Looks good! Nice simple style and cool idea's on the eating, it reminds me of a game I had for gamecube, Phantasy Star Online something something, you could feed a little robot you had with items and depending on the items stats were raised/lowered. Thought it was a fun mechanic so really liking the idea of seeing something similar here. :)

Do you guys forget that all of those Source licensed game seem to always end up on Steam, Steam is Valve's platform, they get like what? 25% of the profits? Ka-ching! It explains why the license price is likely to be negotiable and not insanely high, plus Valve seems to be a kind company...
Regardless, thanks to Steam sales, Valve makes a profit on top of the license and they probably weigh that in the license price.

Yeah I saw that in the video... what's the point of this telling us this though, I'm not even sure if every programming language will roundown integers when casting, but assuming they do, it's pretty much common knowledge you could find with google instantly.

That is actually kinda bad when I think about it... but barely noticeable, guess that's where part of the "fake" comes in.
As for the same amount of processing power... yeah I got that too from the video, why repeat all this information? Additionaly I find it hard to believe that it's the same amount of processing power, how did he measure that? What I would believe is that the processing power required for one object is so low, that multiple objects won't have a noticable impact.
Interested, but have to dissapoint you, since I'm not nearly dedicated enough, nor have my own PC available and logging that time is just not possible without. I'm wonder what humongus things you have planned to require 20 hours per week programming though.
Anyway, have you considered going to the UDK? I'd say it's biggest worry with that would be the server browser deal(assuming that's still an issue), but the bonus of being standalone would draw in more people(I hope :P)
Also idea: A semi tower defense kinda game, gardeners move along set paths to... gardeneer stuff, players have to strategically position themselves and set off traps and **** by their own suicides.

I can understand you are worried, I bought Spearhead myself half a year ago, so I'm worried they're not just gonna squander that money and never deliver, however:
It's not just the engine that costs money, think about a place to work and a team to pay, granted I am interested in how much they really need and whether they actually NEED that money, but they aren't exactly the only ones doing pre-order like stuff like this.
Overgrowth and NS2 also allow pre-purchasing to get the latest stuff, but these guys aren't as fancy in their PR(Overgrowth) or can rely on the popularity of a previous title(Natural Selection) and are just doing it slightly different.
Here people get multiple options on how much to spend, so they could provide some minor support now and when a release is looking more likely eventually upgrade later. Plus the stuff they've got is even playable for free in a different format.
It's doing it different, but in a way it's the same thing, I don't see why are you trying to flag them as untrusthworthy and scammers.
I'm worried too, but I'll just assume they aren't scammers and if there's no final product released, it's not because they didn't try or were doing a scam, but simply for reasons that even a bigger budget game can fail on.

late reply: Yep, including commercial use, the sound library it uses(Bass) was/is not free for commercial use though, but it can be disabled and replaced with your own/another sound library.

You have my respect sir, when I saw you dropped Calamity Fuse in favor of this, I was getting the reason for the move, but not seeing the potential of Digitanks, now looking at the new screenshot and how you are handling things though, I must say I'm starting to look forward to how this'll develop.
Also saw you mentioned Work in the second list item, personally I feel none of that as work, aside from the "grinding" of MMO's. My attention span can be shorter than that of a dog... so go figure :P I realize the potential of a long term game though, Mount&Blade for example did have my hooked, although since that wasn't an MMO, levelling was a lot quicker, but it still had a long term going over it.(albeit not nearly as long as the major MMO's out there)
Anyway, in general, working towards something when playing(and having fun) is not the same as "work" to either work towards something or just get through an area for example. When it's a fun filled process while "working" toward it, it's just playing with a toy and then getting new toys thrown at you, comparing it to the dog example.
I think all developers should at least ponder over this like you do, so they at least realize that you WANT to give the players new toys, while he's playing toys, not want to force him to learn a trick(or in game, go cleaning your oversized inventory filled with useless crap as if your mother screamed "GO CLEAN YOUR ROOM BOY" the moment it's filled and you can't get the good stuff anymore). Once the player gets bored of a toy, it's from then on the point he'll have to "work" which depending on a variety of circumstances including that player's attention span and "betterness" drive to name some, it could mean you lose that player, or at least make em wary of buying your next product(cough Mass Effect 2)
Anyway, looking forward to Part 2 and what Digitanks will turn into!

If you're just starting you'd normally just create a game instead of a mod and then find the Unreal Engine 3 as a mod you can't choose an engine so that's why it wasn't in the list.
Wreck seems to have upgraded their profile from mod to game fine since then, so it's possible. You should definitely try sending one of the ModDB staff members a PM or E-mail, they're very nice fellows and they'll inform you how to keep the profile but turn it into a game profile instead of a mod profile.

