I agree. Rewarding the people who contribute to the community would make more money in the long run. Afterall the community is a big part of the reason people use Steam. The reviews, screenshots, guides, videos, etc. are one of the things people really like about Steam. Gamersgate actually does reward people for those things with their Blue Coins program, but unfortunately their distribution system is not as robust or intuitive as Steam at the moment.
