Curious why Natural Selection 2 isn't on the list this year, like last year, not that I want it to be, but merely in the sense of wondering what made it drop off the list entirely, isn't it still released and wasn't it first or second last year?
Did people lose attention for it, or did the others on this list just got a ton more popularity than it?

I'd say Animators, from what I've been able to tell, it's a skill scarcely mastered, as opposed to others. But I could be wrong, but from my experience, not many people are good animators and the ones that are good are employed somewhere.
There are plenty of programmers to find, good ones that you can actually lure into joining you are perhaps also scarce, but there are at least more programmers, so I'd put that second.
Team Leaders... I never liked the idea of someone else but the person who started the project lead the project, but yes it's also a hard position to fill if it needs to be filled, because anyone can bark orders, but not everyone can motivate a team the right way.

Agreed, won't vote, options are way too narrow.
I just said it's not though. Fire a red mine and it's instantly recharged, not much need for a bar then. Regardless I think nipz it was who had a good idea for it, a small blue light attached to the gravity gun model that's glowing bright when blue mine mode can be used.
Trying to keep the HUD minimal. The recharge isn't noticable if you just take the rule that you need to fire a red mine or wait a long time in order to be able to fire blue again.
I think I saw this somewhere else as well, would work great, doesn't sound hard to implement, but I don't know how the ModDB site is build up, so I could be wrong.
Anti-Gravity-Sanity... sound crazy! I'll admit though, GraviNULL isn't the best name ever thought of, but heck, how else to call it?
Besides I'm a programmer, the NULL makes it more unique I think, bit of an inside joke for all programmers(if you find that hard to spell, just say people that code stuff :P)
Anyway, I did the basic changes that should make combat bearable, but lagg currently has WAY too much of an influence on it, so a video of Zero Gravity combat will have to wait till I straigten that stuff out as much as I can!

My experience is that it's a bad idea to ever say something is either 100% or 0% :P
As for sounds, depending on I don't think it matters that much, for example some sounds like bullets hitting certain objects, is there any reason to change that? Sounds like getting hurt and other stuff may matter, but bullets hitting metal are still bullets hitting metal!
lmao, yeah I kinda dislike RAR for that reason, not everyone has WinRAR, so they shouldn't be forced to get it.
Also funny to note is that it's an installer... packaged in a .rar, usually installers are smaller then zipped/rarred stuff anyway and the only reason for doing this seems to be the added readme.txt, which could have been stuck somewhere else as well>.>

oh and since I can't edit my reply anymore, I was talking about L4D on the x new weapons, before I bought it after playing the demo.
I was totally expecting at least a set of 3 new weapons somewhere in the 5 map campaigns.. but nope ...
The only thing that makes me agree with that was the fact that on the cover it said something like x new weapons, but there weren't that many weapons apperently the fuel containers and stuff were counted like weapons, leading me to falsely believe there'd be more then just new campaigns in l4d.
But meh I'm gonna stay out of this, I ought the chance high Valve is gonna prove everyone wrong eventually.
This game made me get a paypal account, but then I saw ubisoft weekend deal and bought that with the paypal account, I'm such a traitor :P
Anyway, I will see how people's reactions are and hopefully see some video's from people playing the game on Youtube, then maybe I'll buy it later, already heard good things on todays modcast, made me wish I didn't buy the ubisoft pack >.>
Regardless, I hope Zeno Clash is well received and that ACE Team may have a great future :)

Played this yesterday, first impressions: Very smooth, with interesting gameplay and nice level design.
Only bad thing I noticed was the inventory key was on Enter, a terribly unconvenient key guys, TAB or I would make more sense, the shop was a bit vague as well, but this seems like it'll be a great game :)
Who knows what mods will do to it though?

Pointless? Aren't games all pointless? If everything humanity does boils down to the betterment of humankind(in the end: happyness) then so do games, so I suppose no games are pointless, unless they do not fullfill a goal that leads to it.

I will think what I think though and not put words into his mouth I've never seen him say(read: type), additionaly, he also mentioned "no goals", I'd like to think he's implying a game without combat and without goals, should just be a movie or something, which I might agree to, depending on what falls under goals, teaching something can be a goal in an educational game, even if that's not an immediatly satisfying goal to some and may be labelled as not a goal...
What I'm just trying to say with that is, he might not be aware there's any sorts of goals yet, it's not even out yet, so perhaps he might not play it because there's no combat, but still will accept it as a game if it does have goals like Iz said and well, not everyone enjoys non-violence games and not everyone enjoys violent games, perhaps he's just the former, not a reason to try and bury the comment, if he really is trying to be insulting, sure go ahead, but I think you and others hitting the minus button are jumping the gun and making too many assumptions.
Which is a human thing to do anyway, but really, he's several steps above the kind of jerks that would say: "What no combat? This game suuuuuuuckkkssss", he's explained his opinion in a polite way, yet people are getting angry with him, so I felt the need to defend him with an overload of Duck logic.