In the spirit of the pet suggestions, I'd like to suggest at least a rubber duck, with dinosaur like "scales/skin" and teeth. That is assuming the raptor will have a bathroom with a bath.

Hmmm well I haven't played this yet, but as it seems it doesn't have the same gameplay as TF2, so the only real thing to code is the gameplay wanted. Then mount TF2 to be able to use the models.
But maybe it doesn't work that smoothly, plus Steaky said he doesn't know any coding, he'd basically be asking for help when he's been well capable of doing it on his own. TF2 would be needed to play it both ways, so assuming the gameplay is fun, I'd say ít's a succesfull approach.

But yeah that's basically what I've done, the reach is extended alot to make it easier to grapple onto them, when the player is grappled on I set a networked Handle so that the client side can create the beam between the player and the mines.
Server side in the SecondaryAttack function I simply need to do some simple Vector math to create a pull direction, a bool is used here to check if it pulled already, if not it starts the player off with a 5x as strong pull to get them moving at a nice speed, from then on simply keep adding the standard rate of velocity every 10th of a second until the player de-grapples.
So you pretty much guessed it right! But like I said the mines aren't fixed, they have physics, they're currently a modified weapon entity that can't be picked up and overrides FallThink and FallInit to prevent it from spawning onto the floor instead of where it's put in Hammer.

TF2 is an orange box game, also Portal and HL2:EP2, HL2 and EP1 where in the Orange Box but aren't on the Orange Box so they don't count as Orange Box, regardless you shouldn't need ANY Orange Box game from what I can tell(unless it's being mounted from code along with the gameinfo.txt) assuming you change the SteamAppID to 218 and have the Source SDK Base - Orange Box(which you can get if you can get the normal SDK Base as well)
Right, the readme.txt claims you need an Orange Box game, however I tried using the Source SDK Base - Orange Box appid(218) and could play through the whole episode without ANYTHING being different then when HL2:EP2 was mounted, so either HL2:EP2 is mounted in code or there really is NO dependency on Orange Box games.
From what it seems, it's just like any other SourceMod that isn't mounting any specific orange box game content but is just on the Orange Box engine... you just gotta mount Source SDK Base - Orange Box, and ANYONE who can download the normal Source SDK Base can also download the Orange Box version of that! So dudes without Orange Box, do not pay attention to the readme! Go to the gameinfo.txt and modify the SteamAppId to be 218 and you should be able to play the mod just fine!

There were floating island in the sky, with flying boats(!), including sail, cannons and anything else you'd expect on a boat.

Apperently Campaigns can go far enough as to change models and script things to make it a real story like experience.
So you could say DBD will be a mod and it seems to want to be a mod, the real problem is whether it will deliver. NOT whether it's a mod or not, it's promising to be a upcoming mod, there really isn't much to argue about that. So it won fair and square, but chances are it will never deliver, which would be bad but there's no point continuing to be all negative about it.
The way I see it, DBD now has more reason then ever to make sure it delivers, or else there will be thousands of angry zombie fans :P

ehm I took a look at some pics of DirectX5, you are horribly wrong, but yeah most of the features are probably wasted on the game in it's current state, but this is just a first version, who knows how awesome it will look if more time was spent on level design and effects?

Well that's great, I've just heard from Henley on Podcast 17(live now) that you ahd some solid stuff going a few months back, so I'm starting to get pretty hyped into what those bigger plans were he mentioned :P
Like I've said though, some of my concerns and issues may have been "unfair", don't feel too bad about them, if you really have your stuff in order, I'll be trying my best to help with what I can reasonably do(I'm busy with GraviNULL after all). I'm also hoping to learn a few things from you, like how I learn about the potential of using the spoiler function.
Hmmm, that'd be a lot of things initially, even though most of them aren't entirely fair.
Mostly it's how awesome you make the mod seem, without having anything real to show for it(but this annoyance has now turned into interest :P)
The teaser as well, like I already seen someone say here or in the summary area, that could have been "faked" although I don't know why you'd do that, the effort put into this seems legit(then again, those fake tf2 updates looked pretty legit, besides being crazy, this isn't crazy though!)
I suppose there were a few other things, but I feel they're unfair after thinking this through, especially with knowing this little information.
On a more positive note, I've never seen that usage of the clicking of titles to reveal text on ModDB yet, I think that was an awesome way to present a lot of text to the players.
This newspost also made me think about using a similar way to boost popularity, in other words, pretty concept/promotional art, even if it's not really like that in game, it seems to really hype people for some reason.

