I code stuff!
Looks good! Nice simple style and cool idea's on the eating, it reminds me of a game I had for gamecube, Phantasy Star Online something something, you could feed a little robot you had with items and depending on the items stats were raised/lowered. Thought it was a fun mechanic so really liking the idea of seeing something similar here. :)
*rolls on the floor laughing*
What a fool you are sir
Looks good, but switching characters looks like it's a pain in the ***, but I guess it's unavoidable for the Xbox 360 and better than a cycle hahaha. But what about PC? Number keys an option, or anything else more direct than a choice wheel?
What would you rather see on here then? In my opinion these are some of fines pieces of work I've seen this year, you know any hidden gems that top these?
Do you guys forget that all of those Source licensed game seem to always end up on Steam, Steam is Valve's platform, they get like what? 25% of the profits? Ka-ching! It explains why the license price is likely to be negotiable and not insanely high, plus Valve seems to be a kind company...
Regardless, thanks to Steam sales, Valve makes a profit on top of the license and they probably weigh that in the license price.
I see you tried to explain it a bit, but it's really the same as what's in the video...
"When you are trying to convert a value to an integer and set it to 1.9, it is still 1."
Yeah I saw that in the video... what's the point of this telling us this though, I'm not even sure if every programming language will roundown integers when casting, but assuming they do, it's pretty much common knowledge you could find with google instantly.
How does that information relate to what he's doing though?
"when using integers, you can end up with a reversed Y Axis"
Uh yeah, -y is reversed y, even floats can be reversed like that... again, what is the point of this information? It does not tell anything useful.
"You also have the ability to devide the force between multiple moving objects while having them move the same way as the same amount of force being applied to only one object, and it uses the same Processing Power as only one moving object."
That is actually kinda bad when I think about it... but barely noticeable, guess that's where part of the "fake" comes in.
As for the same amount of processing power... yeah I got that too from the video, why repeat all this information? Additionaly I find it hard to believe that it's the same amount of processing power, how did he measure that? What I would believe is that the processing power required for one object is so low, that multiple objects won't have a noticable impact.
Interested, but have to dissapoint you, since I'm not nearly dedicated enough, nor have my own PC available and logging that time is just not possible without. I'm wonder what humongus things you have planned to require 20 hours per week programming though.
Anyway, have you considered going to the UDK? I'd say it's biggest worry with that would be the server browser deal(assuming that's still an issue), but the bonus of being standalone would draw in more people(I hope :P)
Also idea: A semi tower defense kinda game, gardeners move along set paths to... gardeneer stuff, players have to strategically position themselves and set off traps and **** by their own suicides.
Well, that sounds like a lot of work actually, but just spewing stuff ^_^
Anni, your first two comments were good, but the last 2 were uncalled for.
I can understand you are worried, I bought Spearhead myself half a year ago, so I'm worried they're not just gonna squander that money and never deliver, however:
It's not just the engine that costs money, think about a place to work and a team to pay, granted I am interested in how much they really need and whether they actually NEED that money, but they aren't exactly the only ones doing pre-order like stuff like this.
Overgrowth and NS2 also allow pre-purchasing to get the latest stuff, but these guys aren't as fancy in their PR(Overgrowth) or can rely on the popularity of a previous title(Natural Selection) and are just doing it slightly different.
Here people get multiple options on how much to spend, so they could provide some minor support now and when a release is looking more likely eventually upgrade later. Plus the stuff they've got is even playable for free in a different format.
It's doing it different, but in a way it's the same thing, I don't see why are you trying to flag them as untrusthworthy and scammers.
I'm worried too, but I'll just assume they aren't scammers and if there's no final product released, it's not because they didn't try or were doing a scam, but simply for reasons that even a bigger budget game can fail on.
Cool Nauz, but you mispelled Zeitgeist at the start :P
This calls for a ninja edit!
To enjoy it and maybe pickup some skills usefull for a job, but I'd rather not be part of a large company, also said large company probably resides in another country and I don't plan on moving :P
I'm not gonna be the only one either, altough many may still take the chance if it were given to them ofcourse.
Not really, it has the same sort of weapons, but that's to be expected, they're both medieval based games.
This looks similar as it, but with a different style, a style I really like. Keep it up guys!
Mount&Blade has had it's beta in development(which people pay for to play, or with a trial similar as to how it's now) years before it officially released.
But that's irrelevant, they're both medieval games, using medieval weapons and armor...
