Well, I know how my evil empire building should start, anyway.

Step One: Acquire a ship and crew.
Step Two: Start trading and/or large-scale fishing.
Step Three: Get into the purple dye trade, which means a trip to Tyre.
Step Four: Get more ships and crews. Continue doing this until satisfied.
Step Five: Acquire a largeish island.
Step Six: And now it's time to make my army and get to work!

As to getting the ship... well, I mentioned kidnapping and threatening the killing-by-torture of the children of Senators before, right? That should be able to get me a talent or two after I do that a few times. :)

Also, good work so far, Azk! Hope the new guy works out.

Note to self- hire a couple super-smiths to equip my armies. Most of the stuff will be pretty good, but high-rankers get stuff good enough to get a name. All of it, armor and shield too.

THEN try to stop my genocidal rampages! :D

Well, as long as I get to go on a brutal killing spree in the heart of Rome, striking terror into the hearts of all the AIs foolish enough to dare live in MY city, I'll be happy. :D

Until the empire-building voices finally overthrow the brutal-murder voices, anyway.

Not meaning to sound whiny or anything, but any guesses on how long until you're ready to let us walk around your nice Forum Romanum? Also, whenever that happens, I shall manage to murder someone in the game. It doesn't matter if you haven't even inputted weapons yet, I shall find a way. :D

Well, it being looked into is all I can ask for. The brutality option is apprectiated immensely, though. Stupid people thought Caesar was bad, chopping the hands off captured Gauls... Just wait and see what Doom von Doomicus can do! Or something. Evil name suggestions?

Well, as long as I can acquire vast sums of cash with extreme brutality and use it to become Bandit-King or whatever of a large area. Or I might become the Black Company, as long as the AI nations can and will hire mercenaries.

Ooh, so we can torture the NPCs? Can we blackmail them? IE, I kidnap a Senator's kid and threaten to torture him to death unless I get paid, say, ten talents. Can I do that?

Good, good. Monthly fees would irritate me. I always thought the best way was to use microtransactions, actually, and sell people A) different items, not better, but distinctive and not gettable from anywhere else and B) if you delay every expansion a month after you have it ready, sell month-early access to the content! People would pay for that.

Well, not-so-much-free-time and money is better than free time and broke.

So here's hoping that soon enough this actually starts making money so you can live off it. How were you planning on making cash, if not having people pay for it- microtransactions or adverts?

Fair enough, for not being able to form our own official nations. Doesn't mean I won't burn Rome and take over Italy anyway. Thanks for at least giving us the ability to do that- this is probably the first MMO I've seen where everything can be obliterated. Unless we can't obliterate Rome. That would be irritating, but normal.

Oh, on the subject of land-ownership and NPCs- can we actually found our own empires and go out conquering?

Actually, all the styles of housing in the same area aren't that ridiculous. What is normal is driven by what exists, and what exists is driven by the demand for and availability of an object. So if there is demand for such housing, and since it is clearly buildable anywhere, you could expect to see it.

I, personally, look forward to building up my empire by way of tearing it from Rome's cold, dead hands while the Senate bleeds out in its chambers.

*grins* That would be Star Ruler, in this case. They have a page on this site, actually... Always funny to see what happens when you build a fleet of ships where the small ones are the size of the galaxy.

OK. Spent the last while blowing things up, usually for no apparent reason other than an inordinate fondness for mushroom clouds, particularly ones the size of small galaxies. Good to know you at least got *some* cash out of it.