Lastly, thanks for the congrats, it's not the first public release mind, the alpha came before it, but the beta marks a step where me and the team will likely be churning out some smaller updates faster :)
Well, I've been holding off on replying for quite a while, since in short in some ways I was kinda ticked off about this.
But after giving it some thought and talking with some friends, I feel interested in trying the closed beta regardless and seeing for myself whether some of the "claims" are really true or not.
I've been a very much hobbyist focused modder for the past 2 years now as well as having experimented with making my own game with two different engines so far.
I don't know how you're gonna be selecting candidates though, but I'm used to thinking things through and giving out helpfull constructive critiscm when needed, but I can imagine with a fairly sized development team, you may be more interested in normal games over other developers.
Anyway, that teaser doesn't really tell me anything, but it makes me curious what it is you're hiding after 1 year of work on this, because surely that's not all you've got and that's part of my motivation to try this out, I wish to see what it is that has kept you guys so motivated and confident about this mod.

It's not so surprising, you do realize Left4Dead had a crazy amount of advertising, probably worth millions, so 300 watchers is actually fairly low, considering the popularity they could be riding off, but clearly don't seem to be so intensely, if they were, they'd have alot more watchers I'd think.
Look at Moddb.com a "mod" which somehow beat the popular mod NeoTokyo in the race of Best Upcoming Mod of 2008.
Shearly by riding off the popularity of such a well known game.
And I may be stepping on toes again here, but hey, it's true, look at the rating, 5.2 out of 164 votes, clearly the majority that bothered to vote after it released thought it wasn't such a great mod after all. So I don't think I'm lying when I say it's popularity was merely riding off Left4Dead to make it to the "top".
Watchers aren't the best indicators of popularity, views and release ratings serve as a better indicator with watchers after that.
I'd say DigiTanks is still in too early a shoes to gain a lot of popularity, but keep working hard and show people what seperates your game from the rest and makes it worth giving it a try, I'm sure the audience will be growing over time.

He's never said anything about it not being up to his standards that I saw, maybe I missed something, if not, stop putting words in other people's mouths.
Maybe DigiTanks isn't that original either, but coming up with something completely new experience is nigh immposible these days, with most of the major and sub-genre's already being thought out. It does have some elements making it stand out from other games similar to it and that's what's important.
DigiTanks at least doesn't take the approach of taking a succesfull recipe and just that over again. I'm not saying L4Q is, since I haven't been following it, but there's plenty of games that do that **** and DigiTanks isn't one of them.

Either way, I got this game months back when it first released on Steam, quite the excellent game, I kept playing it on the "Normal" difficulty with Permadeath always on, I died like at least 50 times, having to restart with a new character from scratch each time and in the end beat it after 80 hours.
That's a lot of value for the small price it was then and still is now.
Not everyone will like the game enough to play that much though and without the permadeath you'll like complete it in less than 20 hours.
If you want a challenge though, Dungeons of Dredmor can offer it :)
You're free to think that, but as a fellow developer, I full well understand their desire to commercial, so I assure you that my problem was only with the way they hoped to achieve that, however they seem to have no wrong intentions, only good ones.
Still, there are other ways, harder ways perhaps but I can fully understand why they do it this way, especially after looking at the current gathered donations, since there are plenty of fans that fully support them.
I am in no way part of the "mods go commercial rage" group, if they can gather the required cash to purchase a license, then in my opinion they have every right to sell what they have spent hard work into to make.
I would like to partially apologize for what I said before, I still can't look favorably upon donations, but watching the video mflux posted, I can tell he at least loves the work he's doing and has every intention to keep the fans pleased, so I believe I owe them at least some more respect, they are just trying to do things right, while I do not approve of their ways, they mean well. So I'm sorry for that.
I still have to agree with Darthlex's point on transferring the PHAN thing to kickstarter, I don't see why it's not possible and it seems like a backstab move to me, perhaps it's really not possible but I really don't see why, so you can understand why I feel distrusting about that.

Well not all my goals are in video's, but it does show how devepopment progresses quite well.
Just be aware, you don't have unlimited arrows :)
But small goals, that's the way to go, achieving smaller goals working towards a bigger goal can be satisfying, while just shooting at a harder to hit goal will merely end up in frustrating failure, hitting targets along the way to it will have that gratification of hitting each target. (or most at least)
I use a similar approach, just take a look at my profile, the recent video's of the last 2 weeks I have there are part of a new hobbyist project, each time a reach a goal I set out(whether that's expirementation or not) I make a video to show it off and it feels good making progress like this.
Well that's your opinion, I haven't played the demo, but my opinion would be it's a perfectly fair price, it looks great, a lot of work went into it and I've seen worse games with crappier looks charge at least double.
I don't think I'll buy it, but it looks good enough to make me want it! But I'm not that into tower defense type games and I'd make me too distracted from my current development progress.
In a way I agree, in another way I don't, it's an alpha, but already the combat looks different from both what the mod was and Mount&Blade.
The animations just have a ... bad look somehow sometimes, but that was mostly before the frantic first person combat bit started then it looked great!
Previously this "sequel" of AoC never really peeked my interest, but this video got my interest, so definitely tracking, keep it up guys!

