NSCXP2005: no, there is no bot support. The work involved with creating the AI required to handle all the features of Dystopia would be a massive task, not something that we can hope to do as amature developers.

Undermine, Broadcast and Detonate are the three most complete maps of those currently in development for the Version 1 release. All of the others are still being tweaked and changed based on the feedback we recieve from our heavy playtesting.

To all the moddb staff: thanks for running such an awesome site.

I seriously doubt any member of our team would have responded like that. As I'm the guy who calls himself the "producer" I can absolutely say that I'd never have responded to your friend in this way.

I regularly openly discuss modding with anyone who approaches me in a civil manner. Generally I point new modders to Valve's developers wiki, as it's chock full of excellent info for aspiring modders. Particularly this section: Developer.valvesoftware.com

You've picked that one correctly; wired reflexes doesn't decrease the reload time of the rocket launcher. While this is purely a balance matter, it also makes sense in theme as the RL reload is a purely mechanical re-arming. Rather than relying on the user to manually reload :)

Good poll, interesting results and great discussion.

I just want to say that I'm damn glad we met up with GraFix at the Freeplay event where we held our first public showing of Dystopia. An event which I'm proud to say Moddb helped 4 Team Dys members attend.

I also wanted to put forward another job discription for the list; general gopher / tech guy.

You should have a chat to the HL2DM Pro guys before you go "supporting" DoD:S maps.

Because, like all other mods here on moddb, we used the percentage to show how far away we were from our first release.

From the player's side of it, of course regular releases are prefered. But with my experience being on the other side of the fence, as a developer I think it's much better to run closed beta testing until you have a stable update. This makes all public releases a higher quality which cuts back on the amount of frustration your players have trying to play your game.

The balance is that developers need to make sure that the most hardcore and active fans are involved in the closed beta. By having a closed test team filled with people who understand what "beta" means, removes a lot of the pressure on today's mod teams.

It can be very difficult for a mod team to be able to fill, organise and run a closed beta test team before their first release. With out the publicity of a first release, many mod teams find it difficult to gather an active and helpful pool of testers.

Dystopia was very lucky that we could rely on a collection of people from the Australia gaming scene who had known the dev team members from many previous online games. Not every team has this luxury.

When we started the project we set ourselves a target for the number of maps we'd have in our "full release". It was decided that rather than hold off releasing anything to the public, we'd release a "demonstration" version which contained less maps.

With out next major release we expect to finally acheive our map count target and thus will be dropping the word "demo".

It's still possible that a small Update 5 will be released, to fix any bugs or add small features. However, this would only be a code update to the binaries and wouldn't include more maps.

But never fear, we are slowly edging towards Dystopia Version 1. I'll be glad to be able to stop explaining why we used the word "demo", frankly I'm bored with the topic :)

dys-Fuzzy - - 82 comments @ Dystopia Demo Update 4 Released!

Firstly: what with us being the ones that made, we get to call it what ever we want.

Secondly: it's not a beta. We run closed betas. Our releases have been thoroughly tested and are only ever made public when we have squashed every known bug. Thus, not beta.

Thirdly: we continue to call it a demo because it's still a "demonstration" of our complete goals.

Honestly, we never expected one little word to generate so many comments....

And yes, it will always be a free mod for HL2.

Team Dystopia and our wonderful clsoed beta team have been putting in a lot of time on our development server, hammering away at the Release Candidate of Update 4.

I've just added a screenshot snapped during last night's session: Moddb.com

We still don't have an exact release date to announce, but it will be "very soon now".

I just wanted to "leak" the news that we're gearing up to release Update 4 for the Dystopia Demo. We've got a release candidate and we're currently giving it a few days of hard testing. If we don't spot any major dramas, this build will be released to the public.

No exact release date, other than "really soon now".

The "very soon to be released" Update 4 for the Dystopia Demo will be released over vapour (and normal web download, for those who haven't realised how awesome Vapour is yet).

As a mod dev, I reall have to say that the Vapour system is very cool and very simple to use to get your content added to the system.
