I'm a full time Chemist (it's not my passion but it pays the bills) but I have modding to make me happy. I have bachelor's degrees in Biochemistry and Fine Art(the reason I like doing this type of mod):) I have always drawn(comics, video game art, and anime etc...) I love science fiction. I play a bit of guitar(blues and rock mostly). I practice+help teach Goju Karate as a 1st degree black belt. I like having hobbies. My latest hobby is modding. The Mass Effect Updated/Improved Textures Mod is my first mod. I was inspired by JeanLuc's work on ME2 and the handful of ME1 textures he did. I wanted to give ME1 the graphics it deserves and seeing his work showed me it was more than possible. I am new to modding and very much still learning, open to suggestions/constructive criticism. I also will tackle requests to the best of my ability. I am happy to be a part of and share my work with the modding community :)

Probably bad install see troubleshooting section a few posts below. Also could be bad bioengine.ini tweaks. Delete the bioengine.ini and run the game, this will create a new one and see if you still have crashes, if you do its most likely a bad install.

Still working on it, it will take some time as the game stores the subtitles in with the textures so i have to edit over 1000 files...:P

unfortunately the game's file structure doesn't work that way, the face textures are in 100's of files bundled in with all of the other textures, a real pain. You have to use MEExplorer and find the freckled face texture and replace with a copy from either my old TexMod version which is similar to vanilla, or an up-scaled vanilla, make sure to upscale it to 2048x2048 or the replacement will not work. Here is a post explaining how to do this: Social.bioware.com

It is a pain and I can't provide tech support for MEExplorer go here for that: Me3explorer.freeforums.org

good luck sorry the game is so mod unfriendly and welcome to my world :)

That is very likely, I am working on a Russian patch but I am waiting on talk implementation in MEExplorer before I can simply install, otherwise I have to make the whole mod Russian and upload another 9 files...I would like to avoid that and make a patch instead, but I will update when I have more info.

Black textures are a result of incomplete install here is the troubleshooting section below follow the workaround install mentioned.

Troubleshooting:

My shadows on faces are blocky I don't like it:
Set shadowdepthbias to 0.03 to turn down the facial shadows. Many people prefer this look, where as I like the extra shadows cast by 0.006 even if they are a bit funny looking, AO usually blend them well enough to mask the majority of the issues.

Textures aren't showing up and or I'm getting crashes:
to avoid this install the mod as an administrator and install it on a vanilla un-modded Mass Effect to avoid conflicts.

If you still have issues apply LAA to MassEffect.exe eventhough I have monitored the RAM usage at 1.3GB I need to apply LAA to get the mod not to crash on my surface pro. (this is most likely due to integrated Vram from the Intel HD 4000 on the Intel i5 Chipset). So if you have integrated graphics apply LAA to MassEffect.exe and you should be all set.

Also check your "CookedPC" folder after installing the mod it should be 20.0 GB anything less means you will have missing textures, usually this happens as a result of not running the installer as administrator or using a previously modded Mass Effet as a base install. If you can not get the install to the full 20.0 GB there is a work around. Point the installer to a new folder, run it, and then copy/cut and paste both folders, should be ~13.25GB, into your Mass Effect folder.

If you still have problems post them here and we will work them out, this is a brand new version of the mod in both textures and form so we are all learning, with the infinite number of hardware configurations out there we are bound to need to fix a few things to get it running on those configurations.

Actually I was thinking about Resident Evil 4 PC recently. I love the game and there is a texture mod to get the gamecube textures rather than PS2 and if you use ENB series injector it can look nice but some true HD textures might make it pretty amazing...but that is ways away yet I have to finish the ME1 mod and port compatible textures to 2 and 3 first.

Do you have the steam version I know there was an extreme low res issue for steam users a while back the image links are dead though but I'm pretty sure that is what you are talking about and the bioengine.ini tweaks help along with using version 1.02 or later.

you will have errors I can guarantee you glitches and or crashes. re-download the 2nd part and don't skip the disk the error message shouldn't come up if all files are valid. The final cookedpc folder need to be at least 20.0GB for the mod to work as it should. Good luck let me know if you need more help.

Install bring down the sky. I'm pretty sure this is generated by the MassEffect.exe which I have not modded, provided or replaced. So installing/reinstalling bdts should get you access, basically your MassEffect.exe needs to be up to version1.2xxxx for the dlc to work, what you are seeing is DRM.

Turn shadowdepthbias to 0.03 to restore Bioware value. The crash after saving Tali could be a million things, I recommend trying everything in the troubleshooting section of the readme. After you have done that if you still have the problem please let me know and we'll work it form there.

Thank you, and that would be nice but the consoles cannot handle this mod, they have nowhere near enough VRAM that's why the game looked so rough to begin with, it was designed for the consoles and the arching tech used at the time it was released. Back then there were still a lot of people using 256MB graphics cards. Now we have 6 GB lol technology though the average user probably has a 1GB vid card its still 4x the VRAM in the consoles.

hmmm...if you have applied LAA I have no clue I guess I'll need more details, system specs etc...also the size of your biogame file. Most crashes have been from 2 reasons LAA needed and the installer for random infuriating reasons didn't install all of the files.

Try LAA or anything else n the troubleshooting section that may help...but this is the first time I've heard of DX crashes. LAA will address it if it's RAM related