Hmmm, I think the games for UDK are actually listed as Games, not Mods, and instead of setting a game that they're a mod for, they set the engine to Unreal Engine 3. You could always send a PM to ModDB staff and they'll help you out :)

Afaik it is from Jailbreak though, they have a texture pack free to use assuming you place credits somewhere, so it's possible you've seen it in Dystopia.
There's an intent to have "static anchors" these could be attached to them.

I'd like to see it in game first before I cheer it on too much, I must admit it's a good concept for a weapon that fits the portal theme.
I learned the hard way, with a mod that was supposed to do the same thing, but I ended up wanting to do too much in the first release, so focusing on gameplay is purely my intent now.

Actually E.Y.E is a game on the Source engine, just like Zeno Clash and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic were, the line is thin, but the main difference is that it's stand-alone and costs money as opposed to mods being free and required the game they are modding.

This sounds awesome, I especially like the part of choosing NOT to promote, that's really something interesting, most games just think of progress only in the form of becoming more and more powerfull towards new jobs, rather then become extremely experienced at the same job.

I wouldn't say it's immposible, but replicating the Portal gun would be immposible to do, it won't end up the same however you look at it and will be considered a cheap copy, if you're making Portal style game with combat, try focusing on making a more a unique type portal weapon that can help make the combat more unique too.
Although you're probably gonna need more then just a mere coder, you'll need a skilled coder who has some experience working with Source.
Also if it's gonna be a HL2 mod, be sure to change the game it mods to HL2 instead of Portal :)

Oh what the hell I'll spoil it, the model is gonna be a Bowlingball, so you can't throw it very far, but you can seriously cause some pain by dropping it on someone's foot! Besides the initial exploding the resulting cluster bowlingballs are obviously launched out at high speed, meaning deadly heavy objects being sent in different directions, to make it even worse the deadly heavy flying objects explode as well... overpowered? nah there's actually a high risk factor of blowing yourself to pieces
(which happened to me while attacking someone who was AFK... the AFK guy lived and I died!)
that would still be a grenade and a not head on attack :P
maybe this is why FragOut worked better for me then my previous project... it has the constraint of only allowing grenade weaponry(not even mines, melee or anything like that, just grenades!).

I at first thought the heavy was useless too, but if you use him right he could in some situations be considered more overpowered then the scout, cause his bullet load ability thing is like a BACKSTAB that can be done in the FRONT at all times as well, DEADLY vs a scout, just use cover, get close then run up to his face and unload while pointing straight at him, if you're close enough there's no other aim needed, the burst of bullets can insta kill even the heavy on close range!
I also thought it was stupid the mod is being compared to tf2, the scout in tf2 has a bludy shotgun and piece of **** pistol, the scout in this mod is more like a sniper without the insane speed of the tf2 scout, I actually think the scout is just misnamed, because it's not really a scout, more like a sniper sort of thing as the scout is only good at long range.
So obviously your comparison with tf2 is WRONG, in there a Sniper will own a heavy from most ranges except close range ALWAYS, the scout in Decadence has a LONG RANGE weapon, face it, as a heavy you need to use cover rather then provoke the scout to snipe your ***, get over the fact that it's named a scout and realize it's a sniper, slow, close ranged classes obviously can't win a medium to long range fight against a sniper.

anyway it's not surprising so much hl2/source stuff made it, isn't Source one of the most modding supported engines? More developers seem to start making their games moddable though, but that takes time, so I think we're gonna see many more hl2/source mods before modders spread across more engines.
btw just so you know... I don't think ModDB is biased to hl2, even in editor's choice there were mods chosen from other engines/games, but like I said, Source is huge when it comes to modding, it's unfair to say ModDB is biased, there are just more mods for source and therefore more chance for them to be good one's.
Not to mention most mods can be played by just having 1 source game out of many available, that increases the playerbase of Source mods by ALOT, compared to UT3 for example where only UT3 would allow you to play UT3 mods.
lol, that made me check what games the mods were far, noticed Zombie master is listed as a mod for... zombie master :P

if I understand what you mean correctly I would say it's not really feasible. Maybe while they're up in the air? currently there's just the idle animation there, or was that what you meant?
Anyway the way I understand it 3d animating the existing playermodels can be quite a pain for modellers/animators.
So doubt it though it'd be funny to watch, it shouldn't affect throwing ability's though...

I like this idea but I already asked Nauz to instead just move the start of the idle farther back so the idle doesn't constantly start after a grenade is down.(you'd to get to see the pervy carresing WAY to much :P)
But maybe Nauz can try your suggestion as well, that's up to him though.
hmm maybe, but probably not. It's actually more like an actual grenade with the shape of a melon and painted like a melon so it doesnt actually have melon.. fruit inside of it but only explosives.
