It will be a multi-player based modification at release with no support for AI initially. This means, to play the mod you must have access to Relic Online, which to connect to requires you to update to the latest version of the game regardless of the edition of the game you have - Company of Heroes, Gold Edition, Opposing Fronts or Tales of Valour.

So yes, it should be compatible with the Gold Edition if you are updated to version 2.602 (I think that is the latest patch - correct me if I'm wrong).

Haha who told you that? No its been in development for quite a long time though. You should also bear in mind that there was an older modification that was called Fortress Europe too. I had been playing EIR for about two years before this was started - that should give you an example of how wrong your informant is. :)

By "bogged down" he means exactly that, we have new criticals that cause heavy vehicles to get bogged in rough terrain. There are a lot of gems like this that will make Fortress Europe a lot different to vCOH. Imagine running heavy tanks and having to worry about trying to stick to roads etc.