NullSoldier, I disagree, while he should be "ignored" in the sense of not changing the mod into a combat game now suddenly, I don't think him or anyone is a fool for saying that.
He's just stating his honest opinion and isn't even calling it bad or saying Iz should do otherwise, he's just saying it's not his thing, if you don't like simulation games for example, are you then a complete fool for saying you're not really into simulation games?

Do you guys forget that all of those Source licensed game seem to always end up on Steam, Steam is Valve's platform, they get like what? 25% of the profits? Ka-ching! It explains why the license price is likely to be negotiable and not insanely high, plus Valve seems to be a kind company...
Regardless, thanks to Steam sales, Valve makes a profit on top of the license and they probably weigh that in the license price.

You're free to think that, but as a fellow developer, I full well understand their desire to commercial, so I assure you that my problem was only with the way they hoped to achieve that, however they seem to have no wrong intentions, only good ones.
Still, there are other ways, harder ways perhaps but I can fully understand why they do it this way, especially after looking at the current gathered donations, since there are plenty of fans that fully support them.
I am in no way part of the "mods go commercial rage" group, if they can gather the required cash to purchase a license, then in my opinion they have every right to sell what they have spent hard work into to make.
I would like to partially apologize for what I said before, I still can't look favorably upon donations, but watching the video mflux posted, I can tell he at least loves the work he's doing and has every intention to keep the fans pleased, so I believe I owe them at least some more respect, they are just trying to do things right, while I do not approve of their ways, they mean well. So I'm sorry for that.
I still have to agree with Darthlex's point on transferring the PHAN thing to kickstarter, I don't see why it's not possible and it seems like a backstab move to me, perhaps it's really not possible but I really don't see why, so you can understand why I feel distrusting about that.

I'm getting real sad now, everyone seems to be able to play it just fine, all my steam and source games work. But I'm the only one that has this issue! It doesn't make any sense.

Bought it and it doesn't run for me, the first time I showed the Streum On logo but with a white background, then the game froze before being able to get past that.
Since then every launch doesn't even get as far as that, the game just breaks my windows view(a lot of stuff goes black on the screen until moused over) and my desktop background becomes black and dissapears and stays that way until rebooting the PC. The .exe is then running but the game doesn't start in any further way, windows remains fully active in that broken state.
A friend of mine says he can run it without problems though, which makes me fear I'm the only one... Is there anyone else that has this? Also why isn't there a forum set up, the steam forum link just leads to the website, no forums there. I hope a dev reads this page D:

I've been using UDK for the past months, so that's not reinventing the wheel :)
I do however make some of the stuff I want to make from scratch, even if there are other solutions available, that's generally because knowing the code will be to my advantage when I need it to do things the author didn't intend it to do.
I'd say it's been working quite well, except I never released anything on UDK, but I point the finger to my inability to stick with a project and complete it, so perhaps it is working well.

True I guess, but they need to eat and if this is their Source of income... well the Publisher may provide some funding until release, but they can't delay the game forever, still time is indeed less of an issue I think.
That's more of an excuse for lack of content than bugs, but still a valid excuse, since they have limited time, people and testers.
Also, these guys didn't make the Mount and Blade series, they made the Sword of the Stars series apparently. You must be reffering to Paradox, which is a publisher, not a developer.
Which does still stand for something(as I see it, Paradox publishes good games, even if they can be a bit broken, you'll have a good time with them, good example is Magicka, rather broken on release and still is occasionaly, but it's a great game)

Anyway I've had this game for years for pc. It was great then! Old but classic in my opinion, dunno what the linux version is like. If you like the kind of genre this falls in (isometric perspective, commando like game but not as freaking hard) then you might like it. If you can enjoy an older game. :)

As for the ticking, I'm pretty sure that even for a very past animation, it shouldn't give too much trouble, at least not for AoC.
Because the sword will still be going in one direction, so the line shouldn't be changing much, if the blade is making "really" fast sharp curves in it's trajectory, maybe it would be a problen... I don't know, I'll let Zack answer that.

Do you have a socket on the hilt of the blade and the tip and just trace between that? But how do you trace often enough to get that sweet of a result(that in between ticks thing?)

Couldn't agree more annd as far as I know this isn't a popularity contest though, so I think the others stand a good chance if you ask me.

Looking good, what are you gonna use for network support?
Java is easier and nicer to use, using it combined with Netbeans IDE which is also a joy. C++ may have certain advantages, but for what I'm doing Java will do fine and it's much less of a pain to work with.
I've nothing against web implemented games, I'm not all that savvy with online browser stuff. Unity could be a good thing for that, but maybe I'll keep it Java, or desert it :P Time will tell!

