After having worked in the modding community and later as marketing artist at Ubisoft Blue Byte, I've founded my own independent studio Frame6 with three other former gamedesign students of the Mediadesign University of Applied Sciences.
I didn't believe my eyes either. I was like: WTF?! Okay, rewind and show me if this ship is really there ^^
They are scrolling. Considering that the AMMO boxes are rather small, we decided to utilize less expensive shaders. The movement combined with the self-illumination is mainly to make players aware of AMMO spots. But at the same time, they shouldn't be too consuming.
The tool is Crazybump. I personally have been using it during the beta phase and I think it is now available as a commercial product.
It's certainly worth its price if you intend on deriving normal maps from textures instead of using highpoly meshes. It's definately more powerful than the Photoshop plugin and gives you more control over the rendered normal maps.
Well thought, it's good that you considered projectiles as well. The vortex needs some visual work, but looks like the gate works like a charm. It's nice that manual dialing will be possible :)
If you want to make it more natural, I would suggest that a player needs to holster the weapon and actually uses his hand (viewmodel animation) to press the buttons.
Fairly different from BF gameplay, but with all four factions.
Very interesting interview. I was pretty fascinated by the way you realized a flight/FPS hybrid in Source Engine. Pretty fancy coding - you still get massive server lags on a regular basis, but the system as such is working great!
I also like the artworks, these ships look really nice.
None as of yet.
I've downloaded and started playing yesterday. I am very impressed:
+ pretty smooth transition from space to FPS
+ very characteristic visual style
+ good joystick controls
+ easy to get into the game
+ fun gameplay
+ voice commands
- severe lags when looking into the space_camera portals (on super-highend system)
- choppy third person animations
Overall very impressive. I've also taken a look at how you guys have created maps that allow people to experience such a big space on a small grid in a BSP engine. You must've done some very fancy coding there.
We actually had a big debate about recoil and regarded the weaponry from a physicist's point of view, which lead us to the result that blaster weapons should have little to no recoil. It is still in to some extent however to give players a visual feedback.
Well "Lord" is maybe over the top, probably rather a Sith apprentice. What we did is to take some high resolution shots of his face and body as a texture and model reference.
"Sweaty"...well what you cannot see on the video is: It was already getting pretty warm during that weekend and the room we were in was of course heating up with all the computers running all day long. We left the windows open as long as we could, but in the end it was still pretty warm.
The icons on the ground are actually spawn points for additional weaponry in TDM and CTF mode. When you spawn, you only start with a basic blaster and a pistol as a backup.
Precisely. In fact, we're in testing and optimizing stage right now. But don't even bother about Cloud's remarks. We're already used to his proximity to cursing and spreading false rumours. We don't even read his comments anymore, as they have no content and just serve the purpose of creating tension.
I'm about to leave for the convention and I won't return before monday evening. So until then, you will have to bare with me concerning news. But make sure to check our website in between, we are planning to provide some live coverage.
There are ingame mechanics in place, but due to all the FedCon preparations, absolutely no time to shoot a trailer. You wouldn't wanna know the stress we're in right now ^^
Actually the fourth if you only count the ones that really pulled out of development state (yes, beta release is not that far ahead). There would be Troopers, Galactic Conquest and its successor First Strike to be mentioned as well.
Two thumbs up for ModDB. That's the best decision they could make. Unfortunately it won't bring back the money to the people that have been scammed, but it will help to prevent further of these events.
That won't be possible. There have been so many people complaining that their work was stolen without permission that any "proof" he could give would be just the kind of lies like the comments of people he simply edited. You remember? "When does the DVD finally arrive?" suddenly became "Wow, I just received the DVD - it's awesome!"
That's a really nice trailer with good music. You guys should work a bit on the player animations, as they look a tad unnatural (especially the Jaffa). But the visuals are stunning and really put forward the atmosphere of Stargate. Well done!
Unfortunately, SteamWorks is not gonna be available for mods...oh well, would've been too nice :/
That's just one skin variation, you can be sure to see more patterns in the future.
6.300 - 7.100
Yeah, specularity looks quite a bit different, but it always depends on the map. In some places, they look matte, in other places more shiny.
Indeed. Has a very Coruscant-like character to it, wonderful painting!
We'll add some visual diversity through multiple skins in the future. While the Clonetroopers (especially phase 1) do have a very unified look, they can be distinguished by adding a 'worn' look as well as the various commando colors.
Very good work!
This actually looks a lot nicer and less sterile than the original Tollana. Looks impressive with the given lighting and detailed surfaces :)
Indeed, we feel pretty much alive :)
Frosteh you're a lazy bum! Could've at least write a bit more details on it :P
You need to look under unreleased mods, which is the second list on the page. Scroll down a bit :)
Oh, that's wonderful news!
When I heard that the TLS team disbanded, I was pretty sad, because it looked very promising.
Good luck to you guys, I sincerely hope you make it!
Ohmy...that idea could've been one of Dacks'
Yes. Server administrators will be able to determine wether they're running Clone Wars or Galactic Civil War. Of course, the setting can be changed for every map within the map rotation.
