Report RSS Red Forest - Procedurally Generated Pod Racing

Hello!

Well, I've been working on Red Forest: PGPR for the past 18 months or so now. I really should have put it up on IndieDB a lot sooner- but never quite got around to it. Initially, it was refused because another game shared it's original name (X Speed.), but we decided to revert to our original name, Red Forest.

What is it?

Red Fuel saved our planet. It revolutionised energy; It was freely available and easy to produce, with just one problem- It was unstable.
An accident at the core Red Fuel plant caused a chain reaction, sending mass explosions through the network. Entire neighbourhoods were blown to the ground.
The devastation was not easy to repair, and these run-down neighbourhoods became known as Red Forests. Only the poor lived there, not controlled by any state, they managed themselves.

Our story focuses many years later, as the neighbourhoods are recovering.

Lacking entertainment, teenagers began to build vehicles to race. Initially, small races would take place on streets, but as time went on, tracks were built from scrap metal. Long, windy, gravity defying tracks.

Small tournaments were held to find the best racers. This evolved into the Red Forest Tournaments. This is where we enter- during the tournaments.

Well, simply put, it's a pod racer with procedurally generated tracks. It's a simple game; You race for cash, and use cash to buy new pods, and upgrades for existing pods. The game is fast, but then you upgrade, and it becomes ludicrous.

Speaking of ludicrous; If a normal race with 18 pods isn't enough, there's a Ludicrous mode. What's that? 128 pods. Good luck getting a good position, but it's a good challenge and you'll earn a nice chunk of cash for your pods if you do succeed.

Not enough? Ludicrous survival. 128 pods, one shield. If your pod blows, you're done. You score for simply winning the race.

Then for the sake of racking up cash, there's the Red Forest Tournament, which is 6 pre-selected tracks. Winning a tournament gives you a cash booster to help you buy another pod.

Well, I'm still a bit behind schedule with it but it's looking great, and playing on more and more devices.

During Development, Red Forest was free to play; You can play the last free test version on our website at Sturdygames.co.uk

Watch this space for the Demo version. Assuming all goes well, you'll have a demo by the weekend.
