I've been experimenting with making games for several years now and I'm the founder of Apok Studios. Umm... not much more to say, really.
Do you have RPG Maker XP installed on your PC? The game will work on PCs with the English version installed and PCs without the program installed, but if you have the Japanese version it may be causing problems. Don't worry, there's a simple fix if this is the case. Go into "C:\Program Files\RPG Magic\Novostrana" and open up "Game.ini". On the line that says "Library=RGSS102E.dll", change it to "Library=RGSS100J.dll".
Hmm... that's very odd. There shouldn't be any RGSS errors. I wonder if anyone else is getting any. Would you be able to tell me exactly what it says or post a picture of it?
At what point does it crash? When you start the game or when you try to enter a particular area, press a certain key, etc.?
Thank you! :)
Thank you! It took me quite a while to do and fix all the bugs in it (considering the short screen time it going to get), but I'm happy with the result.
Yeah, I need to investigate how to do that, really. The problem is that the engine requires me to use graphics of a particular size, but I'll try to find a way around it for the next version.
Well, Enterbrain asked me to contact their publisher instead. I did that several weeks ago now and I haven't got a reply back yet. I think it's safe to assume that if I had done something illegal or something that they disapprove of, they would have contacted me by now.
I'd like to consider this matter closed.
Thanks! Tho I can't really take credit for most of it. Most of it is by Enterbrain Inc., and quite a lot of the rest of it was done by other people. The credits window is getting quite long!
Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunatley I'm not an artist and it's actually quite difficult to get hold of an artist for a freeware game when you don't have a finished product. Maybe when it's released someone will make a mod for it. I'm planning on re-colouring some sprites and using some others I've found on the net, but as you say I've got other priorities at the moment. Maybe after v0.30 is out I can concentrate a little more on graphics.
Hmm... I might have a look at that other engine. It sounds interesting!
To answer the suggestion that my modifications to RPG Maker XP are somehow illegal and that this page should not be on ModDB, at the current time I am convinced that I have not used RPG Maker XP in any way that was not intended by the creator (Enterbrain Inc.). However, I have e-mailed Enterbrain outlining the situation, giving them a link to this page along with a description of the methods used to modify the Engine. I am sure you will agree it is appropriate that they should have the final say on whether my modifications are legal and this page valid.
Thanks for your comments. You can attack by pressing the "G" Key or the left mouse button. In the next version the controls will be a bit more obvious.
...although you will need a good machine for that.
Two words: BUY IT!
It's probably the best sandbox RPG available at the moment!
I'm not sure what I can see that's different, but it's good news about the release date! Loving the Multiplayer Beta! :D
Thanks for the offer! I'm actually no-longer in need of a spriter. I'm not sure I'd really have anything to trade with you that you don't already have. Thanks anyway! :)
Many of the background scripts have been changed for this project from RPG Maker XP's default/stock scripts. This means that the way the engine works has actually changed.
RMXP comes with a script editor to change the way the engine works, so that's not illegal. No modifications have been made to any EXE files. As you said, that would be illegal.
Everything's in the Manual. Double-click on the desktop icon and a menu should appear. One of the options is to view the Manual.
To attack you either press the "G" key or click the left mouse button. There are only a few characters you can fight in v0.20 (bandits and some enemies during quests) but there will be lots more in v0.30.
HAHA!!! LOL! Sadly not... although... that give me an idea for a potion!
How do you mean?
I got all the graphics from legitimate sources and I've credited all the authors.
You'll just have to play and find out! ;)
Thanks! Took an age to write, but I think it's worth it.
I'm glad you like it! :D
There will be factions in the game, but joinable factions are a long way off. They *may* be introduced in v0.40, but that's not really decided yet.
In the current release, there are two factions; Friends & Enemies.
There may be classes at some point, but we're still thinking about how to implement them without restricting the player too much in what they can do.
So rest assured that there will eventually be proper factions in the game, but we're concentrating on other things right now.
The next release will introduce a number of new features including books, magic, projectile weapons, potions, a crime system and a cheat system.
We are also going to be including three new main quests, ten new side quests and every building in an occupied settlement (i.e. Willenke and Wellenstadt at the moment) will be enterable.
Although it's still a month or more away, I'm really excited about releasing the next version of the game!
Ok, the new version is out. Any opinions?
If terra0nova has the graphics, then chances are he has already bought the engine. The graphics come packaged with the engine, which means he has bought the graphics. The license grants the user of the engine permission to use the graphics, and even release games commercially with those graphics if they wish.
Anyway, even if he isn't licensed to use the graphics, the fact that people have noticed where they come from is good publicity for Enterbrain.
Ooo! I thought I recognised the graphics!
Just out of curiosity, did you make the maps using RPG Maker XP or your own engine?
Good luck with Aero Empires. It looks like it's going to be amazing!
No, it's Single Player. The house system will eventually be developed to be a bit like the house system in Oblivion. It's a place where you can rest and store items.
Thanks guys! :D