Actually they do :O
My grandmother does not want to play this, so she doesn't exist, therefore my mother also does not exist and therefore I don't exist, nor do my sisters and some other family.
You killed part of my family tree! :P
Not thinking, we have a plan for it :P
But currently GMN (modeller and mapper) has a bunch of other stuff to do as well, so it's pretty much a "when it's done" thing.(it will first require a new player model, no small task)
The "first haters" syndrome is present!
It's not a mod...
And there are people that make a living off this stuff.
He's doing good work, thinking things through more than other developers, he's also doing this alone which is important to keep in mind as well.
Released Jan 1 1990
I think the year is correct since I recall the World Wide Web starting around my year of birth, but I'm not sure :P
late reply: Yep, including commercial use, the sound library it uses(Bass) was/is not free for commercial use though, but it can be disabled and replaced with your own/another sound library.
heh, I think it brightened it up a bit :D
Finished reading the rest now,
You have my respect sir, when I saw you dropped Calamity Fuse in favor of this, I was getting the reason for the move, but not seeing the potential of Digitanks, now looking at the new screenshot and how you are handling things though, I must say I'm starting to look forward to how this'll develop.
Also saw you mentioned Work in the second list item, personally I feel none of that as work, aside from the "grinding" of MMO's. My attention span can be shorter than that of a dog... so go figure :P I realize the potential of a long term game though, Mount&Blade for example did have my hooked, although since that wasn't an MMO, levelling was a lot quicker, but it still had a long term going over it.(albeit not nearly as long as the major MMO's out there)
Anyway, in general, working towards something when playing(and having fun) is not the same as "work" to either work towards something or just get through an area for example. When it's a fun filled process while "working" toward it, it's just playing with a toy and then getting new toys thrown at you, comparing it to the dog example.
I think all developers should at least ponder over this like you do, so they at least realize that you WANT to give the players new toys, while he's playing toys, not want to force him to learn a trick(or in game, go cleaning your oversized inventory filled with useless crap as if your mother screamed "GO CLEAN YOUR ROOM BOY" the moment it's filled and you can't get the good stuff anymore). Once the player gets bored of a toy, it's from then on the point he'll have to "work" which depending on a variety of circumstances including that player's attention span and "betterness" drive to name some, it could mean you lose that player, or at least make em wary of buying your next product(cough Mass Effect 2)
Anyway, looking forward to Part 2 and what Digitanks will turn into!
Good stuff Blue, keep it up :)
Wreck also had this problem, I'll tell you the same I did them:
If you're just starting you'd normally just create a game instead of a mod and then find the Unreal Engine 3 as a mod you can't choose an engine so that's why it wasn't in the list.
Wreck seems to have upgraded their profile from mod to game fine since then, so it's possible. You should definitely try sending one of the ModDB staff members a PM or E-mail, they're very nice fellows and they'll inform you how to keep the profile but turn it into a game profile instead of a mod profile.
Appartment looks good.
In the spirit of the pet suggestions, I'd like to suggest at least a rubber duck, with dinosaur like "scales/skin" and teeth. That is assuming the raptor will have a bathroom with a bath.
I smell a lack of melons.
More melons are always good!
Looking good though!
Thanks blue for mentioning GraviNULL :D
Hmmm well I haven't played this yet, but as it seems it doesn't have the same gameplay as TF2, so the only real thing to code is the gameplay wanted. Then mount TF2 to be able to use the models.
But maybe it doesn't work that smoothly, plus Steaky said he doesn't know any coding, he'd basically be asking for help when he's been well capable of doing it on his own. TF2 would be needed to play it both ways, so assuming the gameplay is fun, I'd say ít's a succesfull approach.
Gonna go try this when I've got time!
Pink unicorns that shoot lasers when they fart.
Eh, the Jailbreak team has no obligation to give away their entire mod lol, it's not dead, they're still working on it, they're being very generous as is by supplying a mapping pack with their stuff and posting stuff on their blog. It's more than most would do ... and here you are bitching them pretending you represent more than one coder.
You dirty ****!
Any ETA on when your map will be done? :D
Sure is, assuming you're not gonna type all day long ^_^
Damn I was talking about this recently with Bekey, talk about the devil and you step on it's tail!
Will see how this turns out.
nah, happens too often, would get annoying VERY quickly, trust me!
Interesting selection, this'll be an interesting one!
Grats for all the developers of these games for making it up here :)
I hope they do, developers have to get tired of zombies one day!(I hope!)
