Interesting, the rogue class was intended to take on this role but we are focusing on the core 4 classes that will release for alpha and beta. In the future we hope to implement several new classes but if we draw the focus too thin then the balancing may be off. Thanks for the suggestion.

Actually, we have thought of some form of that. Having ways of getting to specific dungeons (trap-doors) from within a player's house. Haven't thought of an actual train compartment as a player housing though, that's an interesting idea!
The trains in the open city scenes will be able to transport players to other parts of the city (a.k.a other scenes) btu we can always think of this idea. Quite interesting.

“An indie is someone who designs apps with total freedom both financially and creatively and is motivated by passion, not money." That is the definition from Doug Davies. Wikipedia defines "an indie dev shop as one that is not owned by a publisher, thus retaining control of their development pipeline. They may choose to work with a publisher, or self publish, and still remain independent."Greg Holsclaw's definition for indie studio: "An indie studio is a group of indie developers who design apps with total freedom both financially and creatively and are motivated by passion." So, different people have different opinions and definitions, the key is freedom, control and vision/passion. We all have them, so, it's just a matter of understanding of Indie.:)

No need to worry about that, collision should be fairly realistic (as much as games go). You can get close enough to walls without melting into them, and step over debris and other small objects without them stopping you as a wall would. Of course, some of this is still up for Beta testing, so if any odd issues pop up, we'll be sure to work on fixing them before release. :) Feel free to drop me a line if you have any further questions!

We actually had considered different UIs for the Health/Steam displays, but they either looked out of place, weren't visible enough during crucial combat situations, or simply weren't that intuitive, so we ended up with these, for now, for familiarity's sake, as most gamers can recognize what those are for without needing to be told. Changes to this in the future? Always a possibility, but that kind of polish would be something we'd put more focus on once we're nearer to full release (we're still in pre-Beta now); if you have suggestions, though, we're always open to ideas. :P

Actually, when we displayed an early version of the game at GDC China in November, a Unity representative walked by and asked which engine we were using... his jaw dropped when we told him it was Unity. Apparently, we are one of the few that are attempting to create such a serious project with the Unity 3D engine... and a web-game! Big Point had Battlestar Galactica but we're just a small indie team here!

In regards to your question about "holding up", yes it is. Do we need to come up with a lot of tools and additions ourselves? Yes. We started using Unity even before there was a Windows version so the learning curve was high and the amount of options that were provided were limited. Throughout the development we've had to innovate new ways of getting it done so there are limitations but we've worked around them. We can't count the times we've spent 5-6 months creating an addition then Unity releases a newer version that includes the same, but better, function!

If you'd like to see a mini-preview test project please check out this week's Dev. Journal. Cityofsteam.com

we've placed a project displaying what is capable and it uses a lot of the resources directly from the game.

In short, limitations but they can be overcome but the multi-platform publishing, the cost, and other advantages have made it worth it. Is the project ambitious? VERY.

If you have any further questions feel free to ask or join us on our forums!
