The title does not imply I'm going to update this as more info because available, I simply don't care that much. Anyway, onto the rant.
DICE WHAT THE SHIT ARE YOU DOING?
Sticking with EA is going to murder your game. EA is being childish about their predicament with Steam. "When a download service forbids publishers from contacting players with patches, new levels, items and other services - it disrupts our ability to provide the ongoing support players expect from us. At present, this is the case with only one download service."
This is what they said about Steam themselves. Now in layman's terms they're saying Steam doesn't let them support their games properly, they're only saying this because they're essentially butthurt about being allowed to release Crysis 2 on Steam but selling the DLC on their own Origin. Thus, steam removed Crysis 2 from the store because what EA was trying to do didn't fit in with the Terms and Conditions of Steamworks. Not to mention the fact it was insanely greedy, selling the DLC seperate so EA got all the money.
Once more of the release info was, uh, released, it was found the game wouldn't appear on steam. Well technically it just wasn't on the list of digital distributors which was later removed. This doesn't definitely mean the Battlefield 3 wont be on Steam but that's what it appears to be. It's confirmed to come out on GamersGate, Direct2Drive and EA's Origin. See, the problem here is EA are actually going BACK on their money whoring strategy. Steam control some 75% of the digital distribution market, not releasing it there means they might very well lose money. Har har. Wait a second, this means Dice will lose money too, the ones that actually put the effort in making a game while EA sat in a headquarters made of money. God damn it.
Okay that's enough of my rage over corporate stupidity.
*ahem*
DICE WHAT THE SHIT ARE YOU DOING?!
You've not released the mod tools for you game because they're "too complicated"? At least have the courtesy to tell the community the truth. The real reason you haven't released them is because you're lazy. It's not that it's too hard to "dumb them down" it's because you're too lazy to make them usable without releasing all the game source code and making it so anyone can see how the engine works making it more simple than a redneck to hack. Part of me wants to believe you aren't actually lazy though and have a different reason. Maybe a reason made up of two words and beginning with the letter `e`. Yep you guessed it reader, Electronic Arts! My guess in their quest for more money EA are pushing Dice to release the game before they can get everything they want done, so instead they have to do everything EA wants. This can be backed further with the day 1 DLC that's been announced. Either it's A) EA clawing for more money or B) content that wasn't finished in time to be implemented into the actual game. So once again, EA is murdering your game.
Okay honestly, my rage about corporate stupidity is over. Honest.
DICE WHAT THE SHIT ARE YOU DOING?!?
You're making a dedicated single player campaign? For a game franchise that was spawned from multiplayer? Did you know the Bad Company 2 campaign was quite a half-arsed, american propaganda campaign? Of course you do, you made it. I don't care if you're putting more effort into this one. Why are you bothering anyway? Stick to trying to make the game as great as BF2, or maybe if you're up the immense challenge, as good as BF1942. Neither of those games had a single player storyline, nor were they released on consoles. They were still great. My guess is, once again, the long term effects of EA are kicking in and causing you to put all your effort into making a good money maker rather than a good game. I'm sorry, I'm not done with corporate stupidity, it just annoys me so much.
So what have we learned today? Dice are stupid and/or lazy and EA are money whores.
-Edit
DICE WHAT THE SHIT ARE YOU DOING?!?!!?
What in God's name is this? Facefield? Are you honestly trying to turn Battlefield 3 into a social networking site? I don't even know WHAT the fuck is going on anymore. Although a theory by a chap named Scrobes down in the comment section of the article caught my eye. The theory is that DICE purposely put all these pictures and news tid-bits up then remove them ASAP just to see what the community's reactions to such are. It's possible they're scared that they'll be rejected like a socially awkward teenager. So they unveil a new feature, watch our responses then either scrap or develop their idea. Of course it's just a theory but it does have quite a bit of sense to it.
(inb4 "you said you wouldn't edit it", I lied.)
