After having worked in the modding community and later as marketing artist at Ubisoft Blue Byte, I've founded my own independent studio Frame6 with three other former gamedesign students of the Mediadesign University of Applied Sciences.
Great to see you made it into the top 100!
This mod really deserves an award, since it's definately one of the best and biggest multiplayer mods ever. The amount of gameplay variety that you guys created is awesome!
You got my vote!
I am not a fan of using percentages to document the progress. But what I can tell you is that we're on a good way to release the first public version in the first half of 2008
H.264 support comes along with the latest Flash 9 player, correct?
Takes more bandwidth than VP6, but at least you have an open source encoder for it. Only highly commercial platforms will be able to use VP6, which is quite a pity.
Great work! I noticed earlier and uploaded a new video. Let's see how big the queue is and when it will be online :)
Which codec did you use in the end? The quality is brilliant!
We'll probably be able to announce a more concrete date than "2008" soon. But at the moment, I am unable to tell you precisely, sorry!
Well...although I did like the idea of Battlefront to some extent (especially due to the vehicles, I just love the AT-TE), the realization was unfortunately rather weak. Considering that the game lost half of its community in just three weeks after the release because it was so buggy :/
Nah, the rendering server has not been installed yet. It was announced to happen somewhere this week however as a support for the Mod of the Year contest.
Is that Minas Tirith? Looks very impressive :)
That definately. But with Flash, you can also use various codecs. Sorenson for instance is used at youtube (and is responsible for the crappy quality). VP6 has an extremely high quality at a high compression. But afaik it's commercial for automatic transcoding server-side.
Great to hear! I'm already curious about the video quality. Will you be using Sorenson, VP6 or H.264?
Best and worst? I can't think of any worst at the moment, to be honest. Actually, I like the way that teams, games and mods are separated now. This really grants you to work on your team profile seperately to your mod profile. I think that is really one of the best changes. And furthermore, the overall site layout has a far better overview.
What I really love is the new video feature. From all the features to come, this is my personal most wanted. It'll be great once you can really show video trailers or coverage right within moddb in addition to imagery.
Indeed, but I found they were pretty good. They surely had their flaws, but JK2 CTF even made it to an eSports top title in the EPS finals. And there was such a large community around those games. They were definately some of the better ones.
Well, the reason for them to "suck" as you tell was mainly since they've been focussed on console platforms and have been ported badly to PC, which results in a very arcade style control of the player character. We're developing this mod for PC and don't have to care about other platforms, so that grants us more freedom to get the FPS feeling right.
The web services are running again :)
Nice first impression. Would've been lovely to see that one with AT-ST walkers instead of the BF ones :)
This mod might be a reason to buy the game after all...
That's pure vandalism and those people do not deserve the name "hackers". A real hacker usually has noble intentions by pointing people at security weaknesses.
However, that is pure destructive abuse of security leaks. And I can't understand how anyone can do that to a noncommercial project that wants to give the fans something to enjoy. Even Black Mesa: Source was victim of such people recently.
A hint to the TLS team: If you really want to secure your production data, I recommend using Subversion as a versioning software. It is much harder for those scriptkiddies to even find out where your repository is than any website-based application. And you can also use a server to backup all of the repository.
Good luck to you guys!
I'll try to have more media updates posted as soon as I proceed further with the map Duel of the Fates. There is also a remake of a popular Movie Battles II map in production currently and with the progress I see, there should be a larger media update within the next 2 months. Still gotta finish a map for Movie Battles 2 first, though ;)
However, progress is slower than I would like it to be, mainly due to the lack of modelers being capable of creating working player models.
Thanks for your comment.
Yes, we can always use good modelers. Especially those who are able to migrate their models into the Source engine, since we have a lack of experience there currently. However, if you want to apply, our members will most likely want to see a sample of your work to see if you can fit in the team.
So if you plan to apply, it would be best if you could do some work you can show us before considering to apply.
If you are interested and have an idea of what kind of model you would like to show, just PM me and I can give you some details.
very sad vision of the future, but therefore also interesting, because it's based on real facts and shows a possibility of how global conflicts could escalate. Looks very promising, good luck for your project. I'm sure gonna play it :)
It is already. It's not the final version yet, but an open beta. You can download Build17 at moviebattles.com
Just for those of you who were wondering: The site was temporarily offline due to some domain issues. Those have been clarified and so, the website is available again :)
Well, the new site is up - partially. It's still a placeholder site since I need to migrate it into the framework. But at least the layout is finished for the first part. For some reason, the music does not play on Internet Explorer (dump that browser anyway -.-)...
jim: If you read this, talk back to your hoster about the SQL database. I can't get access to it. phpMyAdmin tells me that the server is not responding (error #2002).
The only thing I'm wondering about is that the old mod was allowed to be listed since it was just a forum. However, the mod is being deleted if we don't get something up until this weekend - so let's hurry folks ;)
