I'm a full time Chemist (it's not my passion but it pays the bills) but I have modding to make me happy. I have bachelor's degrees in Biochemistry and Fine Art(the reason I like doing this type of mod):) I have always drawn(comics, video game art, and anime etc...) I love science fiction. I play a bit of guitar(blues and rock mostly). I practice+help teach Goju Karate as a 1st degree black belt. I like having hobbies. My latest hobby is modding. The Mass Effect Updated/Improved Textures Mod is my first mod. I was inspired by JeanLuc's work on ME2 and the handful of ME1 textures he did. I wanted to give ME1 the graphics it deserves and seeing his work showed me it was more than possible. I am new to modding and very much still learning, open to suggestions/constructive criticism. I also will tackle requests to the best of my ability. I am happy to be a part of and share my work with the modding community :)

Saltisgood has released a bunch of .mod installers for ME3 and the newest .mods are being done by Ottemis for ME3, very nice textures but you'll need to use MEExplorer to install them.

Social.bioware.com

Unfortunately MEExplorer doesn't fully support texture replacement in ME2 yet, we are still waiting.

The mod doesn't install lua5.1.dll if your dlc contained it it's most likely a virus, otherwise it's corrupt on your HDD in your windows system 32 directory

Yeah I have the russification patch to work with, the problem is mass effect stores the textures and subtitles together so when I installed from my version (English) it also replaces the subtitles which was unintended. I tried re-installing the russification after the mod but it didn't fix the subtitles, my guess is it will not fully install because the mod changes the file sizes that the installer may be looking for so it doesn't replace the appropriate files because it cannot find them. I am working on the issue but if anyone else want to help feel free, because my expertise so to speak is in textures not manipulating subtitles and installer programs (russification). My guess is that if we can change a few targets in the Russification patch we can fix the issue.

Yeah but I want to just use MEExplorer to fix ME2 like ME1 but right now there is little support for it :(. I'll let you know when I get around to making a .tpf but I am very busy with ME1 so it may take a bit. In the mean time you can make one yourself if you don't feel like waiting, log my textures in ME1 then log the ME2 textures and then do a little renaming of my textures to match ME2 names and create a def file for texmod and generate the tpf. There are many tutorials out there, Google is your friend :)

AMD glitch, look in the new version of the readme I added because everyone assumes it's the mod, but it's the game and newer AMD CPU's. It happens modded or unmodded.

I take it you figured it out , but Nvidia control panel SSAA or you can use Nvidia inspector to force SGSSAA which really makes the image amazing...and kills performance lol.

No problem glad to help, I am working on a few things for a new version some enhancements, fixing the eye glow people complain about and some new textures, but I think I found why the installer isn't overwriting files for people and it should be fixed in the next version.

looks like a partial install: check your "CookedPC" folder after installing the mod it should be 20.0 GB anything less means you will have missing textures (black textures), usually this happens as a result of not running the installer as administrator, using a previously modded Mass Effect as a base install, or if your game folder is set to read only. If you can not get the install to the full 20.0 GB there is a work around. Point the installer to a new folder, run it, and then copy/cut and paste both folders, should be ~13.25GB, into your Mass Effect folder.

This is not the mod it happens on modded or un-modded Mass Effect........I should add it to the readme, this is a result of AMD processors and the game itself, there are workarounds online just Google Mass Effect 1 Noveria black characters bug.

link to the bug way before this mod existed: Social.bioware.com

video of the issue on un-modded game: Youtube.com

There will eventually be links, guest links are less reliable but will eventually work, you could sign up to Moddb its free and there's no catch, you'll then have access to more mirrors.

Probably bad install see troubleshooting section a few posts below. Also could be bad bioengine.ini tweaks. Delete the bioengine.ini and run the game, this will create a new one and see if you still have crashes, if you do its most likely a bad install.

unfortunately the game's file structure doesn't work that way, the face textures are in 100's of files bundled in with all of the other textures, a real pain. You have to use MEExplorer and find the freckled face texture and replace with a copy from either my old TexMod version which is similar to vanilla, or an up-scaled vanilla, make sure to upscale it to 2048x2048 or the replacement will not work. Here is a post explaining how to do this: Social.bioware.com

It is a pain and I can't provide tech support for MEExplorer go here for that: Me3explorer.freeforums.org

good luck sorry the game is so mod unfriendly and welcome to my world :)

That is very likely, I am working on a Russian patch but I am waiting on talk implementation in MEExplorer before I can simply install, otherwise I have to make the whole mod Russian and upload another 9 files...I would like to avoid that and make a patch instead, but I will update when I have more info.

Black textures are a result of incomplete install here is the troubleshooting section below follow the workaround install mentioned.

Troubleshooting:

My shadows on faces are blocky I don't like it:
Set shadowdepthbias to 0.03 to turn down the facial shadows. Many people prefer this look, where as I like the extra shadows cast by 0.006 even if they are a bit funny looking, AO usually blend them well enough to mask the majority of the issues.

Textures aren't showing up and or I'm getting crashes:
to avoid this install the mod as an administrator and install it on a vanilla un-modded Mass Effect to avoid conflicts.

If you still have issues apply LAA to MassEffect.exe eventhough I have monitored the RAM usage at 1.3GB I need to apply LAA to get the mod not to crash on my surface pro. (this is most likely due to integrated Vram from the Intel HD 4000 on the Intel i5 Chipset). So if you have integrated graphics apply LAA to MassEffect.exe and you should be all set.

Also check your "CookedPC" folder after installing the mod it should be 20.0 GB anything less means you will have missing textures, usually this happens as a result of not running the installer as administrator or using a previously modded Mass Effet as a base install. If you can not get the install to the full 20.0 GB there is a work around. Point the installer to a new folder, run it, and then copy/cut and paste both folders, should be ~13.25GB, into your Mass Effect folder.

If you still have problems post them here and we will work them out, this is a brand new version of the mod in both textures and form so we are all learning, with the infinite number of hardware configurations out there we are bound to need to fix a few things to get it running on those configurations.

you will have errors I can guarantee you glitches and or crashes. re-download the 2nd part and don't skip the disk the error message shouldn't come up if all files are valid. The final cookedpc folder need to be at least 20.0GB for the mod to work as it should. Good luck let me know if you need more help.