Actually the balls aren't fixed ;)
But yeah that's basically what I've done, the reach is extended alot to make it easier to grapple onto them, when the player is grappled on I set a networked Handle so that the client side can create the beam between the player and the mines.
Server side in the SecondaryAttack function I simply need to do some simple Vector math to create a pull direction, a bool is used here to check if it pulled already, if not it starts the player off with a 5x as strong pull to get them moving at a nice speed, from then on simply keep adding the standard rate of velocity every 10th of a second until the player de-grapples.
So you pretty much guessed it right! But like I said the mines aren't fixed, they have physics, they're currently a modified weapon entity that can't be picked up and overrides FallThink and FallInit to prevent it from spawning onto the floor instead of where it's put in Hammer.
Keep up the good work!
What? No whaleman with a santa hat? To much christmas I'd guess.
I know 3 of those people :D
TF2 is an orange box game, also Portal and HL2:EP2, HL2 and EP1 where in the Orange Box but aren't on the Orange Box so they don't count as Orange Box, regardless you shouldn't need ANY Orange Box game from what I can tell(unless it's being mounted from code along with the gameinfo.txt) assuming you change the SteamAppID to 218 and have the Source SDK Base - Orange Box(which you can get if you can get the normal SDK Base as well)
Right, the readme.txt claims you need an Orange Box game, however I tried using the Source SDK Base - Orange Box appid(218) and could play through the whole episode without ANYTHING being different then when HL2:EP2 was mounted, so either HL2:EP2 is mounted in code or there really is NO dependency on Orange Box games.
From what it seems, it's just like any other SourceMod that isn't mounting any specific orange box game content but is just on the Orange Box engine... you just gotta mount Source SDK Base - Orange Box, and ANYONE who can download the normal Source SDK Base can also download the Orange Box version of that! So dudes without Orange Box, do not pay attention to the readme! Go to the gameinfo.txt and modify the SteamAppId to be 218 and you should be able to play the mod just fine!
I've gotsta booty(activates special: WARP SPEED ACTIVATED)
Yarr mateys can't touch this!
Nice news, sounds all cool, except maybe the skirmisher doublejump... does he really need to be even harder to hit lol?
Not much less as what my mod started with when creating a ModDB page(2-3 map screenshots and a video with a untextured holy nade animation)
It having one screenshot is no reason to say the ModDB page shouldn't have been created, who knows what kind of stuff will come up in the future!
Well good luck with the mod I guess :) I like the torn "icon" or whatever it is :D
Also this is much better then I'd expect from a 14 year old, if this is really you're doing it seems like you could be a very promising mapper.
I think I've encounterd a bug :P
I doubt I'm supposed to be able to get there lol, I can't get out of that Inn or whatever it is either :(
I remember wanting to play the previous release for the co-op thing, but forgot before I got a chance to... need to rememember to download this today instead of playing TF2 :D
Update sounds good!
Why is there no information on Callas though?
That's a very nice sky :D
Sounds cool :D
Reminds me of Skies of Arcadia - Legends
There were floating island in the sky, with flying boats(!), including sail, cannons and anything else you'd expect on a boat.
Not sure if it had a sea though, but that was an awesome game, stuff like this makes for awesome idea's :D
Good luck with your game!
The sexy twirling animation is the secondary "attack" :P
So it's not gone, just didn't use it in the video.
Apperently Campaigns can go far enough as to change models and script things to make it a real story like experience.
So you could say DBD will be a mod and it seems to want to be a mod, the real problem is whether it will deliver. NOT whether it's a mod or not, it's promising to be a upcoming mod, there really isn't much to argue about that. So it won fair and square, but chances are it will never deliver, which would be bad but there's no point continuing to be all negative about it.
The way I see it, DBD now has more reason then ever to make sure it delivers, or else there will be thousands of angry zombie fans :P
why was there such a long talk about the moty awards again? don't tell me that whole DBD discussion is STILL going on?
I wouldn't know since I skipped out of it fairly quickly, from all I hear it's gonna be a mod, so it won fair and square since it's upcoming.
Sucked for NeoTokyo and the other mods but fair is fair.
Btw I spotted youtube links of actual ingame footage of NeokToyko on Interlopers, so besides the fancy trailer NeokTokyo does have some footage to show, but I think it was added after the awards though.
very nice :D
we actually want to discourage kamikaze though :P
except for maybe in Last Team Standing, sacrificing yourself to make your team is still teamplay :P
ehm I took a look at some pics of DirectX5, you are horribly wrong, but yeah most of the features are probably wasted on the game in it's current state, but this is just a first version, who knows how awesome it will look if more time was spent on level design and effects?
