Source mapper, musician, and indie developer.
I know, right? He's even got the delaying part down pat!
Oh, okay! I typically link "assets" with textures, models, etc. Thanks for the clarification!
Here's a question I asked about the contest on PlanetPhillip.com, I thought I'd post here as well as the article is about 3 weeks old on that website:
"When you say that no Portal assets may be used, does this mean we can’t use any models from the game? I’d like to use the portal gun pedestal, as well as doors and the such. Lots of Portal models were used in BP!"
Please, in future maps, don't use ladders in timed puzzles. They are incredibly finicky, and just ends up being frustrating.
Download 7zip, it can extract .7z files. They're really compact, that's why they were used. :P
Prop_portal and triggers.
I laughed so hard at what this post implies, which is that the map maker can't even upload a po_edit "map" correctly.
po_edit is good for noobs. Mods are not.
By the way, if you're going to carve out octagons from the ceiling to make box droppers, I would recommend you clip out the square the octagon is being carved from, so that the carving doesn't send percussive brush edges through the rest of the brush, so that you can resize the brush later.
BUG: In the moving room (the one with the waving floor) you can jump and grab the portal gun without "momentum-ing."
Other than that, and the fact that I didn't hear Ben at all, this was excellent.
That's a bug in the Portal engine itself, can't be fixed.
Got it working. Very nice! Challenging yet possible.
When you look at the title in the summary, it looks like "Lollipop donuts ate my flying slippers."
The game refuses to let me unlock anything past Space Stage 3. Is the rest of the game just not finished, or what?
When I grow up, I wanna work for N/A!
I agree with everything in this review except the score. The entire mod was well done, but the whole thing was just finger-numbingly impossible without several retries. Yes, this game was aimed at a hard-core audience, but does that really give the level designers an excuse to throw everything at you at once in hopes that you'll catch it all? If I make hard levels in a game, I make it obvious what you need to do so you CAN do it. It's hard to do something if you don't know what it is you're even supposed to do! I'd write my own review, but I can't be bothered to rewrite this paragraph and extend it with silly metaphors.
When I play this mod, I get a brief view of the menu screen which then dies and gives me this error:
SetupArrayProps_R: array prop '(null)' is at index zero.
Help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Guys, those are the robots you can co-op with if you're lonely.
Well, I figured I'm not going to make the deadline. This is my first real experience with Luascripting as well, so it's going to turn out as carp. The main "twist" I'll add (if it ever gets done) is the strange maps, such as maps were you have a wall you shoot the barrels over, maps that are free-range (no boundaries), and maps that make it incredibly strange. Unfortunately, I've got another project on my hands, so this prolly won't get finished for the contest.
The upper legs look a tiny bit fat, but that's the only problem I see with it. You're a much better artist than I am :P
Anyhow, nice looking, although that is a HUGE pileup.
Portal is rated Teen.
Your level designer(s) seem to be obsessed with glass walls. There's nothing bad with this, but I thought I'd just point it out. :P
That guy in the middle looks like he's doing a little jig.
