Well, when you are praising overrated shallow garbage like Half-Life, you are lacking intelligence.

That said, I am not a fanboy, I just like the first Deus Ex game. I am well aware of its flaws, too and am open to any discussion related to anything related.

If you're not a fanboy, you wouldn't be blind in your opinion. Deus Ex's story is just as simple. A game about going against the Illuminati? That's not interesting, that's cliché.

While we're on the topic of games with bland story, what about Doom? It had the most simplest story at all, you're just a space marine on Mars killing demons and heading to the exit. Yet it's one of the best classic FPS made.

Never did once in the game have Half Life got a single cinematic cutscene. I suspect you're the one who is lacking intelligence since how can a game be a "cinematic garbage" when said game doesn't even have any cutscene at all.

P.S Not a fanboy? Says the person with a Deus Ex avatar.

Wow, you are so keen on defending an overrated title which has **** game design.

Anyways, Deus Ex story (while being cliché) has complexity, depth, and techniques such as reactivity, choices & consequences, and interactivity used for storytelling, which Half-Life severely lacks.
You can convert Half-Life into a movie and it won't change one thing. You can even have the camera in FP view if you want, but you can't turn Deus Ex into a movie.

Doom wasn't about story. Video games are not about story either.
Gameplay separates video games from all other mediums. That said, Deus Ex gameplay is exceptional, while still flawed, but Half-Life on the other hand has garbage gameplay. I will accept that it's a bit challenging, somewhat, but its bad game design has inspired trash like CoD, BF, Crysis, and most modern 'games' out there.

About cutscenes, you are probably blind. The game does have cutscenes and uses many film techniques. Just because they are from FP perspective, it doesn't change the fact.

Meh, if I was a fanboy, I'd insult someone without proper statement, who said "DEUS EX IS **** GAME EVAR!"

I'm sorry, but I can only agree with you so far until you said Half Life had cutscenes. Because the definition of cutscene is a sequence in a video game that is not interactive, and breaks up the gameplay. The only thing close to it in the entire game is the intro, middle and ending.

Half Life uses scripted sequences instead of cutscene to convey it's synopsis. And I'm pretty sure all games uses both. Deus Ex included.

You're also going to need to show some evidence that Half Life inspired trash like CoD, BF. And don't forget, CoD and BF were once good series you know. That is until it became the cashcow we know today.

If you really want to blame a game for bad game design, blame Quake. All of the map in there doesn't even link up to each other and you're immediately put into the next one. Which is exactly like CoD and BF.

B-b-b-but Half-Life scripted events break the gameplay and pacing of the game. HL also places an emphasis on cutscenes and scripted events, which Deus Ex doesn't.

I am surprised you didn't comment on HL's level design or gameplay.

CoD and BF have always been garbage though, no complex gameplay like DX or SS2. About Quake, it's a tech demo.

This is off-topic, but had the crap called The Avengers (2012) came out during the time of (1940s) Citizen Kane and Casablanca, then there would be competition between them, just like how Deus Ex, System Shock 2, and Half-Life are compared, despite the last one being a crap game. Though, The Avengers would have limited CGI, SFX, and other stuff due to its time. In the same way, Half-Life doesn't have advanced cinematic stuff you see in recent FPS (and other genres) 'games'.