671 mb? this better be good :O
great mod, usually hosting a 8 player temp server when I play.
they already do :P
this video was taken long ago in Half Life 2 Deathmatch only to show the animations
in the mod I already have them exploding on contact.. YUM! Took a while to but got help from another coder :)
Couldn't agree more annd as far as I know this isn't a popularity contest though, so I think the others stand a good chance if you ask me.
But whoever wins, won, so it's not like I'd deny Notch a victory or the prize, but others less fortunate with their sales or financial standing could probably use it more, so I'm rooting for the others the most.
Can you teach me how to vote harder? It sounds kinky.
Yep I know it's on Desura(since I had to upload it myself)
As far as reception goes, I've not seen much of the playerbase, how is it nowadays?
Either way, far as updating goes the mods all ready to get some extra maps if the mappers are willing to put them out, I'm gonna be keeping one of them busy with a new project though and others are busy with their own stuff sooo...
It all depends on what the content producers(mappers/modellers) can do for it at this point.
That and rapping.
Is it just me or did Overgrowth get almost zip showing time on this video, it actually seems to cut out when things start getting interesting.
Just something that I noticed, was watching the video... overgrowth came up... then suddenly it was gone! I felt like I had a blackout or something, rewinded and checked again...
Anyway congrats to all the developers, cool to see Interstellar Marines on here as well I think it deserves some attention, their attention to the weapon feel is something I've not seen in any of the games I've played although I far from played all games there are to play :)
I'm hoping for Overgrowth, or Bastion, that one gets me excited too.
It's probably cause it's turned fully Indie now?
"one big remark, i noticed something very strange that wasn't great at all. and that is that the time between someone fires and when you get hit is to big."
It's called lag and it's the bane of multiplayer gaming when there's an unfortunate abundance of low speed connections or faraway/overloaded servers.
There's not much they can do about it, you can though, make sure to play on servers with the least amount of ping for the least problems with lag :)
Voted Awesome-Sauce, cause Sauce is awesome, and I'm a Sauce, so that means I'm awesome and that means ModDB is awesome, because everytime I log in a Bekey dies and the ModDB's Awesome-Sauce-o-Meter starts rising further off the charts of awesome.
Sorry for being such a dirty mind... but the Wolf's tail looks like... a ... well I won't say it, but everyone that reads it will probably see it if they rewatch the video.
Anyway, good stuff :P
Awesome, noticed I can delete reviews too, which is good since I had a rating sitting on my own mod cause my dad thought it was a good idea to vote... except he was logged in on my account while he decided that...
Deletion seems succesful as I can now rate again, except the number of votes didn't change. Is that cause the number doesn't count own vote to begin with?
Grats Vino, seems RockPaperShotgun caught wind of it as well: Rockpapershotgun.com
How humble and such an interesting but fine post for a release, thumbs up.
Will likely give this a shot because of it :)
Agreed, won't vote, options are way too narrow.
Awesome sounds, pat that sound artist on the back for me.
Animations starting to shape up nicely too I see :)
that's pretty good, still there's a limit to what you can do with it, but I hope it will be enough, I guess it's mainly gonna depend on the servers too(so people from all over can have good ping on a server nearby, but that often doesn't happen).
Anyway, good luck with this, I hope it doesn't die out again :)
Awesome, my one worry with this sort of 1v1 duel thing is lagg. If one or the other person laggs how will that affect the duel? I prefer fair and square fights that aren't ruined by one person having a lagg spike and being unable to do a counter attack move or something, how will Blade Symphony handle it?
Played it through and completed the survey as well.
""Prototype" and "alpha" are often used interchangeably in the realm of software development. When referring the hardware development, the term "prototype" is exclusively used. Both refer to an early stage development stage. It is common for prototype to refer to an initial version which demonstrates the very basic functionality of the development subject."
This is way more than basic functionality :P Well worth calling it a beta or demo, it's even quite long(took me an hour... that's a long demo :D) you're underselling yourselves with choosing to call it a prototype if you ask me :) No need to be so humble if you intend to sell it in the end.
Amazing stuff guys :D
Friends and like minded.
I treat modding as a hobby to do for fun and learning, people that know what they're doing aren't necessarily needed.
But most friends I have know what they're doing anyway.
Played a bit, not really my type of game, but a nicely made game nonetheless.
A fine price too :D
