doesn't matter how fast bullets travel, it depends on mass. it's not going to knock your helmet off if it is strapped, and it is almost always strapped on in the german army.
it only makes sense if only a few of the characters cna have their helmets unstrapped, but then it'll only come off when they fall down and it comes loose. a bullet doesn't carry enough force to knock it off.

needs more color variance. vibrancy, basically. we have this concept of battlefields being gloomy due to video games and movies which portray it as such, and the fact that color photography really didn't develop back then. well..a battlefield is as colorful as any other place. you need to reflect that. urine colored filter is for movies trying to look "old" and gloomy, not for games. remember, fps=first person shooter, not first person camera strapped to the head, with post process effect jammed up his *** shooter.

btw, you guys look like you're making high poly ships as concepts? you know there's a mod that adds parallax mapping, specularity, and normal mapping to the game. the latest version is included in in the babylon 5 mod files. you could possible bake higher quality normal maps using those hi poly models.
i don't know if it's intentional on your part, but a lot of the ships look too "grainy", it's nice for that battle scarred look, after all, micro space debris brushing against the hull all the time tends to ablate it.
i think the problem is the outdated textures. i'm guessing they're real low resolution? and this the normal map you generated from them are also very low res, this means a lot of features aren't slick or angular enough.
imo, thta's very important for scale. these are massize ships, having them all dinged up looking makes them appear more like space capsules for 3 people.
has potential to be deadspace and system shock combined, but the "fast paced" serious sam style action is killing it.
