend)
O,P or ctl,shift - left and right on Right Stick (use to do quick roll escape)
Tab,Z - Left and Rght bumpers (move through characters on Player Info screen)
Escape - Start (access Start and Pause menus)

For those with USB controllers, we do have it on our long-term list of features to add (we're only in alpha so many things are still going to be added to the game). In the meantime, simple apps like JoyToKey can be used to map the keyboard controls to a USB controller:

Thanks for the question. At present, you cannot fullscreen in the Alpha. We originally planned for the game to be an Xbox release so resizing or fullscreen wasn't needed. It's on the list of features that we'll eventually get to later this year for PC.

We're hoping to have a demo in the near future. If it's any help, the game was written in XNA so other 2D XNA games might be a good reference point for what's needed to run Fist Puncher.

Thanks for the question. The final game will have several modes:

-the main story or campaign mode that is turned on now - this is the main game

-a casual mode where you can work through a set number of levels with infinite continues and not worry about leveling up or cutscenes

-a competitive survival mode with friendly fire where you battle to be the last-man-standing

- a group survival mode where you work as a team to last as long as possible

Great input! Sounds like you're thinking right along the same lines that we are.

Pre-order Fist Puncher now and download the alpha version TODAY! Pre-ordering will give you access to the alpha release and all future versions of Fist Puncher. We're aiming for a wide release of the final version later this year, but if you get the alpha now you can give us valuable feedback about the final version and support the development of indie videogames. The alpha is far from complete (20 levels, 6 playable characters), but it should give you a nice taste of the kind of pixel bashing joy that Fist Puncher is known for. Thanks!

Several of the characters are based on real-world people (some famous, some not). With Dr. Karate is was more of an accident. We liked the idea of mixing two somewhat disparate talents (Karate and Surgery). The facial hair was actually more inspired by the fact that we're stereotypical bearded indie devs. Mix it all together and he came out looking a bit like Chuck!

We're at PAX exhibiting now, but we'll be putting together a demo once we get back from the show. It will probably include a subset of the playable characters (there are 14 total now) and the first few levels (they're are about 50 total levels at present).

Hi gang! A new Beta version of Fist Puncher is now live. We've added lots of content including new playable characters, new levels, new bosses, a new overhead map, more cut scenes, card unlockables, and a fully hooked up attribute and perk system tied to leveling up characters. One important thing, if you already played the previous version, you MUST START A NEW GAME. We changed the save file so previous games will not load correctly. Sorry about that.

PAX Prime is just around the corner in game-friendly Seattle. We’re excited to announce that we’ll be there demoing Fist Puncher as part of the Kickstarter Arcade. We’ll be joined by several other successful Kickstarter alums (more details later about who will be joining us) as we show off our projects and talk about our Kickstarter campaigns.
