Report RSS Game Dev Skills - Heads Up Display

Posted by on

I've been playing around with the heads up display lately for CuteRobo.

In a brief moment of weakness I tried out this idea;

CuteRobo - Basic HUD Test - Indie DB

Which in retrospect doesn't work for a plat-former and makes the user feel obstructed and a bit claustrophobic.

So I have since done away with the border and gone with text overlay the game window much the same way as was done in Mario/Sonic etc.

I've also since formatted the seconds counter to HH:MM:SS format. That was always the intended format to display the counter in however I wasn't sure what the best way to do it in Blender was and was trying to avoid using Python libraries outside of Blender.

Will upload a video of it soon.
