Hey there - we're interested in a mac port - will depend on how well the PC sales go - if we can afford it...
It's so badly broken right now it's kind of unlikely - to be honest, we'd be better off starting Korsakovia again from scratch than fixing it, and it's got some pretty deep-rooted design problems too. I think it's more likely we'd go for a completely new horror game at some point - we'll see how Esther does and work it from there....
I'd love to make a shooter and have early plans in the works. If it ever came to light, there's bits of COb I'd love to recycle...
Yeah - everything is a little delayed at the moment - bear with me! thanks, dan
Well.... if we make enough money to be able to afford to port it, we will look into it...
We're adding media to the game site: www.dear-esther.com - it's a gradual process but we'll put 'em up here as we go too!
awesome news! Glad we're not alone :)
No, not the original. Yes, the new version due summer 2011. Check out www.indiedb.com/games/dear-esther site for more details and updates.
Hi all,
So as you all know by now, Dear Esther is going indie for the remake. What we're doing is now splitting the two sites off from one another. The ModDB site will remain up but focused on the original mod version, so we won't be posting to it apart from to point out new updates are available. We'll now be shifting all news about the remake over to the IndieDB site, and all media and updates will happen over there.
You'll still be able to get the original version over on ModDB, it just saves us having to update two sites at the same time.
Everything will also be posted up on the project website - www.dear-esther.com
Finally, just a reminder that we're on Podcast17 this week:
Cheers, Dan
Just to re-iterate - this Desura install is for the original mod, not the remake - just in case there's any confusion - dan
Just to re-iterate - this is an install for THE ORIGINAL mod, not the new version -dan
This is the original guys, sorry for the confusion. I've no idea why all of the new media is on it, probably just gets carried over, like you said. Will try and get this sorted asap.
- Rob
If you want to rephrase it, I'll happily answer it. It's worth looking at Rob's new devblog post first, and checking out Podcast17 as we may well be answering questions about the process of going commercial. Dan
There will be closed captions - we're currently assembling a list of languages and will hopefully confirm those at the beginning of March - dan
Forums are now up over at our other site: Dear-esther.com
The gameplay remains really simple - it's an exploration thing. There are many new details that expand on the story and new areas to explore.
I'd wait if you can - although the game has evolved, the central spine of the story is the same (of course), and the overall asset quality will be much higher.... Dan
I'm going to delete any further comments which either contain racist, sexist, homophobic or other bigoted terms in them, or use the term 'rape'. We will happily chat and discuss with people about the process of going commercial (and see the Podcast17 interview this weekend) but these are not acceptable and I'm not going to tolerate them. If you think being asked to pay for a computer game is like 'rape' you need to get some perspective. Dan
It will be available on Steam - is that what you meant? Dan
The remake site has been moved across to IndieDB: Indiedb.com
You can also find us at www.dear-esther.com
We'll keep this site up for the 2007-2009 original mod, and will link to news, etc, but all further updates will happen over on the new sites. Cheers, Dan
No worries guys, sorry I didnt do it sooner, If you have any problems with it just let me know! :) -Rob
If we can, yeah, I think we'd both really like to explore putting a commentary in - dan

Just noticed the original is offline, sorry I only just noticed that, which is my fault, it will be back up again tomorrow! -Rob
Hi Stumpy, Rob here, although I cant give you any exact figure just yet, we're hoping to aim somewhere just below that figure, basically no more than your average theatre ticket. Im going to work on moving us over to indieDB sometime over the weekend. We weren't expecting to announce it today but some sites released the news early and we were caught a little unprepared (I'll be working on spurcing up the main wesite also)
Thanks for your support! :)
Im hoping to get well over an hour's gameplay in there with all the new exploration, content and audio, maybe even more, and with every playthrough being unique Im hoping it will make the replayability all the more rewarding. Dont worry we wont be charging a lot, and I will do everything I can to make sure every penny you spend is worth it. - Rob

thechineseroom is the name of a development research project I run at the University of Portsmouth, UK. We're interested in first person gaming - particularly, using mods to explore questions about gaming that you can't answer by just analysing commercial releases or theorising about them.