I was a bit meh on your AAA Indie idea, but after reading the FAQ, I want to at least say I fully support it. I intend to buy the spearhead(correct?) account type thing, but may have to hold off, may have to buy later instead. Really sweet game and that AAA Indie thing is a great idea too.

Though I think like is said below, it's a good thing no AAA games appear as most viewed, so the Indie games can get some attention... but only for everyone that doesn't care about mods(GASP) and only comes here.
For everyone else, is there a reason to visit both ModDB and IndieDB? Since you'll still get the indie news on ModDB.
Seems ok, but I really wonder if it was needed? As said, ModDB already covered all of it and Desura could handle the larger needs of Indie developers it seemed to me.
Overal, I like the green style, though slightly hurtfull to the eye.

1. Very nice :D You may wanna consider contacting Bekey about it: Moddb.com He's intending to write up some mapping tips for GraviNULL and has suggested adding a community made map in the next release, run through it with him and who knows :P
2. Concerning gn_core, according to Bekey, gn_core uses the same size for the main cylinder as his own map, so they're both equally big... amazingly. I think for space the same thing counts, both seem huge due to the see through walls. Bekey is looking into fixing Asskicker's map(gn_space), gn_core is a bit of tough one concerning "size".
About the gamemodes, yeah got a lot of em and still need the time to write some of them up for future re-evaluation, I'll put yours up too, it's a good one.

Small comment: At one point you manually do what you earlier did automatically with the yellow cubes, just seemed a tad pointless that it seemed to function the same, only more work pulling it out.

1. Alright then, I take it you're interested in mapping for it? In which case it'd be worth shipping the mode even with 1 map. That's a +10 on the "should I add" scale :P
2. I agree, but for me only really in gn_core, which is HUGE. What other maps do you think are too large?
Track powerup sounds ok, however pickups are supposed to work like regular mines, in the sense they're shot from an "absorbed" state, I wonder how'd that best be balanced in terms of damage usefullness, after all, the most use it'd have is in gn_worse, the others are too open for it to mater a whole lot.
I agree on the dev textures, ofcourse, they do make things look very much WIP, but still better than putting over some crappy texture work :) Regardless, Bekey is turning it into something interesting already.
Very much looking forward to seeing it in a more interesting shape and ofcourse showing it to you all.

Very interesting idea, how will this work as a "mod" exactly? As far as I know, Valve doesn't support mods to appear in the steam games list except for Half Life 2 mods.
A video to see this in action would be a great way to attract more attention.

I remember Windows 7 had a problem with thinking of some programs as communication programs when they're not and then it goes and do stupid ****.
Try digging around your sound options, specifically look out for "communication". I believe you can add exceptions so if you add Arcan as an exception sound should work.
But not sure since I don't have Windows 7.

I've played a little of Boxxed today, fun concept, had a 100% success rate until I got to the boss, found that to be quite confusing, but overall so far as I played it, I think it's good, so if you're up to play some small minigames, then this is a must try.
I've played this game, pretty fun game, fairly easy to get into.
Even if it's old, you should consider giving it a try regardless!

The only HUD it has now is the health counter, do something like blood effects to indicate health and voila no more hud, would be even better for this mod imo.

Here's a hint for someone modding for more then half a year and with some connections with other modders(specfically the jailbreak team).
Please, do NOT release incomplete stuff, first impressions are VITAL to a mod, if you want to have people help you give suggestions and stuff then just get some friends you can trust and only give it to them, or try to recruit some testers, but do not release something incomplete to everyone... trust me it's NOT a good idea.

It was kinda fun, but the gameplay was way too slow, and I wished you could take veteran units to the next battle in the campaigns.
Also I hope you're gonna take focus on making a multiplayer chatroom of some sort, this game needs more focus on multiplayer then a campaign in my opinion.
Also there was some bad english present in the story and it would seem to skip the last bit of text, while the narrator was still talking.

and if you mean trail of the grenade by when it's thrown then no feathers.. doesn't suit it imho, but for the ball it could have such a trail, but maybe not:) time will tell!

P.S this video isn't about the visuals of the holy nade but its functions>.> that it doesn't appear to holy is cause it's just a model with a basic glowing effect with little time spent on visuals, those things come when we're sure about what we want.
Teddy Wars is currently a Facewound arcade style mod (credit to Garry and his team from Facepunch) and is in the process of being developed under the Valve source engine for the 3D realm.
so looks like it'll be a hl2 mod eventually

yeah like Nauz said idea already came to mind, personally I think the noce piercing is funnier and that was an idea by Nauz.
It's up to him though if he wants to add a jaw or not.
there's already gona be a white glow on it when thrown, about that same glow being on it when it's not yet thrown... well I have to talk with Nauz about that(the modeller) and do some testing on code myself to see if that can work.
