The Stanley Parable

Mod review may contain spoilers

I happened to really like this mod. The narrations were top-notch, the humor was definitely there, the execution was nearly at expert levels, and the endings were all either hilarious or fascinating.

That being said, a few things could be done to improve it. More custom textures would have been nice, and more intricate and/or detailed level design would have made it more interesting. Specifically, a different work station for Stanley's office and a more appropriate-looking elevator, as well as different skins for Stanley's and the woman's models in the "Stanley was hallucinating" ending.

While the narrations were nice, I think you should have tied the sounds to the environment. I paused during one of the narrations, and it just kept going, so I missed what it had to say while I was otherwise preoccupied and had to sit where I was (in the game) in sullen silence while I waited for the elevator to come.

Other than that, top-notch mod, my friend. Top-freakin'-notch.

Coastline to Atmosphere

Mod review may contain spoilers

I have to say, I wasn't very impressed with this. The story was uninteresting, the fact that I had to lug the jeep around was annoying, the writing was sub-par (I mean, seriously, nobody in the HL2 universe actually called G-Man "G-Man", so why would Gordon know?), and keycard missions are just boring.

However, it did get good during the hallucination sequence. I really enjoyed what you did for that part, and I think that if you guys put yourselves to it you could make an entire game out of that, and it would be glorious because it actually was creepy, unexpected and weird.

All-in-all, a sub-par little adventure with an above average section towards the end.

Underhell

Mod review

From a technical standpoint, this is a superb mod. There's enough alterations made to the engine to make it not even feel like a modification of Half-Life. But the story, or at least what I could glean from it, didn't feel right. It starts off as being about a cop taking down a terrorist organization and then, suddenly, out of nowhere, monster attacks everything and you're going to a jail sort of thing in the middle of nowhere. The voice-acting could use some work, too. Other than that, yeah, it was good.
